The War & Treaty

Welcome to the Church of Love with The War And Treaty! Covering a diverse range of music pallets with their “jaw-dropping harmonies” (American Songwriter), the trailblazing husband-and-wife duo expand on their sound that cuts through the whole of Southern music tradition with the release of their milestone album, LOVER’S GAME (Mercury Nashville), out Friday (March 10th). The 10-song collection produced by Dave Cobb proves why the “Nashville couple is as good as it gets” (Music Row) as they offer “stunning vocals and thought-provoking lyrics” (Nashville Lifestyles) that share a unique perspective on shifting cultural and musical tides while pulling back the layers of a maturing relationship.

After receiving their first-ever CMT Music Awards nomination, Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter will showcase why “they are unlike any other act in music” (The Tennessean) when they perform the album’s title-track on the TODAY show Friday (March 10th). Additionally, The War And Treaty will sit-down with CMT Hot 20 Countdown this weekend (3/11 & 3/12 @ 8:00A CT on CMT) as they discuss the authenticity and truth behind LOVER’S GAME. Next week, they will bring their “massive, show-stopping vocals” (Vulture) to multiple performances at SXSW before launching the 35-city trek LOVER’S GAME TOUR on March 19th in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

As “the music world has definitely shown that it’s ready to love The War And Treaty,” (Billboard) LOVER’S GAME has been touted by critics ahead of its release as the duo “keeps soaring past expectations” (Associated Press).

Founded in 2014 by the husband-and-wife duo Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter, The War And Treaty have emerged as one of the most electrifying new acts in American music. With a lionhearted sonic blend – both roaring with passion and tender to the touch, they “are making soul moves that are captivating everyone who sees them,” (HITS Magazine). Earning respect, they’ve gone on to appear as top-flight collaborators, and have been recognized by the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Grand Ole Opry, and the Americana Music Association as 2022 Duo/Group of the Year. With more than 100 shows last year, the duo has dominated stages across the globe including North America, Europe, Italy, Australia, and Ireland, while headlining their own shows and opening for a diverse group of living legends: Al Green, Brandi Carlile, Jason Isbell, John Legend, Lauren Daigle, and Van Morrison among them. As they have created vastly diverse tour opportunities across multiple genres, The War And Treaty will join Chris Stapleton on the All American Road Show Tour this summer. The War And Treaty (Lover’s Game) 1 OC: …was honest. 1:26
TANYA: “We come from so many different places with music. I mean, we love blues, and when you think of country music and people always ask, ‘Why are you signed to a country music label?’ Well, blues, jazz, gospel, all of the things that make up who we are, you know, what we grew up listening to, even Calypso. My mother was Hispanic, so we grew up listening to all different styles of music. And then the Country music genre itself, it really exemplifies the kind of lifestyle that Michael and I have. It’s the one music you can have fun, you can drink a beer, you can talk about your faith, you can have a good time and it encompasses that sound, so you can write about all those things and the storytelling is there as well.” MICHAEL: “But with this album, if you don’t mind me interjecting, I think that the main focus was to let it just pour out of you however it’s gonna come out and intentionally given the sound of our love. Sometimes our love has the heartbreak of a country or a blues song; sometimes our love has the elegance and smokiness of jazz or the sexiness of R&B or the urgency salvation of gospel and Christian. So, we just wanted it to sound the way we felt and that was honest.”

The War And Treaty (Church of The War and Treaty) OC: (Michael) …gift of love. :34
TANYA: “It’s what we say at our shows, you know, ‘Welcome to the Church of The War and Treaty and the message you’re gonna get here is love, love, love, love.’ That’s it. That’s how we introduce them to our shows, every show.” MICHAEL: “That’s our saying, all the time. It’s very important that you remember just how powerful love is, and love is not cliché, no matter how you slice it. Love never goes out of style, love is always in, and what we all need now is love and so this record is Tanya and I’s gift of love.”
