Did Eric Church subtly announce some baby news during his concert in Louisville, Kentucky?
Apparently, he did. His team confirms to CMT.com that country’s resident outlaw and his wife Katherine are expecting their second child.
During Thursday’s (Sept. 25) stop of his Outsiders World Tour, Church launched into “Sinners Like Me,” and I couldn’t help but wonder if maybe I’d heard a slight lyric change in the second portion of the song. Where he normally sings, “Give my dad a grandson,” I thought I heard him say instead, “Give my dad another grandson.”
But who could be certain? There was a slight grin from him and applause from the audience, but that was the case all night. Between the volume of the music, cheering and singing along, it was difficult to clearly decipher anything in the arena.
I thought to myself, “Nah, he didn’t. You’re hearing things.” I dismissed it and didn’t think any more about it until a nagging curiosity finally led me to seek out the official lyrics.
It seemed like an unprecedented personal statement for the notoriously private star, but it made sense. Church and his wife already have one son, Boone McCoy, born back in 2011. Rather than speculate and wonder, we reached out for official confirmation and, indeed, Church’s reps confirmed news of another bundle of joy for the singer and his wife.
And although he did sing, “Give my dad another grandson,” the baby’s gender has not officially been confirmed otherwise. Church and his wife were married in 2008 in his native North Carolina.
