Mickey Guyton releases her brand new EP, Bridges, on Friday. The collection features “Black Like Me,” “What Are You Gonna Tell Her?” and her new single “Heaven Down Here,” written by Mickey along with Gordie Sampson, Josh Kear and Hillary Lindsey. The song, which is a plea to God to help our current world, was written after Mickey witnessed the recent protests outside her door.
“’Heaven Down Here’ is another just really important song for me. I wrote it in my apartment during quarantine after watching all of the protests outside of my door,” says Mickey. “And it’s just been a beautiful response. People feel seen. People feel like they’re heard in these moments. It’s so hard right now. People can’t afford to buy food. People can’t afford to pay their rent. People miss people, and this song kind of really speaks to all of that.”
Mickey is set to perform “What Are You Gonna Tell Her” on next week’s ACM Awards.
