The Mercury Nashville band, Boy Named Banjo, releases its latest track today, “Heart in Motion.” The track is the follow-up to last year’s debut major label EP, Circles. Written by band member Barton Davies, Jon Sherwood and Oscar Charles, “Heart in Motion” is produced by Oscar Charles. The Nashville born and raised quintet includes Davies, Ford Garrard, Sam McCullough, Willard Logan and William Reames.
Boy Named Banjo’s music is a fusion of country sound, and notes American Songwriter, the band “continues to push their sonic bounds.” The new track, “Heart in Motion” was written right after the world shut down for Covid, when the band’s first west coast headlining tour was canceled, and they had to travel 34 hours by van back to Nashville on what was the craziest journey ever taken by the group. The entire time, the guys were just wishing they could be home with their loved ones to weather out the storm together. As soon as they got back home to Nashville, the melody and opening line of the chorus, “cause your smile’s about as wide as Texas,” popped into Barton Davies’ head and the next day the song was born with co-writers Jon Sherwood and Oscar Charles. They channeled the feeling of longing for home and put it to the backdrop of the Texas landscape.
“If there’s a single song that embodies our sound, it’s “Heart in Motion.” It combines a lot of elements that we feel are unique to Boy Named Banjo,” says Barton Davies. “The country storytelling, anthemic choruses, three-part harmonies, soaring vocals, and banjo lines all came together on this one. We wanted this song to gradually build in intensity, as we felt the music needed to match the lyrical movement of the song. Lyrically, it’s a different kind of traveling song, where love is the driving force. Its message hits home for all of us – when we’re out on the road, it’s our loved ones back home that inspire us to keep moving.”
