• SAM HUNT SCORES HIS 10TH NO. 1 SINGLE WITH “OUTSKIRTS.”

Sam Hunt‘s “Outskirts” has topped both the Billboard and Country Aircheck country charts this week. Sam co-wrote “Outskirts” with Zach Crowell, Jerry Flowers and Josh Osborne, and co-produced it with Crowell and Chris LaCorte. It’s from his new EP Locked Up, which came out earlier this month.

A couple of weeks ago, Sam was hoping he’d have his tenth No. 1 song as an artist. “It is always as special, because you’ll have one, and then immediately you’ll think can I, could I have another one? This will be, as an artist, number 10 for me. So, when Outskirts had a slow start, I thought, ‘Well, maybe I’ll never hit 10.’ Well, I was already coming to terms with not reaching that number,” says the Georgia native. “If it does, it will be 10, so that will make this one even more special, because I always heard, I remember folks told me back in the day, ‘You really haven’t solidified a career that you can tour with longevity until you have 10 number-ones.’ And I remember thinking, gol’, that seems like an impossible task, and now sitting at nine, one away. In the back of my mind, I still hear that and think maybe I’ll be on sturdy ground if I can get number 10 and I can tour for the next several years, if that’s what I end up doing. So, yeah, this one’ll be a special one, a milestone.”

He’s got a couple of festival dates in May before he kicks off his Locked Up Tour in Bend, Oregon on June 28th.

  • SAM HUNT’S “OUTSKIRTS” HAS REALLY CAUGHT STEAM AND HEADED TO THE TOP OF THE COUNTRY CHARTS.

Sam Hunt‘s latest smash, “Outskirts,” is making its way to the top of the country charts, and it’s just recently vaulted up the charts in the last two months after he released it last July. Sam says he can’t explain why, but he sure is grateful.

“I wrote that song on the same writing retreat – which is a two-three day getaway north of Nashville with co-writers – I wrote ‘Kinfolks’ on that same trip. So, it’s been a while since that song was written, and I sat on it for a long time and finally finished it up last year and put it out, and it has been a slow burn,” he says. “We played it live all last summer, and it felt like it got a good reception at the live show, but it really caught steam, I’d say, in the last month and a half or so, for whatever reason, and has been rolling ever since, and now it’s sitting right up at the top of the charts, which I’m grateful for. And I can’t explain why it caught steam in the last six or eight weeks, but I’m glad that it has.”

Written by Sam with Zach Crowell, Josh Osborne and Jerry Flowers, the Georgia-native pines over a could-have-been life with a could-have-been wife as the loneliness is amplified by sorrowful guitar.

Sam just wrapped up the latest leg of his Outskirts trek, and he’s set to launch his summer amphitheater Locked Up Tour kicking off June 28th in Bend, Oregon. The 20-city Locked Up Tour continues through September with dates across the U.S. and Canada, and features support artists Russell Dickerson, George Birge (U.S.), and Dalton Dover (Canada).

Sam Hunt (4-song EP) OC: …in EP form. :35
“The four songs really go with all the songs I’ve put over the last couple and a half years, but I didn’t want to put them all together on a project considering all those songs have already been out. So, these songs do go together, but they also go together with all 10 songs when you add ‘em up. But I had 3, let’s see, ‘Outskirts’ has been out, but I had three new songs finished, but had I had all the other seven finished, I would’ve have put ‘em all out together, but (ha) this is the first time that I had more than just one at a time finished, so I decided to put them out in an EP form.”

Audio / Sam Hunt talks about what he hopes for fans listening to his new Locked Up EP.

Sam Hunt (hopes for fans for EP) OC: …soon after. :35
“These four songs reflect, I don’t know, the last three or four years of my life and that season I’ve been in, that writing season, and I hope they’ll listen to them with the other seven songs as well, because they all go together. Yeah, I hope that they can appreciate all the things about these songs that they might have appreciated about songs in the past. There are some themes I touch on that I’ve touched on in the past and some new direction, but overall the sound, I think, is pretty consistent with what I’ve done in the past. It’s a chapter that I’m closing and hopefully will start the next one soon after.”

  • SAM HUNT RELEASES NEW SONG AND MUSIC VIDEO FOR “LOCKED UP.”

Sam Hunt has released a new song, “Locked Up,” along with a new official music video for the song.

Starring Sam, his band and his beautiful wife Hannah, who was pregnant with their second child, Lowry, the clip — directed by Tim Mattia and shot at the Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary in Petros, Tennessee — has the country superstar reimagines Johnny Cash’s infamous 1968 concert at Folsom Prison.

“We found a really cool old prison in East Tennessee, and we had this idea originally to recreate the Johnny Cash Folsom Prison concert that he did back in the day and dressed up in all black, a suit, and I got a bunch of local guys to come out and dress up as inmates and had a really good time with it, sort of a period piece idea, I guess you could call it,” says Sam. “I don’t know if I did Johnny Cash justice. I doubt I did, but I enjoyed making the video and had my family out there with me and met a lot of cool folks who came out to help us with this video, so that was one of the more fun video experiences I’ve had.”

Sam co-wrote the song with Shane McAnally, Josh Osborne, Jerry Flowers and his producer Zach Crowell, and he says the tune began with a title he had. “I had that title in my phone. I wanted to write a song called ‘Locked Up,’” he says. “I had no idea about what it may be about, although I have had a few run-ins with the law in my lifetime. My producer was playing me some music, he had built some tracks and was playing through a few songs, and I was looking at my phone, and I saw the title in the songs. The music sounded like the title, which is always a good start, and I just started singing that chorus. I think I filled in, 30-40 percent of the lyric in one take.”

He is set for his performance debut of “Locked Up” at the 2024 CMT Music Awards on April 7th airing Live on CBS from the Moody Center in Austin, Texas.

Sam, who is making his way to the top of the country charts with his latest single “Outskirts,” is currently on his Outskirts 2024 Tour, which makes stops in Duluth, Minnesota today (March 22nd) and Grand Forks, North Dakota on Saturday (March 23rd).
