KEITH URBAN ENJOYED LOOSE ATMOSPHERE IN THE STUDIO WITH MIRANDA LAMBERT. (AUDIO)

Keith Urban is poised to hit the top of the country charts with his latest hit, “We Were Us,” a duet with Miranda Lambert. The two approached the song in a very laid-back manner, and actually made the engineers a bit nervous when they finished. “At the end, I wanted us to just vamp a little bit on the outro, just ad lib things and be in the moment. I said ‘Is it cool if we just both stand at the same mic and sing?’ And she was like, ‘Yea.’ So, we put the head phones on and stood at one mic and just sang, and that’s what’s on the record,” says Keith. “The engineers afterwards were complaining that they couldn’t change our voice levels [laughs], but I went, ‘It is what it is, whatever levels they are is what it is.’”

Keith is currently on his Light the Fuse 2013 Tour, which makes stops in Pennsylvania, Virginia and Ohio this weekend.

Keith Urban (We Were Us-Miranda) 2 OC: …what it is. :40
“Miranda was so loose in the studio in doing the song together, at the end I wanted us to just vamp a little bit on the outro, just ad lib things and be in the moment. I said ‘Is it cool if we just both stand at the same mic and sing?’ And she was like, ‘Yea.’ So, we put the head phones on and stood at one mic and just sang, and that’s what’s on the record. I love the fact that, that’s the kind of record she makes, don’t overthink it, just get out there and sing. The engineers afterwards were complaining that they couldn’t change our voice levels [laughs], but I went, ‘It is what it is, whatever levels they are is what it is.’”
