• JORDAN DAVIS HITS THE TOP OF THE COUNTRY CHARTS WITH “SLOW DANCE IN A PARKING LOT.”

It was a dream of becoming a songwriter that first brought Shreveport, Louisiana native Jordan Davis to Nashville in 2012. A lot has changed for 2020 ACM Best New Male Artist of the Year nominee since moving to Music City. From signing a record deal and racking up over one billion streams of his debut album Home State to touring the country playing for fans and now notching his third consecutive No. 1 single with “Slow Dance in a Parking Lot,” one thing has remained constant for the breakthrough hitmaker, his love for the craft of songwriting.

When Davis sat down with co-writer Lonnie Fowler for a writing session in 2015 – their first together – he was feeling creatively spent after a week of writing daily. But as the two got to know each other, discussing hometowns and first dates, it was Fowler’s story of his first date with his now-wife that became the foundation for the already Gold Certified “Slow Dance in a Parking Lot.”

“When Lonnie told me the story of that first date with his wife…he was taking her home from their college formal and didn’t want the night to end, so he pulled into a parking lot and put on Garth Brooks’ ‘She’s Every Woman’ and asked her for one last dance. I just thought ‘man, that captures everything country music is about right there,’” shares the man Billboard and Rolling Stone have dubbed an “Artist to Watch.”

Davis continues, “Sharing the truth in three and a half minutes…that is what a good country song does. It is what we wanted to do with ‘Slow Dance,’ tell this real and honest love story. It’s been great to see that authenticity resonate with fans. From slow dancing at our shows to sharing their own videos on socials slow dancing in parking lots, they’ve really embraced it. Big thanks to Lonnie for letting me share his story and to the fans and country radio for their continued support. I couldn’t be more proud or thankful.”

The song Taste of Country called “a down-to-earth love song,” is the third single from Davis’s debut album Home State. It marks his third consecutive No. 1, following the 2x Platinum Certified “Singles You Up” and Platinum Certified “Take It From Me.”

And as Forbes recently noted, “the hits just keep coming” for Davis. This success follows a string of recent releases including the deeply personal “Detours,” “Trouble Town” which also served as the name of his just wrapped headlining Trouble Town Tour,  a collaboration with pop star Julia Michaels called “Cool Anymore,” as well as an Amazon Original cover of Jo Dee Messina’s 1996 hit “Heads Carolina, Tails California.”

“Hi, this is Carrie Underwood. I am dealing with the social distancing much like everybody else. We are just at home, and we are trying to get out and explore when the weather’s nice enough to do so. We are so lucky that we have some land around us that we get to get outside and get some of our energy out, especially with a five-year-old, for Isaiah, trying to come up with crafts. I’ve been cooking a lot. My house is spotless. [laughs] But just trying to do what I can work-wise as much as I can at home and trying not to worry and praying much like everybody else.”

“My favorite show? It depends on what time of year it is, to be honest. We do guilty watch The Bachelor or Bachelorette. I love The Walking Dead when that’s on. I do like A Million Little Things when that’s on. It seems like maybe when one of my favorite shows ends, it’s like another one starts back up again. But we watch a lot of murder-mystery type shows, as well.”

“I’m doing a lot of the same things I’ve always done to stay healthy. I’m trying to eat right, take care of my body. But I have followed the guidelines of quarantining myself. I’m trying to do everything asked of me. I’m currently in the mountains and I’m rock climbing. I’m completely solo. I’m off the grid. I’ve stocked up on a lot of frozen meats. I’ve got a little lodge up here in Kentucky, so I’m hanging out here, so that’s where I’m spending my time. I’ve always wanted to learn Spanish. I’ve always been able to dabble in it, but I want to get better at it. So, the first thing I did was I downloaded the dual lingo app, and it’s very elementary. Every single morning, I try to spend 45 minutes to an hour with that app, and the other thing that I’ve been trying to do is I have been outside trying to work on my skateboard game.”

I know we’re catching up on some movies and some TV shows and also just spending a lot of time with my daughter and my wife, trying to get back into catching up on some books and just kind of re-centering and slowing down a little bit. I hope everybody’s kind of doing that. I hope everybody, like I said, stays healthy and safe, and I look forward to being back out and playing music for you guys.”

“We’re doing well. We’re stocked up on groceries and supplies and we live south of town. We just moved into a little cabin out in the woods about five months ago, so we’re getting some time in the new place, getting to know it a little bit. There’s some woods behind the house we can go and walk in, and we’re doing that now after we binged out on Netflix and Youtube, and got some dogs. I’ve got a little bird dog puppy, I’ll get out in the yard, trying to train, so I’ll mess with him a little bit. But getting to spend some time around the house, taking it easy, but I’m hoping this thing passes sooner than later.”

I feel like that guy was just down the road from where I grew up. I feel like I knew that guy and a lot of those characters in that show, but maybe that’s why I liked it because it was so familiar to me. But there’s a lot of drama playing out there.”

Obviously as a 25-year-old girl who lives alone, that can be kind of crazy to be at home alone, but I know the importance of it and I think right now it’s not about me or about you, it’s about all of us. We’re all in this together and we have to take the necessary precautions to stop this horrible, horrible virus, and as hard as it is for me, I am doing everything I can to be safe and clean and do my part and I think we all have to do that right now. And I’m writing on Zoom, which is an app that I can connect with, it’s a video app that I can connect with the other songwriters and hopefully I can finish this album in this time and have that ready to go when we all get back to our lives.”

Even if it’s not face-to-face we have endless time to connect with people. And I think we’ve all done a really good job through Instagram and Facebook and Twitter and all of our social medias to stay in touch with one another, and I think this is an opportunity to remember how much people mean to you and to tell them. Be safe, be kind, and I hope to see you soon.”

Also DIY — get on Pinterest and find some cute home décor that you can make. I’m going to be doing some projects today for my garden and some spring décor. Even if it turns out ugly it’s still going to be good for your soul.” Tae- “What’s your favorite show right now? I’m watching Westworld and it’s crazy it’s on HBO I think.”Maddie- “Yea I’m watching Walking Dead from the beginning, but I don’t recommend that for anxious people. There’s one show called Good Girls that I really really love. I think the first two seasons are on Netflix now and that is a great watch. My favorite movie is The Holiday. That makes me happy every single time I watch it. What’s your favorite movie? Wait I know your favorite movie.” Tae- “Favorite movie, well I have lots, but I love anything. I just watched, um, it’s called Ready or Not and I watched The Invisible Man two scary movies. Ready or Not’s a good comedy scary it’s so good.” (Maddie) – “Tae loves scary movies. We are all very isolated, but strangely we’re all going through this together. And I think it’s very, very important just to give each other a call – call a loved one, call your Mom, call your dad, call anyone, call someone that you haven’t talked to in years. I think it’s very important to stay very connected. Even though we’re physically isolated we don’t have to be spiritually or emotionally isolated from people, so just give people a call and while you’re at it, take a damn shower already. • JORDAN DAVIS SLOW DANCES NEAR THE TOP OF THE COUNTRY CHARTS.

Jordan Davis is closing in on the top of the country charts with his latest hit, “Slow Dance in a Parking Lot,” the follow-up to his previous two No. 1 hits, “Singles You Up” and “Take It From Me.”

The Louisiana native co-wrote the sentimental tune with Lonnie Fowler after talking about Lonnie’s first date with his now wife. It’s a true story. That was written with Lonnie Fowler. “We didn’t have an idea of what we were going to write that day, and we started talking about first dates,” says Jordan. “He asked me about my first date, which was not eventful at all, and then I asked him about his first date, and it was him and his wife on their way home, a Garth Brooks song comes on the radio, they pull in a parking lot and he asks her to slow dance. I was like, ‘Dude, if there’s ever a country song, that’s it right there.’”

Audio / ERIC CHURCH TALKS ABOUT THE ENERGY EXCHANGED BETWEEN HIM AND HIS FANS IN THE AUDIENCE AT HIS SHOWS

    Download

Eric Church (performing energy) OC: …type of crowd. :40
“Well, I think for me every night I try to empty the tank. There’s always that energy floating around. It’s a palpable thing, and it’s up to me to start that exchange and get the crowd to give it back to me and then watch it build on itself and just to have that experience. We have one night here in whatever city we’re in, you know, we’ve got this night. I’m not gonna see you for a while you’re not gonna see me for a while, you know? And I love being able to capitalize on that moment and trying to live in that moment and get as much energy exchange between myself and the crowd as we can. I love that. That’s my favorite part of what we do. I love being around people, I’m very passionate about my music, and I love people who are passionate about the music too and I love playing a show for that type of crowd.”

Audio / ERIC CHURCH TALKS ABOUT HIS SONG "SOME OF IT."

    Download

Eric Church (Some of It coming of age) OC: …figure it out. :56
“That’s a song, a coming-of-age song, it’s an adult song. It’s adult music. If you listen to the thematics in that and what it’s about, it’s about being older and having some wisdom about you. I think that’s something that I appreciate in my fan base now that early on probably wasn’t there. We were young and drunk and fighting and stupid. But I think now to see them grow – to see the fan base grow – it’s just one of those songs that came along at the right time. And again, it was such a blessing that happened. It wasn’t going to be on the album. It was just one of those freak things that I put it on the album, the last song on the album. The album was done, and all of a sudden it becomes the pillar, one of the pillars on the album. I think again, you go back to it’s one of the great things about music, is you just never know what’s going to happen until it’s all said and done. You can try to plan all you want to, but you’ll probably not going to figure it out.”

Audio / LAST YEAR, CARRIE UNDERWOOD TALKED ABOUT HER ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR NOMINATION FOR LAST YEAR’S CMA AWARDS…AND THE SAME SENTIMENT HOLDS TRUE FOR THIS YEAR’S ACM AWARDS.

    Download

Carrie Underwood (Entertainer nod 2019) OC: …sorry boys! (laughs) :28
“I personally feel like entertainer. It’s everything, right? So, I feel like people kind of narrow it down to tours, but I feel like there’s so many more components to it. And, you know, I’m blessed and lucky to be nominated, obviously, and fantastic company. It would be amazing, but of course, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want it. (laughs) Sorry boys.” (laughs)

Audio / LUKE BRYAN TALKS ABOUT BEING NAMED ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR FROM BOTH THE ACM AWARDS AND CMA AWARDS.

    Download

Luke Bryan (Entertainer wins) OC: …got it right. :49
“The title is what it is, you know? I mean, my focus in life when I’m on stage is entertaining these fans. If it’s my smile and my demeanor, if it’s my song that does it, if it’s me picking up a child out of the audience and letting them sing, it’s not being so premeditated that you can see it from a mile away. I mean, my main thing is be a fan up there that just gets to sing. That’s kind of how I’ve always approached it, and being called the Entertainer of the Year makes me want to do that to the best of my ability every night for the rest of my life as long as I’m on stage. I want people to leave my shows and go, ‘You know what? Whoever’s voting him Entertainer of the Year, they got it right.’”

Audio / Jordan Davis reacts to his ACM Nomination for New Male Artist of the Year this year.

    Download

Jordan Davis (ACM nomination) OC: …in Vegas. :18
“Hey! This is Jordan Davis, and I just want to say thank you to the ACMs (and) to all my supporters in country music for making me a nominee for the New (Male) Artist of the Year at the 55th ACM Awards. I grew up watching this and to be on it now is a dream come true. So, thank y’all so much. Looking forward to an awesome weekend in Vegas.”

Audio / Caylee Hammack is overwhelmed by her two ACM nominations for Music Event and New Female Artist of the Year.

    Download

Caylee Hammack (ACM nominations) OC: …Thank you. (laughs) :47
“I am blown away and just completely in awe in this situation to wake up and realize that I have two nominations for the ACMs. It’s, this is the biggest blessing in my life, I feel like right now, and I’m just so excited to be included in such a great group of women in the first place with Miranda Lambert pulling us all together to do that cover. It is amazing to see that it was nominated for Music Event of the Year and also as a young female artist in this industry, it is such a validating moment for me to be nominated as a New Female Artist of the Year nominee. Just thank you. Anybody, whoever it was, who had to kill somebody to get me there. Thank you!”(laughs)
