SCOTTY McCREERY IS SURPRISED ON STAGE BY RETIRED NFL SEATTLE SEAHAWKS WITH A BIRTHDAY CAKE. (PRESS RELEASE)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Oct. 9, 2014 – Country music singer/songwriter Scotty McCreery turns 21 today.

While performing last night at the KMPS Presents: The Sunset Chevrolet 12 Man Jam in Seattle, the Mercury Nashville / 19 / Interscope recording artist was surprised on stage by retired NFL Seattle Seahawks players Joe Tafoya and Norm Johnson with a birthday cake to celebrate the occasion. The cake was brought out at 9:00 PM/PT, which was midnight on the East Coast and thus ensuring the young North Carolina native was officially 21.

As part of the event, KMPS also played a brief video from NFL Seattle Seahawks players, Steven Hauschka and J.R. Sweezy, sending their birthday greetings. Before joining the Seahawks, both Hauschka and Sweezy played football at North Carolina State, where McCreery is currently enrolled. That video greeting can be downloaded here.

McCreery will spend his birthday weekend with family and friends in North Carolina, before returning to the road next week  on his “See You Tonight Tour” with upcoming dates in Fayetteville, NC (Oct. 17), Toms River, NJ (Oct. 18), Bethlehem, PA (Oct. 19) and many more. McCreery is currently touring in support of his sophomore album, See You Tonight, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums charts and features both his Gold-certified, Top 10 hit “See You Tonight” and his current Top 20 and climbing single, “Feelin’ It.” His record-breaking, Platinum-certified first album, Clear As Day, debuted at No.1 on the Billboard Top 200 charts, making him the first country artist, as well as the youngest artist, to do so with their debut studio album. Clear As Day, which features fan-favorite songs such as “Trouble with Girls,” “Water Tower Town” and “I Love You This Big,” reached No. 1 on five separate Billboard charts – Billboard Top 200, Top Current Albums, Digital Albums, Internet Albums and Top Country Albums. McCreery, who won the tenth season of “American Idol” in 2011, was named the Artist of the Year: Breakthrough Artist at the 2013 American Country Awards.
