• TRAVIS DENNING SHINES UNDER SOME FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS.

Travis Denning lives, breathes and dies by music, but he also feels the same way about football. He was a huge supporter of his high school football team, so the fact that the “Friday Night Lights” theme would seep into many of his songs is no surprise. He does attribute his love of football to his beloved University of Georgia Bulldogs (or “the Dawgs” as most Georgians would call them).

“The passion I had for high school football all came down to how much I loved the University of Georgia and the Bulldogs. I don’t think a lot of people understand that my first game I went to I was three-years-old. My dad had season tickets my whole life. My grandfather had season tickets, and it’s still probably the biggest part of my life other than country music,” says Travis. “There’s a lot of football, there’s a lot of that Friday Night Lights, that Saturday Night Lights, all that, a lot of that’s in my music, even when I’m not singing about football. I think just that passion and that romance for, man, when those lights come on and the pressure’s on and you’re in the stands – that feeling is in a lot of different spots in my music.”

Travis, who is making his way up the country charts with “David Ashley Parker From Powder Springs,” will hit the road with Lanco beginning October 24th in Columbia, Missouri.

Audio / Travis Denning explains why the theme of Friday Night Lights seeps into his music.

“The passion I had for high school football all came down to how much I loved the University of Georgia and the Bulldogs. I don’t think a lot of people understand that my first game I went to I was three-years-old. My dad had season tickets my whole life. My grandfather had season tickets, and it’s still probably the biggest part of my life other than country music. I’ve been to about 95-100 home games. I love that team, like I love them through everything. It was such a family event too. I mean, Saturdays, I didn’t get to sleep in. I had to wake up at 7:30 and we drove to Athens, set up and tailgating by nine just to make a noon game. But looking back, I would literally never trade those memories for anything because I got to spend time with my folks, my sister and my cousins, and it was such a family affair all around a love for football. There’s a lot of football, there’s a lot of that Friday Night Lights, that Saturday Night Lights, all that, a lot of that’s in my music, even when I’m not singing about football. I think just that passion and that romance for, man, when those lights come on and the pressure’s on and you’re in the stands – that feeling is in a lot of different spots in my music.”

Luke Bryan has scored a second week at the top of the country charts with his latest smash, “Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset.” The song, written by Zach Crowell, Ryan Hurd and Chase McGill, is the follow up to Luke’s 20th career No. 1 single “Most People Are Good,” which held the top spot for three weeks.

“The guys that wrote it, Ryan Hurd and Zack Crowell and Chase McGill, just knocked it out of the park,” says Luke. “You hear that title so much it just sticks with you, and the second verse is something that’s just truly amazing. They painted so many wonderful pictures of youth and young love and thinking about them out there on a boat dock playing music, passing a bottle around. And it’s just one of my favorite songs, one of my most favorite songs I’ve ever recorded.”

  • CARRIE UNDERWOOD SINGS ABOUT HER OWN “KINGDOM” ON THE NEW ALBUM, CRY PRETTY.

Carrie Underwood gets up close and the most personal on her new album, Cry Pretty. One of the songs she wrote and recorded for the album and that speaks straight to her soul is the uplifting, goosebump-inducing and domestically lovely “Kingdom.”

“It ain’t always pretty as a picture
And it ain’t a mansion on a hill
    It’s perfectly imperfect
It’s worth more than it’s worth
It’s our life, it’s our heart, it’s our home
    This is our kingdom”

“I feel like ‘Kingdom’ is just all about the things that make you. I’m from a very small town in Oklahoma. When I sing this song, this is what I think of,” she says. “We had everything that we needed. Everything. We did not have a lot of extras in our lives, and that was, I think, a good thing. But to me when I think, I’m gonna cry, [starts crying] when I think about home it’s the best thing. I’m so glad that I grew up where I grew up with my amazing family and the house that we grew up in that my parents still live at in that tiny town with not a lot to do and not a lot of extras. That is part of me.”

Carrie loves going home to Checotah, Oklahoma and staying with her parents in her childhood home and she recently told CBS Sunday Morning [see link below] that being at home lets her “sleep.” “I feel like this is the only place that my soul can rest,” she said. “It’s just when I come here, I can turn off, and there’s no other place in the world like that…I sleep when I’m here. I mean, I sleep, and I don’t get that anywhere else.”

Catch Carrie on the Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday (September 19th). On September 20th, she will receive her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and will perform at the upcoming iHeart Radio Music Festival on September 22nd in Las Vegas.

“I feel like ‘Kingdom’ is just all about the things that make you. I’m from a very small town in Oklahoma. When I sing this song, this is what I think of. We didn’t have an abundance of fancy stuff. We didn’t live in some giant house or some, I mean there was really nothing to do but we kind of had each other and we were really proud of what we had. My parents worked really hard for everything that they were able to give us, and I respect that so much. Our house wasn’t that special but it’s home. So as a child you – I don’t want to say we were poor. That’s the wrong word because we had everything that we needed. Everything. We did not have a lot of extras in our lives, and that was I think a good thing. But to me when I think, I’m gonna cry, [starts crying] when I think about home it’s the best thing. • CARRIE UNDERWOOD’S “CRY PRETTY” IS A SONG IN WHICH EVERYONE CAN RELATE.

Carrie Underwood is sitting inside the Top 10 with her latest hit, “Cry Pretty,” which she hopes people will connect with on an emotional level.

“I want people to be drawn into ‘Cry Pretty’ from the get-go. The first words of it are ‘I’m Sorry,’ and I feel like those are words that are powerful; they’re two little words, but they kind of suck you in and I want people to be like, ‘Well, why are you sorry?’ and then kind of follow the rest of the musical journey that we go on. I want them to relate to it. I want them to be like, ‘Oh my gosh! This is me. Whatever I’m going through, I can relate to this,’” says Carrie. “By the end of it, I want people to feel, I want them to feel that release. I mean the song just keeps getting bigger and bigger and it’s pretty rocking by the end. So, I want people to listen to it and by the end, just feel like they’ve kind of gotten a little bit of an emotional release just by listening to the song.”

Her album of the same name – Cry Pretty – will be released September 14th. You can catch Carrie co-hosting the CMA Awards with pal Brad Paisley for the 11th time this November.
