  • ERIC PASLAY SAYS STAPLETON RAISED THE ROOF AND RAISED THE BAR AT THE CMA AWARDS.

Eric Paslay was among the many fans in the audience at last week’s CMA Awards talking about the incredible performance by Chris Stapleton and Justin Timberlake. He describes the entire night as “mind-blowingly awesome!”

“I’ve been a fan of Chris Stapleton for years and years, as well as everyone in the country music community in Nashville – just the songs he writes and how many songs he’s on and the songs he sings on in the background of other artists – just all over the radio,” says Eric. “For him to win New Artist, Album and Male Vocalist, it just seemed right with his album, Traveller, that came out this year…I was somehow on the third row in front of Chris Stapleton and Justin Timberlake, and I was like at church. I think the whole room just felt the magic of something changing in country music.”

He also says the performance was not only exciting for the fans, but as musicians, because it raises the level of music being made in town. “It’s exciting for us to go, ‘Let’s raise the bar, let’s raise the bar, let’s raise the bar,’ and just have a fun, an amazing time, because we’re doing this because we love music, and I’m glad it happened with my buddy, Chris Stapleton,” says Eric. “I get a little emotional when someone you’re a huge fan of gets a shout-out like that, because he’s been writing songs and singing songs for empty rooms and half-filled rooms. And he’s never even had a Top 20 as a singer on the radio, yet, he won Male Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year and New Artist of the Year. That’s awesome. That’s great music, and I’m glad that people are speaking up about it.”

Eric – another great musician – is going “High Class” with his latest single, the first release from his forthcoming album due out next year.

“Miranda [Lambert] got up on stage [after] winning CMA Female Vocalist of the Year with a Chris Stapleton T-shirt on bedazzled out – I need to find one of those – dear Lord. And she was like, ‘Justin Timberlake, Chris Stapleton, I’m going home to practice.’ And you know what? That’s exciting for us musicians. It’s exciting for us to go, ‘Let’s raise the bar, let’s raise the bar, let’s raise the bar,’ and just have a fun, an amazing time, because we’re doing this because we love music, and I’m glad it happened with my buddy, Chris Stapleton. • CANAAN SMITH HITS THE ROAD WITH HIS STOMPIN’ GROUNDS TOUR.

Canaan Smith kicked off his own Stompin’ Grounds Tour on Friday (November 6th) in Charlotte, North Carolina. The trek, which features newcomer Russell Dickerson, will hit 11 cities through December 11th.

The title of Canaan’s tour comes from a song on his debut album, Bronco, which was released earlier this year. “‘Stompin’ Grounds’ is a track on the album, and it’s just a song that pays tribute to hometowns across America where your roots are at, being proud of that and the stories that you have from the towns you grew up in,” says the Virginia native. “So, each night I’m going to take those ideals to whatever city I’m in and give people a chance to kind of immerse themselves and recollect and sort of conjure up feelings from their hometowns and make it feel like we came to celebrate their town.”

Canaan, who is making his way up the country charts with “Hole in a Bottle,” will make stops in Nashville on Thursday (November 12th), Greenville, South Carolina Friday (November 13th) and Winston-Salem, North Carolina Saturday (November 14th).

  • CHRIS STAPLETON LANDS AT NO. 1.

Mercury Nashville’s Chris Stapleton released his debut album, Traveller, to overwhelming critical acclaim in May and it is the best-selling first week album by a debut country artist in 2015. Last week 13.6 million viewers tuned in to the 49th Annual CMA Awards and saw the soulful singer in a remarkable on-stage collaboration with superstar and good friend Justin Timberlake. In addition to the performance that Entertainment Weekly called “an unapologetic display of abnormal levels of talent,” Stapleton took home awards for New Artist of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year. This marks the first time in CMA Awards history for a New Artist of the Year winner to also collect Male Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year. Fans can purchase Traveller HERE.

Within hours of Stapleton’s impressive showing, all of his remaining tour dates sold out. With that voice, he does a thing many of his colleagues simply cannot.”

  • ERIC CHURCH FEATURES A NEW FACE FOR HIS NEW ALBUM, MR. MISUNDERSTOOD.

    EC_MM_Cvr_HIres_5x5_WEB

Eric Church sent his surprise Mr. Misunderstood album to his fan club, the Church Choir, on Wednesday. It was unannounced, unexpected and a huge treat for those fans, as well as for radio, who also received the new album.

On the cover is a shot of a young man sitting in front of a chalkboard on which the song titles were written. The boy, 14-year-old McKinley “Mickey” James Smay from Webster, New York, read a short note explaining why he was there. He’s the star of the video for the title track, “Mr. Misunderstood,” and sort of the face for the project itself. The young musician is the son of rock drummer Jason Smay, who also appears in the clip.

In a note sent to fans and distributed to reporters backstage at the CMA Awards, Eric wrote that his son named one of his guitars “Butter Bean,” and that he used the guitar to write the songs on the new album, starting late this summer.  “20 days later, I had 18 songs. 20 days following that, I had 10 recorded. That was 30 days ago. It always takes me time to look for inspiration to make a new album but this time, inspiration came looking for me. Together, we found Mr. Misunderstood. Today, it’s yours.”

    Eric Church’s Mr. Misunderstood Tracklist:
    1. Mr. Misunderstood
    2. Mistress Named Music
    3. Chattanooga Lucy
    4. Mixed Drinks About Feelings
    5. Knives of New Orleans
    6. Round Here Buzz
    7. Kill a Word
    8. Holdin’ My Own
    9. Record Year
    10. Three Year Old

Audio / Backstage at the CMA Awards, McKinley James, the young man who appears on the cover of Eric Church’s new album, Mr. Misunderstood, read a letter backstage to reporters prior to handing out a copy of the album to each reporter, producer and camera person.

The record is called Mr. Misunderstood. It’s out now. I brought you your copies, and yes, I am on the cover. Thank you.”

  • SCOTTY McCREERY RELEASES THE VIDEO FOR HIS LATEST SINGLE, ‘SOUTHERN BELLE.’

Scotty McCreery releases the new video for his latest single, “Southern Belle.”

The clip features Scotty surrounded by cheerleaders and marching band members from all over middle Tennessee, including cheer squads from Belmont University and from Lipscomb University along with the Vanderbilt University Spirit of Gold Marching Band.

“Southern Belle,” which was written by Sean McConnell and Jason Saenz, is the lead single off Scotty’s third studio album due out next year.

Scotty McCreery (Southern Belle video) OC: …excited about it. :36
“This video was fun to make. We did it right here in town in Nashville and brought out the Belmont cheerleaders, Lipscomb, had some Nashville Predators girls come out and join us, had the Vanderbilt band come out and join us, so it was still just kind of college themed for me. It’s kind of the end of college days for me, so kind of reminiscent on that. But really, for me, it was showcasing the strong women — you talk about Southern Belles. Those girls doing all their cheerleading moves, flipping back and forth and tumbling and all that stuff. That’s insane to me to watch. I don’t know how they do it. So athletic, and I just wanted to showcase the strong ladies out there and the strong Southern Belles in the video, so it really came out great. I’m excited about it.”

  • CHRIS STAPLETON ‘TRAVELS’ TO NO. 1 ON THE ALBUM CHART!

Chris Stapleton’s Traveller album climbs to the top of both the Billboard Top 200 and Country Album charts this week. The collection of songs, including his latest single “Nobody to Blame,” “Tennessee Whiskey,” “Traveller” and “Fire Away,” sold more than 177,000 total albums, 153,000 of which were pure album sales. The rest came from the multiple downloads of the single “Tennessee Whiskey,” which he performed during the ceremony, as well as other Traveller singles that have now found renewed interest.

According to Billboard, Traveller, which was just named the CMA Album of the Year, returns to the list after being absent from the chart since September, and initially debuting and peaking at No. 14 in May (It was released on May 5th through Mercury Records). It bounds back in at No. 1 with 177,199 equivalent album units earned in the week ending November 5th (up 6,109 percent from about 3,000 units) according to Nielsen Music. Of the new week’s total unit sum, 153,000 were pure album sales (up 6,412 percent from 2,000).

The lift is most likely due to his stellar performance with superstar Justin Timberlake on last week’s CMA Awards, where they traded vocals on Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey” and JT’s “Drink You Away.” Chris picked up three CMA Awards, including Album, Male Vocalist and New Artist of the Year.

“Tennessee Whiskey” ranks as the second-largest selling digital song of the week (a No. 2 debut on the Digital Songs chart) with 131,000 downloads sold. “ Traveller’s title track also enters at No. 40 with 25,000. Traveller is also the first debut country album to hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in over four years. The last was Clear As Day, by 2011 American Idol winner Scotty McCreery, which debuted atop the list in 2011.

Carrie Underwood’s Storyteller came in at No. 2, followed by Eric Church’s surprise release, Mr. Misunderstood, which sold more than 76,000 copies in less than two days.

Chris Stapleton (Traveller album) OC: …journey, I think. :22
“It’s a collection of songs that’s as old as my songwriting career is, so it’s probably 12 or 13 years worth of songs. The song Traveller itself came when I was driving through the desert in an old jeep, and I was thinking a lot about life and how we’re all just kind of passing through it. It’s more about that than an actual physical journey, I think.”
