CMA AWARDS 2019: Female Vocalist of the Year

CMA AWARDS 2019: Female Vocalist of the Year
Artists
Carrie Underwood
Kacey Musgraves

Carrie Underwood and Kacey Musgraves are nominated for CMA Female Vocalist at this year’s CMA Awards.

Carrie has been nominated in the Female Vocalist of the Year award 14 times and has won it five times (2006, 2007, 2008, 2016, 2018), including last year. She told press backstage that this award meant a lot to her. “I would be lying if I said I didn’t want awards because I’m a competitive person and I love these,” says Carrie. “I love these shows. I love the CMAs. I have such respect for this show and this organization, but when you’re making an album, you want it to be better. You want to push yourself as an artist. For me, with all the ups and downs we’ve been through, plus making an album on top of all of that, I mean this one definitely means a lot.”

Kacey is nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year, as well as Song and Music Video of the Year for “Rainbow.” With 15 previous nominations and three wins, she earns a fourth nomination in Song of the Year. She last won the category in 2014 with “Follow Your Arrow.” “Rainbow” is also Kacey’s third nomination for Music Video. She says she became a part of the country music community when she won her first CMA Award. “I got Best New Artist in 2013 and that was crazy because it had just been a lot of hard work from me and my whole team to get to that point and it’s just like, ‘Okay, here we are. Here we’re going. I’m a part of the country music community. We’re doing this.’”

Kelsea Ballerini, Miranda Lambert and Maren Morris are also nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year.

The 53rd Annual CMA Awards, hosted by Carrie with special co-hosts Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton, will be broadcast live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday (November 13th) at 8pm ET on ABC.
