NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Thursday, June 12, 2014) – Country star Josh Turner joins the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History’s celebration of the 200th anniversary of the U.S. national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner,” and the flag that inspired it.
Turner has a special video of his version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” that will be featured on anthemforamerica.si.edu alongside 19 other renditions of the iconic song commissioned by the Smithsonian from artists like Patty Griffin, Valerie June, Phish, Train and more ranging from rock, R&B, bluegrass and country.
“‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ has become one of the most recognizable songs in our country’s history,” shares Turner. “It was inspired by an actual event where our country was attacked, prevailed and our flag was still waving in the aftermath. It outlines what our flag stands for and why that’s so important. It is always an honor to sing it.”
The online initiative accompanies a live Flag Day event in Washington, D.C. with musical performances culminating in Saturday’s 4 p.m. EDT national sing-a-long of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
