KEITH URBAN WILL GIVE SOME OF HIS OLDER SONGS A FRESH COAT OF PAINT ON HIS UPCOMING RIPCORD WORLD TOUR.

Keith Urban is preparing to launch his upcoming ripCord World Tour Thursday (June 2nd) in Kansas City, Missouri, and he’s planning on a heavy dose of hits and new songs from his latest album, Ripcord.

“I wanted to obviously bring in some of the older songs that we haven’t done in a while, because we retire a lot of songs from certain tours, but I’m always aware that X-amount of people want to hear some of those songs. So, I wanted to sort of see if there was a way we could give them a fresh coat of paint without changing them so much, because I’m also respectful of people wanting to be able to sing along,” says Keith. “Sometimes [when] I go see artists play and when they do some of their older hits, they sing them in a way in which it seems like they’re obligated to do and they don’t want to do it and that sort of thing, and then they start changing the melody and no one can sing along. So, I’ve never been a fan of that, but also recognize that for us we’ve done the song a million times, so how can we change it so it’s fresh and new for us, but not too different for everybody out front? Hopefully, we’ve done that with things like ‘[Where the] Blacktop [Ends]’ by bringing in the Ralph Stanley sample and a few things like that.”

Keith’s ripCord World Tour, which also features Brett Eldredge and Maren Morris, launches Thursday (June 2nd) in Kansas City, Missouri.

MEMORIAL DAY 2016

Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the fallen Union soldiers of the Civil War. However, by the turn of the 20th century, Memorial Day celebrated Americans who have sacrificed their lives in all wars. The holiday also typically marks the start of the summer vacation season.

Some of your favorite country artists talk about what it means to be free because of the brave men and women willing to fight and sacrifice for our freedom.

Audio / Dierks Bentley, whose own father was a World War II veteran, talks about the sacrifices made by U.S. servicemen and women.

Dierks (Memorial Day) OC: …upon them. :37
“On the most basic level, I think, for me on the road, I just think about being gone two, three days at a time, maybe a couple of weeks at a time, you know. That seems like a long time when you have kids and family, but these soldiers, they’re gone for months and years at a time – they’re doing 12 to 15 to 18 months — and they have family back home. That, in itself, is such a huge sacrifice, and that’s just the beginning of it. That’s just scratching the surface of what these guys [and gals] are doing every day – preparing for battle, actually being in battle, being wounded in battle, sometimes dying in battle. So, this country obviously, we would not exist without those courageous men and women, and our future depends upon them.”

Audio / Eric Church, whose grandfathers served in World War II, says the sacrifices the men and women in the military make are really touching.

Download

Eric Church (grandfathers in WW2) OC: …touching to me. :21
“Both of my grandfathers were World War II veterans. I mean, that’s something that’s very rare. I’m not unique, you know. There’s a lot of people out there like that that their grandfathers served. The way that I was raised was very much red, white and blue and very patriotic, and I think that it’s the fact that what they give up is the real thing that’s very touching to me.”

Audio / Keith Urban wrote and recorded “For You” a few years ago for the film, Act of Valor, which was inspired by real life events and stars a group of active-duty Navy SEALs. After hanging out with the SEALS, he was very impressed with their commitment of service.

Download

Keith Urban (SEALS mantra) OC: …conviction. :30
“They have a mantra, and they say ‘the only easy day was yesterday’ and they had this spirit of brotherhood and that’s a particular thing that’s the way in which, I think, it exists is very specific to the Seals. I mean, military in general have this very strong brotherhood code; it’s a particular kind of thing in the Seals. As was the testament, to Lt. Roark who is the lead guy in the film; when he was interviewed talked about funerals he had been to, and he says ‘there isn’t really any one of us who isn’t just a little bit jealous of the guy who’s died,’ and ok, I heard that, that’s a particular way of being that I cannot relate to. That is an unbelievable depth of commitment and conviction.”

Audio / Sam Hunt talks about his grandfather who served during World War II.

Download

Sam Hunt (Memorial Day) OC: …those freedoms. :40
“My granddad was in World World II. He was on the USS Texas battleship, and he was over at Normandy and over near Japan and he spent a lot of time right in the thick of World War II. He really took pride in what that meant, and it was something I got to see it first hand, as somebody who got to experience that; somebody who had that galvanized American trait. It’s hard to describe it. It was just somebody who’s been through that, seen that and really appreciates what that means. I try to channel that into my life, because I haven’t fought in any war, but I have a ton of respect for folks who have, folks who’ve sacrificed, families who’ve lost lives and just sacrificed years of their own lives and time and effort to maintain those freedoms.”

KEITH URBAN KICKS OFF NEW ALBUM AND NEW TOUR WITH ‘GONE TOMORROW HERE TODAY.’

Keith Urban has been in rehearsals in Nashville this week for his upcoming ripCord World Tour, kicking off next week. He’ll include several songs from his new album, Ripcord, which is spending a second week at the top of the Billboard country album chart. He said during a private rehearsal event on Wednesday that he’s still trying to figure out how to include about nine of the songs from the new record into the set.

He’ll start his shows with “Gone Tomorrow Here Today,” which is also the first song from his new album, Ripcord. “When we wrote ‘Gone Tomorrow Here Today,’ I not only felt like that was the perfect song to start a record, I felt like it was the perfect song to start a tour, as well,” says Keith. “It’s just my own personal love for the things that I like about it, which is the fusion of the ganjo – which is such a crucial part of my sound, but it’s presented in a way that I have not done before. The melodic structure of that riff is not like anything in any of my other songs, but the sound is very familiar. I like that sense of having something that is very familiar to everybody, but then do a twist on it…It hopefully has enough familiarity to pull you along, yeah, to pull you along for the journey as well. So, it seemed again like a good opening track for the show.”

Keith’s ripCord World Tour, which also features Brett Eldredge and Maren Morris, launches June 2nd in Kansas City, Missouri. He’ll play a bunch of amphitheaters and will include a second satellite stage located on the lawn.

Audio / Keith Urban says there's a good reason he chose "Gone Tomorrow Here Today" as the first song on his new record Ripcord, as well as the first song to start his shows

Keith Urban (first song on record and in show) OC: …live, right? [laughs] :5
“For me, when we wrote ‘Gone Tomorrow Here Today,’ I not only felt like that was the perfect song to start a record, I felt like it was the perfect song to start a tour, as well. It’s just my own personal love for the things that I like about it, which is the fusion of the ganjo – which is such a crucial part of my sound, but it’s presented in a way that I have not done before. The melodic structure of that riff is not like anything in any of my other songs, but the sound is very familiar. I like that sense of having something that is very familiar to everybody, but then do a twist on it. So, for me when the rhythm kicks in, it’s a whole different thing, but it’s got a trance kind of energy to it. The reason that I wanted it at the beginning of the record is because I felt like it was planting a flag. It hopefully has enough familiarity to pull you along, yeah, to pull you along for the journey as well. So, it seemed again like a good opening track for the show. We’ll see what happens live, right? [laughs]

DIERKS BENTLEY RELEASES HIS NEW SINGLE, ‘DIFFERENT FOR GIRLS,’ FEATURING ELLE KING.

Dierks Bentley has released his new single, “Different for Girls,” which features Elle King. It’s the follow-up to his two-week No. 1 single, “Somewhere on a Beach” – both of which are from his new album, Black, which is available beginning tomorrow (Friday, May 27th).

“There is a real honesty in these lyrics, and I haven’t heard a song written this way before. The differences in how guys and girls deal with a broken heart is really interesting material to me,” says Dierks. “Having two daughters certainly has changed the way I see the world and what they have ahead. What I love about Elle being on this record, besides her uniquely powerful but vulnerable voice, is that she’s a total badass. Having her perspective really helps tell the complete story.”

“When I got the call that Dierks wanted me to sing with him I was very honored, but I get a little shy when I’m asked to sing other people’s songs – let alone a duet with one of the biggest Country stars in the world,” added King. “Our voices blended really well together. Since I often write from the male perspective, I was really excited to be a part of someone else’s story that is jumping outside of the norm for a relationship song. The lyrics are really smart and I love that he is bringing a lot of attitude to modern country music.”

Dierks is set to perform the multi-week No. 1 smash “Somewhere On A Beach” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon tonight (May 26th) on NBC, before taking over Rockefeller Plaza as part of TODAY’s Summer Concert Series on BLACK Friday (May 27th at 7:00A ET/CT on NBC). The multi-Platinum singer/songwriter continues the celebration with CMT’s Instant Jam Takeover Weekend, as he co-hosts the Hot 20 Countdown (May 28th at 10:00A CT on CMT) episode from his 2016 SOMEWHERE ON A BEACH TOUR followed by the premiere of his surprise Instant Jam (May 28th at 8:00P CT on CMT) concert special from Knoxville, TN. Audio / Dierks Bentley talks about having Elle King sing on the song, “Different For Girls” on his new album, Black.

Dierks Bentley (Elle King) OC: …new place. :36
“Well, I love Elle King’s voice. I mean she has such a unique voice, and you never know if her voice is going to blend with your voice. I didn’t found out until I went down to the studio in Austin, and right away it was just a really natural sounding blend. Her voice just lifted up this song. The lyrics of this song are pretty strong and her voice on this particular song really takes the song to a whole other level. I really wanted to find a way for her not to just be background vocals. I wanted to find a way to really get her included in the song, so I gave her the second verse and made the song more of a conversation as opposed to just background vocals. And it really, it just took the song to a whole new place.”

Audio / Elle King talks about the song “Different for Girls,” and how much she enjoyed singing with Dierks Bentley.

Elle King (Different for Girls) OC: …song with him. 1:08
“The song itself, it’s an interesting take on a breakup or relationship song. I don’t know if this is why Dierks wanted me to sing on it, you know, besides just my voice, I think I take a really interesting writing approach with my songs about breakups, and I write often from the male perspective. And this song is really thinking about how different men and women are through a breakup, and so I was really excited to be a part of someone else’s song that’s kind of jumping outside the norm of a breakup song or a relationship song. I think it’s got a sweetness to it. The lyrics of this song are really smart, so I thought that it was kind of just a good fit, and I really do want to break out in the country world, because I love country music, not just because I play the banjo. I love country music, and I really love that he’s bringing like a lot of attitude, and I think comedy, to modern country. So, I was really excited to sing this song with him.”

Elle King (Dierks’ song) OC: …instantly. :34
“I get really, really shy when I am asked to sing other people’s songs, let alone a duet with one of the biggest country stars in the world. And so I obviously said yes. I went in and I was so, so, so nervous, and I tried to learn the song as much as I could. I went in and he came in with a couple of people on his team, and he was literally the sweetest person ever, and I felt the song was really, really good. And so I was so excited, very, very nervous, but he made me feel very at ease instantly.”

Dierks Bentley (Memorial Day Weekend Beach Bash) OC: …be fun. :37
“‘Somewhere on a Beach’ has been a huge song for us. Gosh, the crowd is just going crazy on that song. So, yeah, the album’s coming out Memorial Day Weekend, and so we’re gonna throw a big party on the beach down in Florida. It’s gonna be crazy. It’s gonna be absolutely crazy.  I’m so excited. It feels like summer already. Some of the touring I’ve been doing, people are already excited for it, but when it’s Memorial Weekend, that’s the official start and people just go crazy. So, to have that song be doing what it’s doing right now and just our tour, what it’s been doing over the last few years, it’s really reaching new heights. So, I can’t imagine this beach party that we’re throwing is not going to be just off the charts. It’s gonna be fun.”
