Kacey Musgraves has developed an incredible friendship and working relationship with pop superstar Katy Perry (“Firework,” “Roar”). The pair have written a few songs together, they’ll be on tour together later this year, and more recently, it was announced they will be starring in a new installment of the CMT Crossroads series. Kacey couldn’t be “more excited” to collaborate with Katy.
“Since I heard Katy’s music, I have been a major, major fan. I mean, she’s one of my favorite artists, probably of all time,” says Kacey. “I just love all of the whimsical qualities that she has, but at the core, I feel like she’s just truly a songwriter. I think that’s cool, ‘cause I think the songwriting is the most important thing, and also I do love some fireworks myself, a la light-up boots, light-up suits, neon cactus. But Katy heard my music, and she has given it so much light and so much support. It started with ‘Merry Go ‘Round,’ and she brought a lot of people my way, and I was just so thankful for that. She kind of maintained a relationship with me and brought me out to write with her a little bit, and it’s just been a really fun, cool relationship.”
The episode of CMT Crossroads, taping this month in Los Angeles, will air June 13th at 10pm ET on CMT.
Kacey, who picked up the ACM Award for Album of the Year (Same Trailer Different Park) last week, has hit the airwaves with her latest single, “Keep It To Yourself.”

“Since I heard Katy’s music, I have been a major, major fan. I mean, she’s one of my favorite artists, probably of all time. I just, I really respect her. I mean, I just love all of the whimsical qualities that she has, but at the core, I feel like she’s just truly a songwriter. I think that’s cool, ‘cause I think the songwriting is the most important thing, and also I do love some fireworks myself, a la light-up boots, light-up suits, neon cactus. She kind of maintained a relationship with me and brought me out to write with her a little bit, and it’s just been a really fun, cool relationship. And then the opportunity to, not only go on tour with her on her Prismatic World Tour came along, but the amazing Crossroads opportunity, and I could not be more excited.”
