Canaan Smith releases his debut album, Bronco, on Tuesday, and he says folks will hopefully feel a full range of emotions when they listen to it.
“I wanted Bronco as an album to be cohesive and tell a story and to be true to who I am and take the listener through a journey. From start to finish, I want them to feel a gamut of emotions. I want them to be heartbroken and I want them to be – to be rejuvenated and feel like they’re on top of the world.”
The album, which features his Top 10 single “Love You Like That,” kicks off with “Good Kinda Bad,” which Canaan calls a bit “mysterious,” and it wraps up with the title cut, “Bronco,” which is the story of him losing his older brother, Nathaniel.
Canaan is traveling from city to city this week to chat about his debut album and is expected to announce the name of his band from his hometown of Williamsburg, Virginia this week.

“I wanted Bronco as an album to be cohesive and tell a story and to be true to who I am and take the listener through a journey. From start to finish, I want them to feel a gamut of emotions. I want them to be heartbroken and I want them to be – to be rejuvenated and feel like they’re on top of the world. And so picking songs for the album is a process. I’ve written a ton of songs and sorting through and sifting through the ones that felt like they were viable for this album. It was a long process, but in the end, I think we got something that really leads the listener through my life, pieces of who I am, what I’m all about. Starts off a little mysterious and dangerous with ‘Good Kind of Bad’ and ends on ‘Bronco’ which is the story of losing my brother. So I’m really proud of the way it’s taken shape.”
