• CARRIE UNDERWOOD RELEASES HER NEW SONG, “SOUTHBOUND.”

Carrie Underwood has released “Southbound” as her new single, just in time for her summer tour. She co-wrote the song, the latest from her No. 1 debuting album Cry Pretty, with her producer David Garcia, as well as collaborator Josh Miller.

“We get in a room, and I had the title. I was like this sounds like fun, I think. We can do something fun with this,” says Carrie. “So, Katie, we wanted to make her like have a little too much fun, but for every line we came out with, it was like well we don’t want her to be like – we don’t want it to be sad. We still had to make Katie have a little respect but wanted to just get it out there that some people were having too much fun. It surprisingly took us a while to write it but by the end of it, it was like, ‘Well, this is a lot of fun.’ I feel like everybody kind of gravitated towards that one when we were all done with it.”

The Cry Pretty Tour 360, which also features Maddie & Tae and Runaway June, launches May 1st in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Audio / Carrie Underwood talks about the song “Southbound,” which she co-wrote with David Garcia and Josh Miller and was one of the last songs recorded for her new album, Cry Pretty.

“We get in a room, and I had the title. I was like this sounds like fun, I think. We can do something fun with this. But then you realize how tricky for some reason it is to be a woman and write like kind of a drinking party boat song. It’s strange. You wouldn’t think it would be any different, but I’m like for some reason I feel like a guy could get away with saying this line that we just threw out there, but I can’t for some reason. And I used Katie in the song as an example. So, Katie, we wanted to make her like have a little too much fun, but for every line we came out with, it was like well we don’t want her to be like – we don’t want it to be sad. We still had to make Katie have a little respect but wanted to just get it out there that some people were having too much fun. I just think it something that everybody will be able to relate to in some way or another, and it’s such an inspiring film. I cried my way through it. I was bawling about 10 minutes in [laughs], in a good way. I’m just always happy when I can be part of things that can inspire, and I was honored that they wanted to use ‘Love Wins’ in the movie.”

Kacey Musgraves (Space Cowboy inspiration) OC: …include that. 1:20
“The inspiration for ‘Space Cowboy’ was actually triggered by something that my horseback riding teacher, Lori, said to me one day. We were out at the arena and we were watching this stallion go totally crazy in the arena just galloping from one end to the other, just kind of losing its mind and being really reckless and really powerful. I watched it come charging toward me, and I was standing on the other side of the gate, and Lori was screaming at me, ‘Back up, back up! Move out of the way!’ And I really didn’t think anything of it. I said, ‘I’m on the other side of the gate. The gate’s closed. It doesn’t matter.’ She said, ‘Girl-when they wanna go, they’re gonna go. There ain’t no sense in closing the gate.’ That made a big impression on me and I wrote it down, and then ‘Space Cowboy’ came a couple of days later when I wrote it with Shane McAnally and Luke Laird. It just seemed to kind of apply itself in a metaphorical sense to a narrative that I’ve found myself in many times in my life. It’s a narrative that a lot of people I know can relate to. So, this song was very important song for me to include on the album, because though I am in a really happy place now, it’s not always been that way and it was important for me to include that.”

Audio / Luke Bryan describes what makes him country.

Luke Bryan (what makes him country) OC: …small town. :37
“I think that what makes me country is where I was raised — Leesburg, Georgia — how I was brought up saying ‘Yes sir,’ ‘No sir,’ ‘Yes, ma’am,’ ‘No, ma’am,’ hopefully with manners and raised with a work ethic and raised in the outdoors fishing and hunting and playing sports. But yeah, I would say definitely it starts with my small-town upbringing and how we were raised; church on Sundays as much as we could. But just enjoying life and living life in a small town.”

  • CARRIE UNDERWOOD’S “LOVE WINS” NEARS THE TOP 10.

Carrie Underwood is nearing the Top 10 on the country charts with her latest smash, “Love Wins,” and the soaring notes at the end feature a choir made up of her, songwriters Brett James and Dave Barnes, as well as producer-writer David Garcia and vocalists Perry Coleman, Vicky Hampton and Wendy Moten and some pretty amazing strings.

Carrie says it “felt right to have a choir” on “Love Wins.” “There’s something that’s heavenly about it and how it all comes out and you’re like, ‘Ahhhhh,’” she says. “There’s just something that makes my heart jump when I hear this. Yeah, a choir just felt right.”

Yeah, a choir just felt right.”

    ABOUT BREAKTHROUGH
BREAKTHROUGH is based on the inspirational true story of one mother’s unfaltering love in the face of impossible odds. When Joyce Smith’s adopted son John falls through an icy Missouri lake, all hope seems lost. But as John lies lifeless, Joyce refuses to give up. Her steadfast belief inspires those around her to continue to pray for John’s recovery, even in the face of every case history and scientific prediction. From producer DeVon Franklin (Miracles from Heaven) and adapted for the screen by Grant Nieporte (Seven Pounds) from Joyce Smith’s own book, BREAKTHROUGH, directed by Roxann Dawson, is an enthralling reminder that faith and love can create a mountain of hope, and sometimes even a miracle.
