Even with her debut performance at the legendary Glastonbury Festival as a key highlight, there were no shortage of memorable moments on multi-platinum, seven-time Grammy Award-winning superstar Carrie Underwood’s THE CRY PRETTY TOUR UK, which concluded a successful arena run on July 4th at London’s famed Wembley Arena.
The tour kicked off June 28th in Birmingham, England and brought Underwood’s dynamic production and signature vocal prowess to thousands of fans throughout England, Wales and Scotland with five arena shows. Fans traveled from around the world – England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Germany, France, Spain, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Holland, Australia, Singapore, Israel, Slovenia, Iraq, Canada, the U.S. and more – to attend the UK the shows. THE CRY PRETTY TOUR UK also featured the UK’s best-selling country act of all time, The Shires, as Underwood’s special guest.
One of the standout moments of the tour was Underwood’s milestone performance at Glastonbury Festival’s iconic Pyramid Stage – which was seen around the world online – and hailed a “triumphant debut” and “itself a true testament to the popularity and quality of [Underwood]” by the Manchester Evening News – where Underwood joined an all-star line-up on the main stage for this year’s festival that also included Janet Jackson, The Killers, Hozier, The Cure, Bastille, Vampire Weekend and Kylie Minogue, among others.
Glastonbury Festival is regarded as one of the largest performing arts festivals in the world and is known for attracting top acts from every musical genre. In its near 50-year history, the festival has only welcomed a handful of US country artists, and even fewer to perform on the celebrated main stage, including Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash.
Performing on June 29th under sunny skies to a huge crowd, whose enthusiasm was especially shown during Underwood’s performance of her smash hit “Before He Cheats.” Watch the incredible performance HERE. The Scottish Sun hailed the performance as “spectacular” while The Guardianpraised Underwood’s commanding stage presence, musicianship, deep catalogue and broader musical impact:
“On ‘Cowboy Casanova,’ she pulls off a battering vocal run that makes its vengeful sentiment (“You better run for your life”) even more brilliantly menacing…she’s often found standing atop a black pyramid, contributing electric and acoustic guitar to her eight-piece band’s brawny chug. It’d be easy to approach Underwood with preconceptions… but there’s an unapologetic libidinousness and femininity to her songs that earns her a place in country’s outlaw lineage, bringing the margins of women’s lives into a genre that has, recently, sought to sideline their experiences despite them being foundational country touchstones.”
Underwood’s THE CRY PRETTY TOUR 360 will resume in North America on September 10th in San Diego, CA and travel through cities such as Los Angeles, CA (STAPLES Center); Nashville, TN (Bridgestone Arena); New York City, NY (Madison Square Garden) and Chicago, IL (United Center) before concluding on October 31 in Detroit, MI. Underwood will once again be joined by special guests Maddie & Tae and Runaway June for an all-female bill on all dates of the tour, sponsored by CALIA and promoted by AEG Presents. The first leg of the tour wrapped in June 2019 after more than 25 dates across North America. For more information regarding THE CRY PRETTY TOUR 360, go to http://www.carrieunderwoodofficial.com.
