  • GEORGE STRAIT BRINGS HIS CODIGO TO ALL 50 STATES.

George Strait didn’t just write and record a song called “Código,” he’s also one of the investors in the company producing Código 1530 tequila. He didn’t mean to get into the liquor business, but when he was playing golf down in Mexico with a couple of friends, one brought a bottle of it to the course, where they sipped it. George said it was the best tequila he has ever tasted.

“The tequila itself, we started thinking about doing something – or at least I did – probably 10 years ago when I first tasted it down in Mexico,” recalls George. “My friend Feddy and Ron, those two guys that are involved in Código now. We were all out playing golf and Feddy brought this tequila out, well, it didn’t even have a name. Nobody had ever tried it. He said, ‘You guys gotta try this. It’s the best tequila that there is.’ So, we did, and then we started taking bottles home that weren’t marked or anything, and we were going, ‘How are we gonna get this into the States?’ ‘Cause I would get some of my friends to try it, and they loved it and we just thought it would be a great thing to have it in the States.”

He adds, “None of us were really looking to try to get in to a new business, honestly. I do what I do. Feddy was a very successful real estate guy in Cabo, and Ron was formerly the CEO, the guy at Crocs. And so, we just decided we wanted to do it, and here we are two-and-a-half years into the deal and we’re in all 50 states. So, I think that’s pretty good. It’s doing really well.”

George is making his way up the country charts with his latest song, “Every Little Honky Tonk Bar,” from his Billboard No. 1 album, Honky Tonk Time Machine.

You can catch George performing at Ohio Stadium in Columbus (Ohio) June 8th and Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass August 17th. For more information, visit www.GeorgeStrait.com.

  • GEORGE STRAIT HAS PLAYED EVERY LITTLE HONKY TONK BAR.

Early in George Strait’s career, he played every little honky tonk bar in Texas you could think of, and the Broken Spoke which is featured on the cover of his new album, Honky Tonk Time Machine, was one he played quite often. Whereas now he has fans standing in front of the stage and standing in their seats to watch him perform, if you didn’t have the crowd dancing in a honky tonk, you weren’t doing your job.

“All of those honky tonks have a really, really great feel to ‘em. I mean, they’re very intimate,” says George. “Of course, in those days, the crowds weren’t standing at the front of the stage. They were dancing. That was what it was all about. If they weren’t dancing, you probably weren’t doing too good.”

While he played several of the honky tonks, George does have a few favorites. “If I had to pick three of the best honky tonks that I ever worked in those days, I think it would be Gruene (pr. Green) Hall, Cheatham Street Warehouse and Broken Spoke.”

King George just released his 30th studio album, Honky Tonk Time Machine, last week, and he is currently making his way up the country charts with his latest song, “Every Little Honky Tonk Bar.”

  • GEORGE STRAIT KNOWS “THE WEIGHT OF THE BADGE.”

George Strait pays tribute to police officers with “The Weight of the Badge,” a song from his new album, Honky Tonk Time Machine. He wrote the song with his son, Bubba, and frequent collaborator Dean Dillon, after an encounter with an officer during the ceremony honoring him with the Texan of the Year Award.

“Last year, me and Bubba, Tamara and Harvey, everybody Norma, and even Jilliann, I think were there, and I had security, I had an officer who was talking to Harvey and letting him play with his badge and hold it and pinning it on his shirt. And I just got to thinking about that because it really wasn’t that heavy until you put it on it and then it means, it really gets heavy,” says George. “So, that was one of those things I thought was a real important message especially these days and times.”

In addition to his new album containing such an impactful song as “The Weight of the Badge,” the collection also features his Top 20 smash, “Every Little Honky Tonk Bar.”

George will perform at Ohio Stadium in Columbus on June 8th, followed by a show at Gillette Stadium on August 17th. Tickets are now on sale.

  • GEORGE STRAIT ENLISTS HIS GRANDSON HARVEY FOR HIS SONG “GOD AND COUNTRY MUSIC.”

George Strait is set to release his brand new studio album, Honky Tonk Time Machine, on Friday (March 29th). For the new project, the Country Music Hall of Famer enlisted the help of a very special guest, his grandson Harvey, on the song “God and Country Music,” which George hopes will be the first of many times he’ll collaborate with him.

“When I recorded this record, we did it in Key West and I had my grandson down there with me, and we went every day to the studio, and so he’d have to get his charts and lyrics and follow along with everybody else,” says George. “But we ended up putting him on the song ‘God and Country Music,’ and he’s there on the end of it. It’s the first time I’ve ever got to sing with my grandson; maybe it’s the first of many.”

George says the recording process was pretty fun with his young protégé. “I went in there and I kinda did it with him, and then I would kinda just back out and leave him, and so that’s how it worked out,” he says. “He was all for it. He was all about doing it. He got really involved in that record. For six years old [laughs], that’s pretty good.”

George is scaling the country charts with his latest song, “Every Little Honky Tonk Bar,” which is poised to enter the Top 20.

The troubadour will hit the stage this Saturday (March 30th) with a show at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, along with a stellar lineup of opening acts, including Chris Stapleton, Ashley McBryde and Chris Janson.
