“The one thing that I think country music fans and certainly singers, I think what we all really can appreciate and think about a lot about is the soldiers and their families. I mean, on the most basic level, I think, for me on the road, I just think about being gone two, three days at a time, maybe a couple weeks at a time. That seems like a long time when you have kids and family, but these soldiers, they’re gone for months, years at a time. They’re doing 12 to 15 to 18 months deployments. Four deployments in, they have family back home. That in itself is such a huge sacrifice and that’s just the beginning of it. That’s just scratching the surface of what these guys are doing every day. Preparing for battle, actually being in battle, being wounded in battle, sometimes dying in battle. And so this country obviously would not exist without those courageous men and women and our future depends upon them. And I think what’s great about Veterans Day and the Wounded Warriors Project was just something we’re working very closely with is it’s not just about their hurrah, hurrah, troops, we support you guys, and it’s about the long term, hurrah. It’s about being there for them, being here for them when they come back and helping them come back. Certainly the guys have been wounded, coming back to uncertain times in their lives as far as their health goes, as far as reconnecting with their family goes, and finding a job. It’s just really uncertain for them when they come back to this country. So… I think Veterans Day, it’s something that happens once a year, but I think in the country community it really is something that we are and need to be thinking about 365 days a year because those folks need us.”

“What I respect and admire is the sacrifice that those guys and girls go through for us to live the way they want to live too. I just think that I’m proud for our format. I’m proud for the music, that that’s something we stand by when not sure other ones do as much. I mean, not that they’re not patriotic, I just think that’s really something that we make a focal point. And just, I’m proud to be involved in that. And again, I’m very thankful for the sacrifice that those… those guys endure and it’s something that’s always been very important to me and always will be.”

“Well, I joined the Army. I spent three years in the service. I had basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana, then went up for AIT in Fort Ben Harrison, Indiana. And then my final duty station was at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. And I spent two and a half years in Hawaii, two years in the Army, and then I stayed there six months after I got out. And so… The last year I was in the Army is when I started singing country music and the general, the post command in general started bands out of military personnel and I got the job as the singer in the country band. And so that’s what I did. I sang country music for the Army.”

“Oh yeah, I feel like last year I finally figured out touring, like figured out how to do it and make the most of it in terms of like making sure to smell the roses, getting up and going to do things in these towns that I’ve been through over the years, but not really fully experienced. So I’ve just built off that last year this summer. So yeah, we’ve gone and floated rivers, we’ve gone to museums and parks and found the best breakfast places in different towns, got out on the ocean and fished a few times, and had some late evening hangout where we all circled up and run a fire and had some great conversations. So there are tons of moments and days and nights that I’m gonna definitely remember for a long time.”

“When I first moved, I didn’t know anybody, I didn’t know anything, so I was just like trying to mingle. I was door dashing. I was, I got a job down at FGL House when it was FGL House before. Now it’s Laney’s Bar. But I worked there for a week serving food and I was like, this is not what I moved to Nashville for. So I quit, started door dashing, but a lot of it was just mingling and meeting people. And then two years ago, I was writing every single day because I had my publishing deal at that point, about a year into moving. I signed to Backblocks Music, or Backblocks Publishing, I should say. Yeah, so I was just writing every single day, sometimes even twice a day.”
