Taylor originally wrote and recorded the song for her mother and surprised her with it on Christmas.
“’The Best Day’ is the song I wrote without telling my mom. I wrote it in the summertime, and I recorded it secretly too, and I had this idea that I wanted to play it for her for Christmas,” Taylor said when it was originally released over a decade ago. “And so when I got the track, I synched up all these home videos from when I was a little kid to go along with the song like a music video. And played it for her on Christmas Eve, and she was crying her eyes out.”
“The Best Day (Taylor’s version)” is from the re-recorded version of her Fearless album, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200.
Audio / Back in 2008, Taylor Swift talked about writing and recording “The Best Day” for her mother, Andrea. In the song, she sings about her childhood, and how her mom and other members of her family served as a refuge for her during tough emotional times.
