Audio / Kacey Musgraves, who is making her way up the country charts with "Rainbow," talks about the story behind her song “Space Cowboy.”

Kacey Musgraves (Space Cowboy inspiration) OC: …include that. 1:20
“The inspiration for ‘Space Cowboy’ was actually triggered by something that my horseback riding teacher, Lori, said to me one day. We were out at the arena and we were watching this stallion go totally crazy in the arena just galloping from one end to the other, just kind of losing its mind and being really reckless and really powerful. I watched it come charging toward me, and I was standing on the other side of the gate, and Lori was screaming at me, ‘Back up, back up! Move out of the way!’ And I really didn’t think anything of it. I said, ‘I’m on the other side of the gate. The gate’s closed. It doesn’t matter.’ She said, ‘Girl-when they wanna go, they’re gonna go. There ain’t no sense in closing the gate.’ That made a big impression on me and I wrote it down, and then ‘Space Cowboy’ came a couple of days later when I wrote it with Shane McAnally and Luke Laird. It just seemed to kind of apply itself in a metaphorical sense to a narrative that I’ve found myself in many times in my life. It’s a narrative that a lot of people I know can relate to. So, this song was very important song for me to include on the album, because though I am in a really happy place now, it’s not always been that way and it was important for me to include that.”

Audio / Luke Bryan describes what makes him country.

    Download

Luke Bryan (what makes him country) OC: …small town. :37
“I think that what makes me country is where I was raised — Leesburg, Georgia — how I was brought up saying ‘Yes sir,’ ‘No sir,’ ‘Yes, ma’am,’ ‘No, ma’am,’ hopefully with manners and raised with a work ethic and raised in the outdoors fishing and hunting and playing sports. But yeah, I would say definitely it starts with my small-town upbringing and how we were raised; church on Sundays as much as we could. But just enjoying life and living life in a small town.”

  • DIERKS BENTLEY SET TO HOST FOURTH ANNUAL CMA FOUNDATION MUSIC TEACHERS OF EXCELLENCE AWARDS.

The CMA Foundation, a national music education nonprofit and the philanthropic arm of the Country Music Association, will hold its fourth annual Music Teachers of Excellence Awards April 30th in Nashville and will be hosted by three-time CMA Awards winner Dierks Bentley.

The invite-only event will honor 10 music educators from districts across the state of Tennessee, 10 from Metro Nashville Public Schools and 10 from across the United States. Award recipients are selected because of their dedication to bringing a high-quality music program to their students and the impact they’ve had on their school community through music. To date, the CMA Foundation has invested over $575,000 to ensure music educators have the support and funding needed to create a thriving program within their school and community.

“These teachers have gone above and beyond in their classrooms to really bring music to life and their commitment and determination has not gone unnoticed,” said Dierks. “As a parent I have seen first-hand the importance of music in my children’s lives and its importance in school programs. Every child deserves the chance to feel the power of music and it’s not possible without supporting these teachers.”

Dierks co-wrote 10 of the 13 tracks on his current album The Mountain (Capitol Records Nashville), including his poignant new single “Living,” which follows two back-to-back No. 1s: “Woman, Amen” and “Burning Man.” The Mountain earned Bentley the highest debut sales of his career and became his seventh chart-topping album. • DIERKS BENTLEY ANNOUNCES THE LINE-UP FOR HIS SECOND ANNUAL SEVEN PEAKS FESTIVAL.

Dierks Bentley announced the lineup of artists heading for the heart-stopping mountain views of Buena Vista, CO this Labor Day Weekend (Aug 30 – Sept 1), for the second-annual Seven Peaks Music Festival. Acts hand-picked by Dierks will include Luke Bryan, Maren Morris, Jon Pardi, Mitchell Tenpenny, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Ryan Hurd, Steep Canyon Rangers, The War and Treaty, Tenille Townes and Caylee Hammack. In addition, Friday’s HOT COUNTRY NIGHT, which was an instant highlight in the festival’s inaugural year, will host Travis Tritt, Tracy Lawrence, Diamond Rio and Deana Carter with a special performance by Bentley’s own Hot Country Knights. With other stages to be announced in the coming weeks, passes will go on sale March 15th at 10am MT at sevenpeaksfestival.com.

Established in 2018, fans traveled from 49 states and as far as Australia for the inaugural Seven Peaks Music Festival. The three-day, two-stage adventure instantly captured the hearts and attention of fans and artists for the festival’s ethereal, mountainous setting, as well as the unique and thoughtful lineup. With Forbes noting “what sets the festival apart is its location,” as Rolling Stone praised the “community-first, play-every-set take on a country festival,” Seven Peaks is returning for a second year as it continues to showcase “authenticity in every component” (PEOPLE). In addition to the breathtaking setting and first-class lineup, fans can expect multiple fringe activities across the weekend including the return of the Somewhere On A Beach Party and Late Night At Whiskey Row, with AYDAMN spinning all the fan-favorites. ATV Tours, inflatable kayaking, whitewater rafting and more will also be available.

“I am so happy and grateful we get to come back to Buena Vista for the second Seven Peaks Music Festival,” said Dierks. “And I know I speak for everyone that has worked so hard to make this festival a reality when I say that. Even with the huge success of the first year, no one is taking anything for granted. If anything, we are all working harder than ever to make sure this year meets and exceeds the expectations of our returning ‘Peakers’ and completely blow away our first-time festival goers.”

“What I love about Seven Peaks is that this festival felt special from the beginning,” said Brian O’Connell, President of Country Touring at Live Nation. “It also instantly felt like we were all in this together to build something with longevity, from the fans out in the campgrounds, to the artists and teams working together backstage. Working with Dierks and his team, it is a truly collaborative partnership and there’s a lot of respect there. I’m so ready for us to continue to grow this festival, the mountains are calling!”

Dierks Bentley (Seven Peaks 2nd year lineup) OC: …a lot of fun. 1:21
“So, this year, what makes our festival unique I think is, I love three types of music. I love commercial country music, which I do, I love ‘90s country music, and I love the bluegrass, acoustic, red-dirt kind of scene, and I hate to toss it all into one thing, that different side. So, we start off with ‘90s country night, and this year, Deana Carter is starting off. ‘Strawberry Wine’ had a big influence on my life and I love that song. I remember exactly where I was the first time I heard it. Tracy Lawrence is going to be there, unbelievable. Diamond Rio and Travis Tritt. My band and I will be on the side of the stage for every one of those performances, like leaning all the way in. And of course, the Hot Country Knights are headlining because we get to, it’s my festival. I don’t know how we’re going to go on after Travis Tritt, hopefully he will have left by then or won’t be watching, because I don’t know if we can do our ‘90s thing with these guys watching us. Although last year, Sawyer Brown, they loved it. They wore Hot Country Knights T-shirts on their set. And the next night, Saturday night, is headlined by Luke Bryan, which is great. And Maren Morris, which we’ve collaborated a bunch together and I love her to death. Mitchell Tenpenny’s there, Ryan Hurd, and a new artist Caylee Hammack who I’m just a huge fan of. And then Sunday it’s us with Jon Pardi, Tenille Townes. She’s like my favorite singer at all right now. She’s so good and such a great hang. Nitty Gritty Dirt Band which’ll be killer.. And then we have a whole another Whiskey Row stage, which is gonna be another… it’s all for me, really. It’s just people I love listening to. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

  • DIERKS BENTLEY “LEFT IT ALL ON STAGE” DURING HIS SOLD-OUT 2019 BURNING MAN TOUR STOP AT NASHVILLE’S BRIDGESTONE ARENA ON FRIDAY.

Dierks Bentley rattled Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Friday (February 22nd) during his sold-out hometown stop on the 2019 BURNING MAN TOUR in partnership with 5-hour ENERGY®. He “kept the audience on its feet” (Billboard) for more than four hours with stacked fan-favorite hits and new music off his critically-acclaimed album THE MOUNTAIN, including his new single “Living.”

Featuring direct support from Jon Pardi and Tenille Townes, this tour “is one not to forget” (Music Row) as “Country music’s most endearing and enduring superstars” (The Tennesseean) filled his set list with show-stopping moments and special guests including Miranda Lambert, Thomas Rhett, Keith Urban and Sawyer Brown’s Mark Miller.

“Any questions as to his top-tier acclaim — and why he deserves to be included in any ‘Entertainer of the Year’ conversations — were erased with Friday’s performance. Many Country artists throw around the word ‘real’ to describe their music, but Bentley doesn’t have to preach it; rather, he manifests it with his ultra-personal material.” – Rolling Stone

“He’s dedicated to giving fans the best performance possible. He makes working an arena look effortless….the result was Bentley carried the show with his songs, friends and familiar ease that makes fans feel like they’re all good buddies.”  – The Tennessean

“A night of surprises, heartfelt ballads and sing-along anthems, Bentley’s headlining show further cemented his future ‘Entertainer of the Year’ status.” – Billboard

Bentley’s 90s cover band Hot Country Knights set the tone for the night as they brought out Thomas Rhett incognito as cousin “Daryle” who sang father Rhett Akins’ hit “That Ain’t My Truck,” while Mark Miller from Sawyer Brown later joined for “Some Girls Do.” Starting to feel like a family affair, Bentley’s alter-ego “Doug” was joined by his daughter Jordan, “Lil Doug,” as they serenaded the crowd.

When it came to his headlining set “Bentley left it all on the stage” (Taste of Country) and “cement[ed] his A-list status” (Rolling Stone) by delivering deafening sing-alongs and highlights that included a re-introduction to Townes on “Different for Girls” along with a special rendition of “Travelin’ Light” with his oldest daughter Evie. “Making for a true ‘only in Nashville’ moment” (Billboard), Bentley welcomed Urban for a rollicking collaboration on the title-track to his recent critically-acclaimed album before Lambert appeared for a medley of classic Country hits including Hank Williams’ “Your Cheatin’ Heart,” Merle Haggard’s “The Bottle Let Me Down,” Loretta Lynn’s “Blue Kentucky Girl” and Dixie Chicks’ “Cowboy Take Me Away.” Known as “a night of great music, real fan connection and a lot of fun” (Music Row), Bentley closed the show by parlaying through the crowd and out the front door to keep the party going to lower Broadway at his bar, Whiskey Row.

Bentley continues to be a dominant voice for the genre with over 8.6 billion overall digital streams. Reaching a new creative high while “making music designed to challenge” (New York Times), Bentley co-wrote 10 of 13 tracks on his current album THE MOUNTAIN (Capitol Records Nashville), which earned him the highest debut sales of his career and became his seventh chart-topping album. Bentley has amassed 18 career No. Ones, billions of digital streams, countless nominations from the ACMs, CMAs, Billboard Music Awards and more, while also earning 14 GRAMMY  nominations. His BURNING MAN TOUR picks back up Thursday (2/28) in the Midwest. For more information and a full list of tour dates, visit www.dierks.com.

  • ACM AWARDS NOMINATIONS HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED, AND CHRIS STAPLETON IS LEADING THE LIST.

The nominations for this year’s ACM Awards have been announced and the reigning Male Artist of the Year Chris Stapleton leads the list (ties with Dan + Shay) with six nods, including Entertainer of the Year. He is also nominated twice, as both artist and producer, for Album of the Year for From A Room: Volume 2, which he won last year for From A Room: Volume 1. Plus, he’s nominated for Song of the Year twice, as both artist and songwriter, for “Broken Halos.” He’s also up for Male Artist of the Year. He’s won numerous awards over the past few years, and while he’s grateful for every single trophy he takes home, he has a special affinity for the Album categories.

“They are all significant and if you get one award for anything it’s a treat. But any of the awards that awarded the album, the album awards, because I really wanted to make an album that was good,” says Chris. “I wanted that to be a thing, again, more than I wanted it to be, ‘Well here’s the single and eight other songs.’ So, the album awards for me were important in that we did our job in a good way, you know. Just I have such an affinity for albums that I don’t know if I want those more or if they mean more, but they are all meaningful.”

Kacey Musgraves earned five nominations in three categories, including a nod for Female Artist of the Year. Additionally, she is nominated in the Album of the Year Category twice, as both artist and producer, for Golden Hour, as well as in the Song of the Year category twice, as both artist and songwriter, for “Space Cowboy.” Kacey, who took home four Grammy Awards a couple of weeks ago, most recently won an ACM in 2016 in the Video of the Year category for “Forever Country” and previously won in the Album of the Year category in 2013 for Same Trailer Different Park.

Dierks Bentley received four nominations, including his fourth nod for Album of the Year for The Mountain. Dierks is also nominated for “Burning Man” (featuring Brothers Osborne) in both the Music Event of the Year category and Video of the Year category. He is also nominated for Male Artist of the Year. If he were to win for Video of the Year this year, it would mark his third win in this category.

Reigning Duo of the Year and Video of the Year winners, Brothers Osborne earned four nominations in three categories, including a nod for Duo of the Year. They are also nominated for Music Event of the Year for “Burning Man” with Dierks Bentley. Additionally, Brothers Osborne are nominated twice in the Video of the Year category for songs “Shoot Me Straight” and “Burning Man.” The guys tweeted, “Unreal. Beyond grateful. Love y’all.”

Luke Bryan has won a handful of ACM Awards over his career, including the New Artist of the Year Award in 2010 and following it up with two Entertainer Awards just a few years later. He tell us he is honored to be included in both the Entertainer and the Single of the Year categories. “The opportunity to go to the ACMs with two nominations – Entertainer of the Year and Single of the Year – is just a huge honor for me. When I was able to record ‘Most People Are Good,’ I just felt like it was a really, really important song for the world to hear, an important song for me to have in my live show and to put out on radio, and to have it nominated is so rewarding for me and I’m so happy for the songwriters. And also, to have an Entertainer of the Year nomination is a huge honor for me. It’s something that I really, really work hard at every year to try to be a better Entertainer, a better singer and a better performer.”

Keith Urban has a pair of nominations at this year’s ACM Awards, including Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year. Keith picked up the CMA Award for Entertainer of the Year in November and says he is absolutely elated.”

Maddie & Tae are looking forward to being in Vegas for this year’s ACM Awards where they’re nominated for Duo of the Year.

    https://twitter.com/MaddieandTae/status/1098298938711592962

Chris Stapleton (affinity for albums) OC: …any one of them. :45
“They are all significant and if you get one award for anything it’s a treat. But any of the awards that awarded the album, the album awards, because I really wanted to make an album that was good. I wanted it, I wanted that to be a thing, again, more than I wanted it to be, ‘Well here’s the single and eight other songs.’ So, the album awards for me were important in that we did our job in a good way, you know. Just I have such an affinity for albums that I don’t know if I want those more or if they mean more, but they are all meaningful. They are all are things that one of them would feel like a career. One of them. Any one of them.”

“It’s like, ‘Wow!’ I look at that list of artists and there’s Luke Combs is probably gonna be a staple on there now, and Thomas Rhett’s gonna be in there every year and it’s gonna be harder, there’s less space. There’s only five guys in there, and to be one of those I think I appreciate it now more than ever. The album, obviously, is like the biggest nomination ever to get for anything. It’s one of the tangible results that you get to physically see from like putting time in the whole, the year and a half that goes into making that. I was very appreciative of it.”

Luke Bryan (ACM 2019 reaction) OC: …the ACMs. 1:05
It’s something that I really, really work hard at every year to try to be a better Entertainer, a better singer and a better performer. Nothing is better than going to the ACMs in Vegas, having a couple of nominations and just being out there and enjoying the party and being in the room and seeing what happens. I’m humbled by it, and it’s gonna be exciting the night of the ACMs.”

  • DIERKS BENTLEY DELIVERS ON A BIG THEME AND A UNIVERSAL MESSAGE WITH THE RELEASE OF “LIVING” FROM HIS TOP SELLING AND CRITICALLY-ACCLAIMED ALBUM THE MOUNTAIN.

Just weeks after earning his 18th career No. One, multi-Platinum singer/songwriter Dierks Bentley continues to reveal ambitious, complex sounds with lyrics reflective of his own personal journey over the last 18 months through the writing and the recording of his latest No. One album THE MOUNTAIN. With the release of “Living” to radio today, the “poignant” (Rolling Stone) track “offers up the album’s most easily likable vocal melody and some electric guitar crunch” (Paste) right on the heels of two back-to-back No. One hits from the record with “Woman, Amen” and “Burning Man.”

“The idea for this song started from being on the road and realizing how little ‘living’ we were actually doing out there,” said Bentley. “Whole days would go by where you never leave the bus and all you would see is the back parking lot of the arena. Going to Walgreens was a big deal! That is when the idea was born that there is a true difference between being alive and actually ‘living.’ This song is certainly about big moments in life and adventure…but it’s more about finding the beauty and that feeling in everyday moments. My goal for 2019 is to get outdoors and seek adventure whenever possible while also being fully present and living in even the ordinary moments…whether it be my son’s hockey practice and my girls’ theater performances or sitting around the table having dinner in catering with my band and crew.”

His introspective single “Living” not only serves as a standout on THE MOUNTAIN, but has also been dubbed as “a highlight of the show” (Country Aircheck) during his 2019 BURNING MAN TOUR, which will be on full display at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena this Friday (2/22). Critics alike agree as the track “provides lyrical content with depth beyond what’s normally on the charts” (Wide Open Country).

Pegged as “one of Country music’s most enviable brands, equal parts affability and authenticity” (Forbes), Bentley continues to be a dominant voice for the genre with over 8.6 billion overall digital streams. Reaching a new creative high while “making music designed to challenge” (New York Times), Bentley co-wrote 10 of his current album THE MOUNTAIN’s 13 tracks, which earned him the highest debut sales of his career and became his seventh chart-topping album. Known to deliver “the most thoughtful, complete collections in Country music” (USA Today) Bentley has amassed 18 career No. Ones, countless nominations from the ACMs, CMAs, Billboard Music Awards and more while also earning 14 GRAMMY  nominations. Bentley will make notable stops throughout the country on his 2019 BURNING MAN TOUR with special guests Jon Pardi, Tenille Townes and the Hot Country Knights. Dierks Bentley (Living) 1 OC: …recognize that. :58
” ‘Living’ started from the road, actually, and just the lack of living that you sometimes can do on a tour bus, right? You sit in the bus all day long, then you go play the show, and you sit in the bus all day long and nobody’s doing any living. We kind of have this funny thing we started with the band where if someone went to Walgreen’s, it was a really big deal. ‘Wow, man, you went out and lived some life today. You actually went to Walgreen’s. Wow!’ The bar for living is so low as a musician on the road, so we really made it a personal challenge for me and the band to kind of like do more stuff during the day on the road. It’s just a big ole ‘Live Life’ on the road, and that’s where the idea for the song started. I brought it out to Colorado when I was doing that songwriting retreat with everybody, and I wrote it with three other guys, and I just feel like it kind of became the core of the album, this whole theme of like gratitude and living life and making the most of every day. It’s not about the moments that, it’s not about skydiving or bullriding. It’s about just, it could be just watching your kid play hockey and being focused on that and not watching your iphone. It could be just appreciating that it’s sunny outside and taking a moment to recognize that.”

Audio / Dierks Bentley says his Seven Peaks Festival is really special for a variety of reasons.

Dierks Bentley (Seven Peaks 2nd year) 1 OC: …people. :45
“This festival is, the word special gets overused, but it is really special. One of the ways you can tell a festival is really good is when the artists want to come back and play it again. Last year, Miranda Lambert, she was supposed to fly off, but she actually stayed an extra day because she was having so much fun being there and everyone who was there last year wanted to come out again. You’re talking about year two. I can’t announce who’s coming, but the festival is early on, so I can’t pay some of these huge prices that some of these guys get, but I have some friends coming out [this year] that are actually doing it for a reduced rate because they just want to be there. They’re like, ‘Man! I’ll do whatever it takes. I just want to be there. It sounds like a vacation. It sounds so fun.’ So, that’s a big tell. The fact that we had fans from 49 states says a lot. This year is gonna be crazy attendance-wise, because I know every person is going to tell at least one or two people to come with ’em.”
