She was a school teacher, and I grew up a preacher’s kid. My dad was in the ministry. We were in church or school every time the doors were open and when we weren’t doing that, life kind of revolved around sports – football, baseball, basketball. One piece of advice that stuck with me that my dad gave to me was to write your own book, and when I moved to Nashville, I think it could’ve been very tempting to follow a trend or follow a crowd and just try to be like other guys. That’s something that’s always stuck with me and I’m grateful for, because I think being the best you is pretty good advice, no matter what field you’re in.”
