Jordan Davis has hit the top of the Mediabase Country chart with his latest smash “Next Thing You Know,” his sixth No. 1.
The Louisiana native wrote the chart topper with Greylan James, Chase McGill and Josh Osborne, and he says he noticed a big reaction soon after the song’s release. “I think even early on, a month or two into releasing it, fans were kind of chanting for it,” recalls Jordan. “I still remember the first night we played it live on the Luke Combs’ tour, I mean immediately all the cell phones come up. That’s a pretty good sign that you have something. I never thought there’d be a song that I would have circled and ready to get to as much as I am when we have ‘Buy Dirt’ at the end of the set, but now this has been a really cool, kind of middle point of the set that we get to, and then you add in the videos that you see on Tik Tok or Instagram of just the way people really kind of grabbed onto this song and put their story to it. ‘Cause you know it is, it’s the progression of life and I think it means even more to me as a dad, and it’s cool to see that connecting with a bunch of parents out there.”
Jordan says it’s been fun watching the rise of “Next Thing You Know” on the country charts. “I’d be lying to say I don’t watch the charts,” he says. “I do keep up with where my songs are at. This one has been one of the quicker moving ones, actually the fastest moving song I’ve ever put out. It’s been cool to watch the rise of it, so I definitely paid a little more attention to this one without being nervous at looking. It’s almost kind of like, you get to open (the chart) up every week and be like, ‘Oh yeah, it’s still moving good.’ I’ve tried to slow down, tried to like not pay too much attention to it, but this one is definitely one that’s been fun to track.”
After a couple of festival dates in early July, the father of three (his wife Kristen just had their third child) re-joins Dierks Bentley on his Gravel & Gold Tour July 8th in Chicago.
