Tyler Hubbard is closing in on Top 20 on the country charts with his debut solo single, “5 Foot 9.” In the chorus of the song, he namechecks one of country music’s biggest superstars, Tim McGraw.
God makes five foot nine, brown eyes, and a sundress
Loves Tim McGraw and a small town accent
Ain’t no way that me and this truck made her fall in love
Jack makes good whiskey but God makes the good stuff
Oh, God makes the good stuff
Since he calls out Tim and has mad respect for the singer-actor, he wanted to send the song to him before it was released.
“He was a huge impact on my music and my career. A big influence,” says Tyler. “And also, yeah, I mean, I’ve worked with him recently. I’ve really grown to love him and admire and respect who he is and how he handles himself and how he runs his business. And so, yeah, I sent it to him actually a few weeks ago and said, ‘Hey, I just want you to have a heads up. My first single is going to have a shout out to you. And it you know, I want you to hear it first for me, but I highly respect you and what you stand for and who you are and and just want you to know I love you. And this is this is coming out soon.’”
The two collaborated last year on the song “Undivided,” which was written by Tyler and Chris Loocke.
Tyler also recently released the song “35s,” which is from his upcoming solo project.
