Keith Urban shared some news with his fans on Wednesday (July 19th). He posted a photo of a soundboard and tagged it “Back in the Studio.” He’s started work on the follow-up to his current album, Ripcord, which was released in 2016 and possibly includes a few new strategies of creating music.

Keith, who is currently making his way up to the top of the country charts with his latest single “The Fighter” featuring Carrie Underwood, says making an album for him is a relatively organic process. “[I like to] get in the studio and I want to feel just really enraptured with a song to get in there and figure it out with the band and watch it sort of blossom.” He adds, “After we’ve recorded them all, it seems apparent which ones should make it to the record, which ones should be bonus tracks and figuring out the sequencing.”
Keith will hit the stage in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan Thursday (July 19th) and Twin Lakes, Wisconsin on Friday.

“It always seems to be a fairly organic process; get in the studio and I want to feel just really enraptured with a song to get in there and figure it out with the band and watch it sort of blossom. They don’t always do that and it’s usually very, very quickly that I can tell it’s just not working. But having said that, I don’t always know. That’s why the song has a way of becoming and being a part of it, and after we’ve recorded them all, it seems apparent which ones should make it to the record, which ones should be bonus tracks and figuring out the sequencing.”
