Lady Antebellum’s first Christmas special, On This Winter’s Night, on Wednesday night (December 5th) on GAC. The trio shot the special on Monday night (December 3rd) at Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center, and performed holiday favorites, which are featured on their new Christmas album, On This Winter’s Night, including “A Holly Jolly Christmas,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” “Blue Christmas,” “The First Noel,” “Christmas Baby,” “Silent Night,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “Silver Bells,” “Let It Snow,” and “This Christmas,” in addition to the original “On This Winter’s Night.” Hillary, Charles and Dave will share personal Christmas memories and the trio will be joined by students from Nashville’s W.O. Smith Music School. The special will also re-air on December 6th and 8th.

Sidenote: Most of Dave Haywood‘s family, including his 91-year-old grandfather who made his first trip to Nashville, were in the audience for the show.

The band is also featured in the CMA Country Christmas special on December 20th at 9pm ET on ABC, than again on Dec. 22nd and Dec. 23rd!

Lady A’s Hillary Scott says they’d hear from the fans constantly about a live DVD. “We would have people ask us all the time, whether it was in the meet-&-greet or on Twitter or on Facebook, like ‘When are y’all doing a live DVD? When are y’all doing it?,’” she says. “And so, we have a video camera with us everywhere, like kind of video-diaried our entire career up to this point.”

Charles Kelley says it’s also a way to get folks to “test-drive” a Lady A show. “I think it was a way to maybe even selfishly just try to promote future shows and say, ‘Guys, come check us out if you’ve ever wondered if you’d be into it,’” he explains. “Well, you can almost test-drive it; test-drive a Lady A show before you come watch.”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Award-winning county star Darius Rucker heads to the west coast this week to appear on NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 11:35 p.m. ET.  Rucker will perform “True Believers,” the title track and lead single off Rucker’s forthcoming 2013 release.

Gary Allan is giving away a free download of his new hit single “Every Storm (Runs Out Of Rain)” as an incentive for fans to donate to the Red Cross.

NASHVILLE – During a press conference to announce their new global charity initiative LadyAID™, Lady Antebellum was surprised today when CMA Chief Executive Officer Steve Moore presented the group with the CMA International Artist Achievement Award.

Formerly the International Touring Artist Award, the CMA International Artist Achievement Award recognizes outstanding achievement by a U.S.-based artist who contributes to the awareness and development of Country Music outside the United States.

“We’re so honored,” said Hillary Scott. “This year especially, being able to take our tour to Europe and then to Australia, and meet even more of our fans all over the world, and to take Country Music that far, we don’t take that lightly. We really, truly do want to make this town and the Country Music community proud when we go overseas and perform.”

“We wish Lady Antebellum much success as they help children around the world,” said Moore. “And it is because of their work around the globe as ambassadors of Country Music that we are presenting them with the International Artist Award.”

Lady Antebellum has sold more than 11 million albums worldwide. Their “Own the Night World Tour” staged performances in 11 countries for more than one million fans including sold out shows in Dublin, London, Toronto, and three-nights at the famed Sydney Opera House. Nashville, TN – Dec. 3, 2012 – GRAMMY winning trio Lady Antebellum announced today their new charitable initiative called LadyAID™, a philanthropic effort created to bring awareness to and generate support for children in need locally, nationally and globally.

The multi-level organization will reach children across the state of Tennessee through grants to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®.  On a national level, Lady Aid is supporting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and on a global level, myLIFEspeaks and The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR). The LadyAID™ Fund is a component fund of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, who will help the band with the facilitation of their charity.

“The opportunity to play music on stages all around the world has given us so much happiness,” said Lady A’s Dave Haywood. “By establishing LadyAID™, we’re going to be able to put a new focus on accomplishing an off-stage goal we have as a band, which is to help children in need.”

“There are children all over the world who are suffering because they don’t have the resources to get the help they need,” added Hillary Scott. “My heart has specifically been lead to the children of Haiti.  By partnering with organizations like UNHCR and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, we’ve already seen children be given access to medical care they wouldn’t otherwise have in their country.  It’s so inspiring, and anything we can do to help that cause, we’re going to do.”

“We’ve witnessed firsthand what these organizations are doing to help kids and their families. LadyAID™ will be funded by donations and fundraising efforts including the trio’s inaugural PING PONG & SONGS event.  Inspired by a combination of the band’s favorite backstage hobby and their love of songwriting, the event will be held in early 2013.

Gary Allan offers a story of hope in the video for his new single, Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain). And the country singer hopes to use the video, premiering exclusively at USA TODAY, to encourage fans to donate to the Red Cross for victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Allan was supposed to play Atlantic City the weekend the hurricane hit. “Obviously, that got canceled,” he says. “Two weeks later, we shot the video, and it all seemed to make sense.”

Allan wrote Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain) with Matt Warren and Hillary Lindsey, who sings harmony on the track and is part of Allan’s band in the video. “She’s one of the most creative people I’ve ever been around,” Allan says.

The initial idea, though, came from Warren. “He was weedeating and a rock banked off his Weed Eater, hit him in the forehead and he ended up cut,” Allan says. “He said he kept thinking, ‘Every storm runs out of rain,’ so he wrote it down and brought it over.”

Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain) is the first single from Allan’s forthcoming Set You Free album, due next year. The single is one of four tracks Allan produced himself. Mark Wright produced four additional tracks, as did Jay Joyce, known for his work with Eric Church and Little Big Town.

“Instead of doing it all at once, we recorded it over a year and a half,” says Allan, who released his last album, Get Off on the Pain, in 2010. “Doing it in small batches will probably be my new way to cut. When you cut 10 or 12 songs, you end up with a couple of album cuts. But nobody wanted the album cuts; everybody was competing for the single with their songs.”

With three members, Lady Antebellum have quite a few Christmas traditions. While Dave Haywood’s family was making the Christmas candy, Divinity (which is made up mainly of Karo syrup and sugar, Charles Kelley’s family was enjoying homemade apple cider. “My mom always made it and she’d put all these spices [in], and it’s one of those things that always reminds me of Christmas,” says Charles. “My mom also used to make baked apples too, which I don’t know what our obsession is with apples, but apparently, we’re Christmas and apples.”

Lady A’s Hillary Scott says her family has a tradition every year of visiting with friends. “A really close family friend of ours, that we’ve been best friends with since I was a little baby, they have a big party on the 23rd of December – every year,” she explains. “And there’s always some fun theme, and we get together and sing Christmas carols, and there’s always a rendition of ‘[Tender] Tennessee Christmas’ every year. It was just such a huge part of growing up, and it’s something that I continue to do every year to this day.”

Dave Haywood says that one of family Christmas traditions always included a taking a test. “My dad on Christmas Eve, he would actually read The Christmas Story. Very predictable, I know, but after The Christmas Story, he would always give his famous Christmas test,” says Dave. “And he would have this long test and he would ask us about the Three Wisemen… the entire Christmas story. “I think a big family tradition for us is actually making this Christmas candy called Divinity. It’s a mixture of Karo syrup and sugar; it’s just a super sugar treat.  But we make it every year, and my aunt makes it too, and everybody shares it with all of our relatives. You can make part of it with pecans and parts with walnuts and all kinds of crazy things. For us, it was a lot of food around the Haywood household.”
