CARRIE UNDERWOOD IS HONORED BY BMI.

1e31c1c7003933ba0868d33f_576x416
Carrie Underwood was honored at the 69th annual BMI/NAB Dinner held this week at the Wynn Encore in Las Vegas. Carrie was recognized with the BMI Board of Directors Award for the impact her music has had on the broadcast industry, as well as her many contributions as a songwriter. With her string of radio hits, groundbreaking videos and television performances, Underwood was the ideal recipient of the BMI/NAB honor.
In addition, BMI took the opportunity to present Underwood with the latest three of her 14 career BMI songwriting awards for “Heartbeat,” “Little Toy Guns,” and “Smoke Break.” These awards are traditionally given out at BMI’s Country Awards Dinner in November, which Underwood was unable to attend due to her hosting preparation for the CMA Awards.  She was also presented with nine BMI “Million-Air” Certificates, which are acknowledgements of songs that have achieved one million or more spins on radio. Underwood now has a career total of 14 BMI “Million-Air” certificates. (Full list below)
Hosted annually by the BMI Board of Directors, the annual NAB dinner salutes the Directors of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and celebrates the longstanding partnership between the songwriting community and the broadcast industry.
Mike O’Neill, BMI’s President and CEO, spoke to the room of industry heavy-hitters about Underwood’s impressive career and commented that, “Not every superstar is a songwriter, but Carrie is. She has earned the respect of her colleagues, not only for her singing, but also for her brilliant songwriting and storytelling, and that is an accomplishment that cannot be overstated.”
In accepting the award, Underwood remarked, “I am beyond blessed to get to do what I do, and am grateful that I am surrounded by such incredible people. I love the people that I get to work with — it’s a joy, a pleasure, and a privilege. Thank you so much BMI for everything that you have done for me and my music.” After her remarks, Underwood performed several songs from her impressive repertoire including “Two Black Cadillacs,” “So Small,” “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” and “Smoke Break.”
Past recipients of the BMI/NAB honor include Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Graham Nash, Paul Simon, Carlos Santana, and John Williams, among others.
Carrie Underwood emerged from the promise of her 2005 American Idol win to become a true multi-format, multi-media superstar, spanning achievements in music, television, and film. A seven-time GRAMMY® Award winner, she has amassed over 100 major honors, sold 64 million records worldwide, and recorded 25 #1 singles, 13 of which she co-wrote, with a catalog of songs that have been streamed more than 2.6 billion times worldwide. The first female artist to be twice named the Academy of Country Music’s Entertainer of the Year, Underwood was recognized by Pollstar as the top female country touring artist for each of her headlining tours in 2008, 2010, 2012, and for 2016’s “The Storyteller Tour – Stories in the Round.” Underwood also topped Billboard’s Top 25 Tours of 2016 as the leading female country artist and was the leading female artist on Country Aircheck’s top country radio performers list for her success in both 2015 and 2016. All five studio albums, Some Hearts, Carnival Ride, Play On, Blown Away and Storyteller – are certified Platinum or multi-Platinum, and each an American Music Awards winner as Favorite Country Album – and tallied an incredible 40 weeks at #1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart.  The RIAA’s highest certified country album artist to debut this century, Underwood also holds the distinction of the highest album certification of any country artist to emerge since 2000 with the 8x Multi-Platinum success of her 2005 debut, Some Hearts.  She is the all-time Top Country Artist (male or female) on RIAA’s Digital Single Ranking, also placing her among the Top 5 females in the history of RIAA’s Digital Single Program across all genres.  In December of 2014, she released her Platinum-certified Greatest Hits: Decade #1, which produced two new #1 hits co-written by Underwood, including the RIAA-Platinum, GRAMMY-winning “Something in the Water.” 2016 marked Underwood’s fourth season as the voice of primetime television’s #1 program, Sunday Night Football, and in November, she returned for a ninth consecutive year as co-host of the CMA Awards. The Grand Ole Opry member also demonstrated her diversity in 2013, starring as Maria von Trapp in NBC’s three-hour holiday blockbuster, the Emmy®-winning The Sound of Music Live!, whose airings attracted 44 million viewers. The reigning CMA Female Vocalist of the Year, Underwood recently claimed her fourth win in the category amid the ongoing success of her chart-topping fifth studio album, Storyteller – the only country album to launch to Platinum certification since the time of its release in October of 2015.
**   Underwood received the nine Million-Air Certificates for the following songs:  “Cowboy Casanova” (2 million plays),  “Last Name” (2 million), “Undo It” (2 million), “Heartbeat” (1 million), “ Little Toy Guns” (1 million), “See You Again” (1 million), “Smoke Break” (1 million),  “Something in the Water” (1 million), and “Two Black Cadillacs” (1 million). She has already received “Million-Air” Awards for the following songs: “All American Girl” (2 million), “Good Girl” (1 million), “Mama’s Song” (1 million), “So Small” (1 million), and “Temporary Home” (1 million).

DIERKS BENTLEY IS EXCITED TO WITNESS THE NASHVILLE PREDATORS IN THE STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS.

Longtime hockey fan, and especially a fan of the Nashville Predators, Dierks Bentley couldn’t be more thrilled that the NHL team is heading into Round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the St. Louis Blues Wednesday night (April 26th). Dierks was in attendance with thousands of Preds fans — including Vince Gill, Luke Bryan who sang the National Anthem and Carrie Underwood, who’s married to Preds captain Mike Fisher – when they won Round 1 against the Chicago Blackhawks 4-0.

“Nashville is just on fire right now, and what I think is so cool about the Predators is it’s a young team, [and] the energy in that building [Bridgestone Arena] is just, this energy of youthful exuberance, excitement, you know? Nothing against Chicago or teams we’ve played before or will play, but we’re an expansion team and it wasn’t that long ago when even the players were donating salary and money to buy tickets to keep the team here,” says Dierks.

“Just to watch the team grow over the last five, six years and even when we’re playing a team like the Blackhawks, it used to be half and half – red jerseys and gold jerseys. It’s all gold. It’s all hardcore Predators fans, and to move on now to the [St. Louis] Blues and with every game they win, it just grows more, hockey just grows more and more exciting in this town. More people come check it out. You know, we’ve got the greatest location for an arena right there downtown. It’s just so fun to be part of that energy and this moment for the Preds. So, hopefully, they can keep it going on. It feels like they’re really got a good thing going.”

Dierks has been a hockey fan for a very long time, even suiting up to play pick-up games or practice with professional teams before his shows, as well as playing in the NHL All-Star game last year. He has even been part of a local Nashville hockey team named the Iceholes.

The Arizona native is closing in on the Top 5 on the country charts with his latest single, “Black,” the title track of his current album.

LITTLE BIG TOWN ANNOUNCES NEW ‘BOONDOCKS’ MERCHANDISE LINE AT THE GRAND OLE OPRY.

The new line, named after the band’s 2005 hit “Boondocks,” features branded clothing, glassware, note cards, leather products, jewelry, fashion and much more, and is available at the Opry Store.

LBT (Boondocks collection) OC: …authentic selves. :31
“When we wrote this song, we were at a place in our musical journey and as a band that we wanted to speak about our life and who we were, and that really was kind of a defining moment for us and for our confidence level and for our…when we were taking our music, we had just been dropped from a major label, and we were like, we’re gonna make the music, we want to say who we are, and that was the song. That was the first one we had success with too. It took us to the party, so it’s definitely our authentic selves.”

LBT (Boondocks collection) 2 OC: …beautiful things. :52
‘Boondocks’ made the perfect thing to launch kind of a lifestyle collection. There are some fashion pieces. There’s things that we love. I mean our days start, because we have babies, with a cup of coffee, and because we have babies, it ends with a glass of wine. [laughs] Yeah, and so all of that in-between from things that are fashionable that we love, like the jewelry and the jackets, to the journals because we’re songwriters and…” PHILLIP: “To the water bottles that can serve as water bottles or keep your wine chilled…” KAREN: “And all the things in-between. But that’s the reason, ‘Boondocks’ was kind of the kick-starter, like Phillip said, to bringing us to the party, so it was the perfect correlation for us to show the fans how we live our lives and through really beautiful things.”

GLOBAL SUPERSTAR SHANIA TWAIN ANNOUNCES HER NEW SINGLE, ‘LIFE’S ABOUT TO GET GOOD,’ TO BE RELEASED IN JUNE.

Shania Twain

Shania Twain revealed new music news when making an appearance last night on NBC’s The Voice. While Shania served as a first-time-ever fifth judge on the hit show and a key advisor to the contestants, fans learned Shania’s “Life’s About to Get Good” is scheduled to hit country airwaves this June and her first album in 15 years is due out this September.

When writing “Life’s About to Get Good,” Shania explains, “I was at home looking out at the ocean and I said to myself, ‘Here I am stuck in this past of negativity, but it’s so beautiful out. I’m not in the mood to write a ‘feeling-sorry-for-myself’ song.” The songwriter recognized that with all of the negative in life also comes the positive. “You can’t have the good without the bad. And that’s what the song ended up being about.”

Shania, who recently appeared as a guest on CBS’ The Late Late Show with James Corden, plans to debut her new single during her headlining set at this Saturday night in Indio, Calif. at Stagecoach Festival, one of the nation’s most prominent country music festivals.

Shania is a five-time GRAMMY Award-winner and the reigning Queen of Country Pop. With more than 75 million albums sold worldwide and U.S. sales topping 34.5 million, Shania remains the top-selling female country artist of all time. Shania’s albums include her Platinum-selling 1993 debut, Shania Twain; the GRAMMY Award-winning, Double Diamond-selling 1995 release, The Woman in Me; Come On Over, the best-selling studio album in Soundscan history by a female artist in any genre and the best-selling country album of all time with over 40 million units sold worldwide; and UP!, Shania’s third consecutive Diamond-selling album release.

Recognizing her indelible impact and achievements in music, Shania is the first and only female to receive CMT’s Artist of a Lifetime Award. Shania also recently received the Icon Award at Billboard’s Women in Music ceremony. Shania’s hits include “Any Man of Mine,” “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” “You’re Still the One” and “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!”

DARIUS RUCKER GOES UNDERCOVER TO FIND NEW TALENT.

Darius Rucker goes “undercover” as sort of a famous talent scout to discover new talent for an upcoming episode of the popular television show, Undercover Boss. He traveled to Austin, Texas on an undercover journey to discover the next great musical acts. While he’s in disguise, Darius runs an open mic night, works as a roadie and strolls along Austin’s famous Sixth Street in search of standout street performers

Darius really enjoyed his time on the show. “The Undercover Boss experience was amazing. To have to spend three hours in a chair getting makeup on every morning and go out and be somebody else was so much fun,” says Darius. “The people I got to meet and become friends with and got to hang out with are now friends of mine, and I got to help them take a little step further in their careers, that was awesome. No one really recognized me. One guy at the beginning when we do the first thing, he didn’t recognize me, but he recognized that maybe I had a disguise on, so we had to change it up a little bit. But it was a fun, the whole week was fun doing that and just being somebody else for a little while.”

The episode of Undercover Boss featuring Darius will premiere May 12th at 8pm ET on CBS.

The South Carolina native is currently making his way up the country charts with his latest single, “If I Told You.”

SAM HUNT’S ‘BODY LIKE A BACK ROAD’ TOPS THE BILLBOARD COUNTRY CHART.

Sam Hunt’s “Body Like a Back Road” is a monster hit! The song climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Country Airplay Chart in just 12 weeks and is continuing to engage folks who streamed it nearly 12-million times last week. If you’re wondering how he came up with the song, he says the phrase “Body Like a Back Road” came first. The Georgia native wrote the song with his producer Zach Crowell and his songwriter friends Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne and the song seemed to just fall out.

“I try to think of titles or lines that’ll cross my mind and I’ll put ‘em in my phone, and this was one that I wanted to write for a while – the title ‘Body Like a Back Road’ – or use it as a lyric, do something with it. I didn’t have a melody, but one night this melody got stuck in my head and the phrase ‘Body Like a Back Road’ sang perfectly to it and the chorus came out pretty quick. And then we went in and started working on the song with the producer and a couple of writing buddies, and I wanted to write it because I thought it was a fun song

“Body Like a Back Road” is the first release from his as-yet-to-be-titled forthcoming album.

In the song, he sings about going “15 in a 30,” which is what he named his upcoming tour. The trek, featuring Maren Morris, Chris Janson and Ryan Follese, will kick off June 1st in Cleveland, Ohio.

Audio / Sam Hunt says his smash hit, “Body Like a Back Road,” all began with a phrase before anything else.

Sam Hunt (Body Like a Back Road started with a phrase) OC: …enjoyed it. 1:04
“You know, I try to think of titles or lines that’ll cross my mind and I’ll put ‘em in my phone, and this was one that I wanted to write for a while – the title ‘Body Like a Back Road’ – or use it as a lyric, do something with it. I didn’t have a melody, but one night this melody got stuck in my head and the phrase ‘Body Like a Back Road’ sang perfectly to it and the chorus came out pretty quick. And then we went in and started working on the song with the producer and a couple of writing buddies, and I wanted to write it because I thought it was a fun song, but I didn’t know for sure if I wanted to put it out. I didn’t want it to come across as objectifying women or be too, to lack depth and just, I don’t know. So, anyway, I had some concerns, but I tried to make it fun to offset any risks of those things happening, which made writing it fun, and I think that came across in the lyric and in the way we recorded it and everything else. When we finally finished it, it finally hit me as ‘Ok. Wait a minute. Maybe I underestimated the potential of this song. I think this could be a fun song and it will connect with folks.’ So, at that point, I was excited to put it out and fortunately folks have enjoyed it.”
