KEITH URBAN PREFERS “COMING HOME” TO HIS FAMILY.

Keith Urban

Keith Urban’s latest single, “Coming Home” featuring Julia Michaels, is closing in on the top of the country charts, and the song resonates with his fans, many of whom can’t just drop everything and go home to be around their families and friends for a few days. Keith felt that same way when he packed up and left Australia for the bright lights of Nashville to pursue a long-held dream.

“I moved to Nashville 26 years ago, ‘cause this is where I wanted to live since I was little kid, and it was a magical city for me. I was dreaming of being here, I loved being here, but it was really tough as well,” says Keith. “There was plenty of times I wished I could get in my car and go home for the weekend and just be around my family, and I couldn’t that, so that feeling’s always stayed with me. And the difference between phoning home or texting or face-timing, as Julia [Michaels] says in the bridge, ‘I know it’s only one call away/but it’s not the same.’”

He feels the same way today about his own family, which includes wife Nicole Kidman and their daughters Sunday (Sunny) and Faith, and a phone call or Facetime just won’t suffice.

Keith, who recently released his Graffiti U album, is currently on tour. The Graffiti U Tour just played Detroit and Pittsburgh and is headed to Saratoga Springs, New York on Wednesday (June 27th), followed by a two-night stand in Toronto, Ontario on Friday (June 29th and 30th).

Keith Urban (Nashville and Coming Home) OC: …not the same. :50
“When I heard that rolling guitar sample in the chord structure that we came up with, that chorus just fell out in kind of almost a stream of consciousness. I looked at it and thought, ‘Oh, this is a song about coming home. [laughs] This is a song about…’ For me, I moved to Nashville 26 years ago, ‘cause this is where I wanted to live since I was little kid, and it was a magical city for me. I was dreaming of being here, I loved being here, but it was really tough as well. There was plenty of times I wished I could get in my car and go home for the weekend and just be around my family, and I couldn’t that, so that feeling’s always stayed with me. And the difference between phoning home or texting or facetiming, as Julia [Michaels] says in the bridge, ‘I know it’s only one call away/but it’s not the same.’”
