Darius Rucker to Bring Women’s Collegiate Golf Tournament, Private Concert to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Long Cove Club announces today that, in partnership with Darius Rucker and the University of South Carolina, the inaugural year of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate sponsored by Hargray will be held March 1-4, 2012 at the Long Cove Club golf course on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Top teams from around the country will travel to the island to compete in Long Cove Club for the title. Kicking off the event will be a Darius Rucker concert at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina on March 1 for players, coaches, sponsors and guests. The Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove Club will feature the best players from top universities around the country.

“This will be a signature event on the women’s collegiate schedule,” says Staunton Oppenheimer, Tournament Chair, who goes on to say, “the membership of Long Cove Club is thrilled to play host to these top collegiate teams.” And top teams they are, joining the University of South Carolina will be: the University of Alabama, University of Arkansas, University of Central Florida, University of Georgia, University of North Carolina, University of Tennessee, University of Texas, University of Virginia, USC-Beaufort, Coastal Carolina University, Notre Dame, Texas Christian University, Wake Forest and Vanderbilt. The teams will be housed luxury private vacation homes on Hilton Head Island during their stay, will receive gifts from Polo and Oakley, and will experience a special Darius Rucker concert being held at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina. This is the first of a five year commitment from Darius Rucker, USC and Long Cove Club.

David Loan, General Manager of Long Cove Club states, “We are very appreciative and excited that Darius Rucker and the University of South Carolina have chosen Long Cove Club to host, what promises to be, a very special tournament.” Spectators are welcome during the days of play, which will be March 2, 3 and 4 from 8am to 2pm. “Golf fans should take advantage of seeing some rising stars; these women collegiate players are the best of the best,” says Loan. Many of the recently announced 2012 U.S. Curtis Cup team members will be representing their universities at the tournament.
