David Nail’s new album, Fighter, will be making a lot of people happy when they listen to all 11 tracks, and for David, that’s wonderful, but he also wanted to make himself happy. His fourth studio album, which was released on Friday (July 15th), includes several fulfilling goals for the singer, including his collaboration with one of his biggest influences, Vince Gill, on the song “I Won’t Let You Go.”
“I always treat a record like if this is my swan song, like if this is the last piece of music that I ever make, selfishly like I want to push my buttons,” says David. “I want to make me happy. I want it to fulfill some of my goals in life. One of my biggest influences in the world is Vince Gill, so I kinda had always wanted Vince to sing on a song…I’m so thankful and so blessed that he said yes.”
David wrote or co-wrote seven of the 11 songs on the album and even recorded other collaborations with Lori McKenna on “Home,” Logan Brill on “Champagne Promise,” Brothers Osborne on “Good at Tonight,” as well as “Old Man’s Symphony,” which features Bear and Bo Rinehart of Needtobreathe.
On Sunday (July 17th), David threw out the first pitch at the Philadelphia Phillies baseball game as they played host to the New York Mets.
David is set to perform his latest single, “Night’s on Fire,” on NBC’s Today Show on Monday (July 18th).

But when I wrote that song, we decided that we were gonna record it and when we started recording it, it was just the most obvious things in the world. “I just felt like there was some people that were my idea. Lori McKenna helped write ‘Home,’ and just hearing her sing the demo was really important for me to have her. I love her voice. The Brothers Osborne song they co-wrote, so it was just natural. I’d just been on the road with them for three or four months. This sounds really ridiculous, but hey man, if it all ends tomorrow, like I can go back to Kennett, Missouri and say, ‘Man! Vince Gill just sang on my record. Lee Ann Womack just sang on my record, Lori McKenna, Sarah Buxton, you know, and that makes me feel like hey, not only were they great songs, but those people thought enough of me as an artist to agree to do it, to want to do it, to be a part of it, and so that’s fulfilling to me as an artist.”
