CMA AWARDS 2014: Kacey Musgraves (AUDIO)

CMA AWARDS 2014: Kacey Musgraves (AUDIO)

The reigning New Artist of the Year, Kacey Musgraves, is going into Wednesday night’s CMA Awards with three nominations – Female Vocalist of the Year, Music Video and Song of the Year for “Follow Your Arrow.”

Being a part of the Female category and touted as one of the women to carry on the traditional moniker for women, she is just thrilled. “I am so excited to be a part of the women in country music movement,” says Kacey. “I look at people like Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton, songwriters who were sassy and beautiful and also intelligent and humorous. They inspired me, and if I can be at all part of that in carrying that on, then that’s just icing on the cake for me, and I feel like I’ve done my job.

The 48th Annual CMA Awards will be broadcast live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena Wednesday (November 5th) at 8pm ET on ABC.

Kacey Musgraves is passionate about her song, “Follow Your Arrow,” which was nominated for both Music Video and Song of the Year at this year’s CMA Awards.

Kacey Musgraves (Follow Your Arrow) 2 OC: …accepting other people. :43
“I get like fired up when I talk about this song, because it’s so fun to play and it’s always interesting. I’m always wary whenever I play it a little bit because it does push some buttons, but people young and old seem to get a kick out of it and just appreciate that fact that like I’m showing love to people who don’t usually get that in our genre. And, too, it’s just funny because no matter what side of the coin you’re on, gay, straight, left, right, black, white, anything, I mean there’s always going to be an opposing opinion so it doesn’t matter. Like society is going to have an opinion either way. You’re never going to make society happy completely. I mean if you’re too fat, then you need to lose weight, but if you lose too much weight, then oh, she’s on crack. It’s just about being who are and accepting other people.”

[[2]AUDIO: Kacey Musgraves says her CMA-nominated song, “Follow Your Arrow,” is a positive message for everyone.

Kacey Musgraves (FYA-positive message) OC: …with them. :35
“It’s just a positive message for people of all kinds to just do what they love and do what makes them happy, because it doesn’t matter. No matter what, you’re not gonna be everybody’s cup of tea and that’s okay. Of course there’s some humor in the song too. I don’t think it would be a Kacey Musgraves’ song without just a little bit of tongue-in-cheekness. Sonically, it pulls influences from, I love like Glen Campbell and Marty Robbins and people like that. I hope it transcends all different kinds of people, ‘cause I feel like there’s room for everyone and there’s room for everyone’s ideas, even if I don’t agree with them.”
