Keith Urban just released his new song, “Female,” which was written by Shane McAnally, Ross Copperman and Nicolle Galyon. Keith discovered the song just last month, and since he connected with the song personally as a husband, as a son and especially as a father to two daughters, he felt the need to record it quickly.
“As a father of two daughters – six and nine – as a husband, as a son, it just resonated with me as just a beautiful, poignant prayer in a lot of ways too; a divinely timed piece that really needed to be put into the world,” says Keith. “When I heard the song the day after it was written, it really moved me very strongly. My wife was listening at the same time, and she had the same feeling about the song. I just said I feel very strongly I want to record this song. Luckily, I was in the middle of making my record and we just went in the studio in my house and recorded it.”
Keith is currently writing and recording a new album for 2018 and gearing up for his show on New Year’s Eve in Nashville.

“So, the song was written by Ross Copperman, Nicolle Galyon and Shane McAnally on October 10 of 2017 and I heard it the very next day. They had done a demo of the song. I got sent the song and remember sitting in the kitchen listening to it, and Shane McAnally sang the demo, so it was already a guy’s voice that I heard singing the song, and it just hit me. As a father of two daughters – six and nine – as a husband, as a son, it just resonated with me as just a beautiful, poignant prayer in a lot of ways too; a divinely timed piece that really needed to be put into the world.”

“Look, at the end of the day you never know what a song is going to do and who it’s going to affect, but all I know is for me, personally, when I heard the song the day after it was written, it really moved me very strongly. My wife was listening at the same time, and she had the same feeling about the song. I just said I feel very strongly I want to record this song. Luckily, I was in the middle of making my record and we just went in the studio in my house and recorded it.”
