Catie Offerman releases her latest track today, “Get A Dog.” On the heels of Offerman’s debut track “Happyland Trailer Park,” and which has 5.3M streams, and the follow up “Don’t Do It In Texas,” the new song is written by Offerman, Joe Clemmons (Gabby Barrett, Ryan Hurd) and Aaron Eshuis (Cole Swindell, Scotty McCreery) and produced by Dann Huff. The emerging country artist will step into the revered circle at The Grand Ole Opry for her performance debut on Friday, September 2 and she has added new tour dates to her schedule.
“Get A Dog,” which suggests that man’s best friend might be the only friend to a horrible human, was conceived in a writing session after discussing how all the writers had been in relationships with people who just weren’t worth their time.
Finally!! Another one of my favorites is out in the world! Hope you love it as much as I do, and it puts a smile on your face. I’ll let the song do the rest of the talking! Here’s “Get a Dog” y’all! #nationaldogdayhttps://t.co/w3cT3AHrJY pic.twitter.com/fhZCWaIW8M

“This song is for anyone who has ever dated someone who was basically unlovable,” says Offerman. “Not calling, staying out late, coming home drunk, acting crazy – guys and girls are both guilty of it. When we find those people in our lives, instead of trying to fix them, we just need to tell them to hit the road and get a dog – cause that’s the only thing on earth that’ll love them!”
Chorus:
Maybe you should get a dog
Have someone to sleep with
Waits for you at home
After you been drinking
Chases you around
Plays your little games
Let ’s you be a fool
And loves you anyway
If you need someone to run right back to ya
Every time you call
Oh, you should get a dog
Baby, you should get a dog

“So, we wrote this song a couple of years ago now, and I just remember us talking about it in the writing room all the guys and girls out there that just are totally worthless (laughs), that don’t put in the work, that want everything from you but don’t want to give you anything back and they don’t take you on dates and they get drunk and they want to come home and love on ya, and that’s just not going to work. And so, we’re like, man the only thing that’s really capable of loving a person like that that can’t be loved is a dog. So, I’m married now, but if I could tell all those losers back in my past, I’d tell ‘em, ‘Just go get a dog.’”
