Canaan Smith is an outdoorsy kind of guy, which is perfect for the summer fairs and festivals circuit, which has him playing to crowds in outside venues. Growing up in Virginia, he would rather be outdoors, especially in the summer.  

“I love being outside, whether it be the mountains or the beach. I spent most of my summers on Virginia Beach, ‘cause I’m from Williamsburg, Virginia. It has a wide enough boardwalk so we could skateboard and get into some trouble, sneaking off and smoking cigarettes. So, that was what I would do when I was a kid,” says Canaan. “I’d take my shirt off every chance I’d get and get out in the sun.”

Canaan says he probably got his love from the outdoors from his father. “We used to call my dad ‘Turtle Man,’ ‘cause he’d just be standing in the parking lot, and if it was a sunny day, he’d just put his face to the sky and stand there and forget about what’s going on around him. [laughs] I guess I got that from him.”

Canaan is on the airwaves with his single, “Love You Like That,” which sold more than 21,000 copies in just the first week of release.
