  • NEWS AND NOTES: Priscilla Block, Taylor Swift, Eric Church and more

Priscilla Block has released the official music video for her new single, “My Bar,” from her debut album, Welcome To The Block Party.

Taylor Swift, who is making her way up the country charts with “I Bet You Think About Me” with Chris Stapleton, joins forces for a beautifully reimagined version of Ed Sheeran’s “The Joker And The Queen.”  Sharing a friendship that spans well over a decade, today marks Ed and Taylor’s fourth official collaboration to date, following “Everything Has Changed” (2012), “End Game” (2017) and “Run (Taylor’s Version)” (2021).

The accompanying Emil Nava-directed official video brims with nostalgia as continues the storyline from the iconic “Everything Has Changed” video – Taylor and Ed’s previous collaboration, released in 2012. Ten years on, the video – featuring the original actors – captures the coming-of-age story of the now 18-year-olds, Ava and Jack, as they head to college and embark on new adventures.

Eric Churchhas been announced as a headliner for the Faster Horses Festival later this year, along with Tim McGraw and Morgan Wallen. The three-day concert event, taking place in Brooklyn, Michigan July 22nd – 24th, will also feature performances from Brothers Osborne, Jordan Davis, Lauren Alaina, Ashley McBryde, Cole Swindell, Jake Owen, Chris Janson, Michael Ray and many others. In addition, Priscilla Block is among the artists performing on the Next From Nashville stage. Passes for the three-day festival go on sale March 11th.

  • BREAKOUT COUNTRY MUSIC STAR PRISCILLA BLOCK RECEIVES HER FIRST RIAA GOLD CERTIFICATION FOR HIT SINGLE “JUST ABOUT OVER YOU.”

Mercury Nashville recording artist and ACM New Female Artist of the Year Nominee, Priscilla Block, hit another milestone in her thriving young career on Friday (Feb. 18) while joining SiriusXM’s Buzz Brainard for The Highway’s Music Row Happy Hour. In the studio to surprise Priscilla, RIAA’s Jackie Jones popped into the live broadcast saying, “I am here to do one of my favorite things – to give an artist their very first certification. I’d like to congratulate you on your first Gold record!” and presented Priscilla with a “Just About Over You” Gold Certification plaque for the hit single.

“I’m at a loss for words!” shared a stunned Priscilla. “This is because of y’all [family, friends, supporters, and fans] MY FIRST CERTIFIED GOLD SINGLE. Thank y’all for keeping music alive and continuing to buy and stream my music and letting me have a dang career doing what I love!”

Making it all the sweeter was getting to share the moment with her friends at SiriusXM, who pegged Priscilla as one of its Highway Finds back before she had fully caught the attention of Music Row.

Priscilla Block (Just About Over You) 2 OC: …how it happened. 1:07
“It is so crazy how real this happened. Honestly, I had gone to the bar, I was with my sister. I was moving out of my apartment that weekend. It was the weekend I was moving out, I basically got kicked out; I couldn’t afford my rent. We were like, ‘Let’s just go get a drink. This weekend has been too much. Let’s just go.’ Go to Losers, see my ex as soon as I walk in, and you know, it was just kind of one of those moments that I walked in, and I was like, ‘You know what? I’m good. Like I really am good.’ And then as the night goes on, the drinks start hitting a little bit, and I was like, ‘Dang, maybe I’m not.’ (laughs) The whole song is like a mental mindgame. You’re like is it the alcohol? Do I really miss them? Am I just putting a band-aid over it? What is it? How am I actually feeling about this? You know, I had written that idea down, went back home, we talked to my mom about it and whatever, and a couple of days later, we ended up writing that song over Facetime with two of my girlfriends, just exactly how it happened.”

Audio / CARRIE UNDERWOOD SAYS SHE AND JASON ALDEAN HAVE WANTED TO DO A DUET, BUT FEELS LIKE “IF I DIDN’T LOVE YOU” WAS THE “PERFECT FIT.”

“Jason asked if I would sing ‘If I Didn’t Love You’ with him. I knew I liked the song, and Jason and I have actually been kind of trying to do things together over the years. We’ve sang together before, but we’ve never officially recorded anything together. It just kind of felt like this could be our moment. I felt like it was a little bit of an unexpected duet to other people, but I feel like I kinda always knew at some point I’d probably sing with him officially, and this just seemed like, the stars were aligning and it just seemed like it was going to be the perfect fit.”

Audio / Jordan Davis says the success his two-week No. 1 song, "Buy Dirt," is having is pretty special.

“It just means a lot more. I wrote it with my brother (Jacob) and two my best friends (Josh and Matt Jenkins) in town and just the content of it. It comes from a really, really honest place. So, when you have songs that mean that much and you get to see them have success like ‘Buy Dirt’ is having, it’s a little bit more special.”

Audio / Jordan Davis talks about how he and his tree co-writers came up with "Buy Dirt."

Jordan Davis (Buy Dirt origin) OC: …that day. :55
“We took a writer’s retreat a little south of Nashville, me and three of my favorite writers in the world – Matt Jenkins, Josh Jenkins and my brother Jacob. We started every day – we were down there three days – and we started every day with coffee on the back porch, and Josh would lead us in some type of devotional. He would find some scripture and then we would just kind of chew on it for a little bit. That day he had read, and I need to remember the exact scripture, but it was something about being planted, being planted in the dirt and having a strong root system so you can weather storms and rain. That is really the start of ‘Buy Dirt.’ And I don’t know if that song comes if we don’t wake up early and get out there and kind of start talking about real life. That was where it all started, and I’m grateful, grateful that I (laughs) didn’t sleep in that day.”

Audio / Jordan Davis explains how Luke Bryan ended up on his song, "Buy Dirt."

    Download

Jordan Davis (Luke Bryan on Buy Dirt) OC: …my songs now. 1:13
“I met Luke three or four years ago at an awards show after party, and got to hang with him, but I really kind of got to sit and talk with him after a round of golf one day, and we just really talked about everything under the sun aside from music. Luke kind of embodies what that song is. You know a lot of people get to see Luke on American Idol or on stage, but Luke Bryan really is a great guy. I sent him a message one day, a text message actually attached with the song, and I was like, ‘Hey Luke, I wrote this. It means a lot to me. You came to mind whenever I was thinking about it, through the writing process, and this song just kind of says what you’re about, and if you want to sing on it, great, no pressure. Don’t even feel the need to text me back or whatever. Just listen to it and let me know.’ And he got right back with me. He’s like, ‘Man I love the song. Let me live with it for a couple of days.’ And he called me back four or five days later and was like, ‘When do you want me singing on this thing?’ That was a pretty cool moment. I’m such a big fan of Luke, and he’s been a huge influence on me since I moved to Nashville, and pretty cool to have him on one of my songs now.”

And I don’t know if it was because my mom bought my brother a Pittsburgh Steelers pennant for some reason, and bought me a Dallas Cowboys pennant, and of course over the year I fell in love with the Cowboys, and then I wanted a jersey the next Christmas, and then the next one, I wanted [more Cowboys stuff]. So, I became a long-term fan with those guys. But I like it all now that I’m older. I’ll watch any game, it doesn’t matter who’s playing. But [I] love football.”

I was running the ball and I came around the corner – this was in high school – and a foreign exchange student, I think her name was Inga (KIMBERLY: “Inga.”), and I didn’t want to fumble ‘cause my brother and my dad were there, and I come from this very athletic family, so I held onto the ball. I knew I was going to go down, so I let my head hit first and I bit all the way through, but I didn’t fumble and I had a hole in my face, though. The sad thing is that it was just flag football, but I left my flags on and cleats and everything, ‘cause it looked cool, and I had blood running all down my jersey. I went to the emergency room like that, and they sewed up my lip.”

Luke Bryan (Super Bowl food) OC: …over again. :22
“Definitely Super Bowl is like the queso, the Frito Lay scoops with the Ro-tel situation. I guess it’s like, what’s the black-eyed pea stuff too? All of that, just stuff that you can sit there and have lots of sodium, and then just, it’s like Thanksgiving all over again.”

Audio / Priscilla Block says Super Bowl Sunday is so much fun.

Priscilla Block (Football/Super Bowl food) OC: …what happens. :23
“I mean, I feel like the Super Bowl is like just such a fun day. I’m really excited for the half-time show. I feel like that’s usually why I’m there, is to watch the anthem and the half-time show, but yes, excited to eat all the bad things. And I’m honestly, I don’t feel pulled any way this year. I wish the (Tennessee) Titans were in it, but we’ll see what happens.”

Audio / SAM HUNT LOVES THAT THE SUPER BOWL MIXES HIS TWO LOVES – MUSIC AND FOOTBALL.

Sam Hunt (Super Bowl & music) OC: …combined there. :24
“It’s become such a massive pop culture event, and I love that they’ve incorporated music and entertainment with the sport itself and the entertainment value that comes from that. It encompasses just a strong representation of American culture, and I’m a huge music fan, obviously, and I’m a huge sports fan, so those are two of my favorite worlds combined there.”

Audio / Travis Denning is excited about this year's Big Game because former Georgia quarterback Matt Stafford, who plays for the St. Louis Rams, is in the Super Bowl for the first time.

Travis Denning (Super Bowl 2022) OC: …amazing game. :35
“Hey y’all, Travis Denning here. I’m super fired up for this upcoming Super Bowl, mainly because Matt Stafford – a Georgia boy – is starting for the Rams. I’ve been a big fan of his since he played college at Georgia, obviously, and it’s amazing to see after 10-plus seasons, I think it’s like 13 seasons or something that he’s finally in the Super Bowl. So, I’m pulling for the Rams, but I’m a big Joe Burrow fan. I do like Joe Burrow. He’s fun, he’s hilarious, he’s an amazing football player, so I think it’s gonna be an amazing game.”

Priscilla Block is ready to release her debut album, Welcome To The Block Party, tomorrow (February 11th). The collection, which she’s been working on for about two years, follows last year’s six-song self-titled Priscilla Block EP, the highest-performing country female debut EP of 2021. Bringing a lyrically driven blend of Country-Pop and Southern Rock – a.k.a. the “Block Party” sound – to Nashville’s evolving musical landscape, Welcome To The Block Party features 12 songs, all written by the newcomer, including “Just About Over You,” the Top 15 smash and highest peaking debut single from a female country artist in 2021.

The intro track on the new album is a song she and her co-writer Mark Mulch wrote, which also intros her live shows. “’Welcome To The Block Party’ is a song that I wrote years ago, and my co-writer came into the room and was like, ‘Have you ever written a song called ‘Welcome To The Block Party?’ Like you are the block party. It’s the title of the album. It is the first song we ever play in our live shows, and it’s just electric. It’s exciting, and I felt like intro’ing my album with this gets people excited for a live show, and I want people to feel like this whole album is a live experience, and I’m really, really excited for this choice. And we also pulled some really big moments this year to put into that intro, and I’m really, really excited for it. It just made sense, and it’s cool because it ties the live show into the record.”

“’Welcome To The Block Party’ is a song that I wrote years ago, and my co-writer came into the room and was like, ‘Have you ever written a song called ‘Welcome To The Block Party?’ Like you are the block party. You call your fans the Block Party. Like we need a Block Party song.’ This has been the song that we’ve always intro’d our shows with. It gets the people going. It’s exciting, and I just figured why not start my album with ‘Welcome To The Block Party’ and let people experience the feeling of what a live show is going to feel like, and that’s the song on the album that you have to go to the live show to hear it fully. And it just made sense with titling the album, Welcome To The Block Party. The world is getting to meet me, and I’m excited. I’m like, ‘Hey! Here I am. Here it is. You either love it or leave it. Welcome to the Block Party, baby!”

Audio / Priscilla Block says she put the intro track on her debut album, Welcome To The Block Party, because it ties her live show into her record.
