• VINCE GILL ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM “OKIE” AVAILABLE AUGUST 23RD.

GRAMMY Award-winning MCA Nashville country star Vince Gill announced today that his new album, Okie, will be released on August 23. Along with the announcement comes the premiere of a new  focus track titled “A Letter To My Mama,” listen HERE.  Gill wrote or co-wrote all 12 songs on Okie.

The album’s title is taken from the once-derogatory term used to disparage migrants from Oklahoma to the nation’s west coast during the Dust Bowl and Great Depression eras. A proud Oklahoman, Gill has appropriated this term on an album that embraces his roots and explores some of the most important issues of our time.

“I thought this was going to be a songwriter record, not a concept album,” Gill says. “It wound up being more information than I’d envisioned. A friend sent me an email saying, ‘You could have only written this record after living a 60-year-plus life.’ He said, ‘There’s no struggle in these songs, just truth and your experience.”

Okie marks Gill’s most recent solo album since 2016’s Down To My Last Bad Habit and 2011’s Guitar Slinger.  In 2013, Gill partnered with famed steel guitarist Paul Franklin on Bakersfield as a tribute to the “Bakersfield sound” of Buck Owens and Merle Haggard. With 21 GRAMMY Awards to his credit.  Gill has solidified his place as country music’s most eloquent and impassioned champion. He is both a world-class musician and a wide-ranging songwriter whose compositions earned him entry into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005 and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2007. Gill has also made appearances on over 1000 artists’ records.

In 2017, Gill was invited to join the Eagles for their worldwide tour, and later this month he will again join the band for the European leg of their upcoming tour with stops in Antwerp, Belgium, Cologne, Germany and Amsterdam.

Chris Stapleton (Millionaire) OC: …time to do it. :15
“I love that song. I would always sit around the house playing that song to myself on guitar. It’s fun to play. It’s fun to sing. It’s a great melody. It’s great lyrics. It’s great everything. To me, that’s a great song, and I just loved it so it was time to do it.”

Audio / Keith Urban talks about the song, “Parallel Line,” which was co-written by Ed Sheeran.

Keith Urban (Parallel Line) 2 OC: …great line. :37
“Ed’s the only guy you’re gonna hear say, ‘You said I love you to me/and I don’t know what that means/so I froze on my feet/people use it so carelessly.’ When is a guy going to say, ‘People use the word so carelessly?’ That’s not usually a guy sentiment, but I feel it as far as being scared of having my heart broken by somebody. Yeah. That’s a guy feeling. That’s a human feeling. So, when I heard those opening lines and chorus, ‘take a little bit of my heart tonight/No I literally don’t mind/just please don’t misplace it.’ Gosh, that’s a great line.”

Audio / Brothers Osborne says getting out of Nashville helped them focus just on making a record.

Brothers Osborne (Port Saint Joe) 2 OC: …you escape. :21
JOHN: “There were no distractions, because we were away from Nashville.  We were just really able to stay focused and do our thing and not worry about the distractions of just being at home in Nashville.” TJ: “And that was one of the things that we most loved about recording out there was just to simply get into the record and get lost and do what really music does best; it just helps you escape.”

“I’d had this song for about two years. It’s been a song I’ve been holding on for a little while. I just love that song. I could really relate to the lyrics. In the studio, Jedd Hughes put down this great guitar part, and I thought, ‘Man, John would be really cool on that,’ and then, obviously TJ has a, I love his singing. Great voice. I would’ve asked them to be on it regardless, I really would have, but the fact they’re on tour with us just makes it all that sweeter. Those guys are the perfect group to do it with and they definitely took it to a new spot and now we get to sing it every night on stage, so it worked out really well.”
