• SAM HUNT’S “23” IS INSPIRED BY THE PHRASE “YOU CAN’T MAKE NEW OLD FRIENDS.”

Sam Hunt is poised to enter the top of the country charts with his latest single, “23.” Written by Sam with Shane McAnally, Josh Osborne, and Chris LaCorte, “23” is the first new track from Hunt since last year’s chart-topping album SOUTHSIDE featuring multiple back-to-back No. 1 hits with “Breaking Up Was Easy in the 90’s,” “Kinfolks” and “Hard To Forget.”

Sam says the concept came from an old adage. “The general concept was sorta you can’t make new old friends, so you’re never gonna be exactly who you were at that point in your life, and you experience that version of the other person as well,” he says. “So, there are times in your life when you’re not gonna be able to experience that again with anybody else in the future, but you can appreciate that a little bit, once it comes and goes.”

The Georgia native has a few days off before heading to West Palm Beach for the Sunfest Festival, which also features the Goo Goo Dolls, Colony House and Kidd G, among others.

  • REBA McENTIRE PERFORMS A BEAUTIFUL RENDITION OF “SOMEHOW YOU DO” ON SUNDAY NIGHT’S OSCARS.

Reba McEntire performed the Oscar-nominated song “Somehow You Do” from the movie Four Good Days at the 94th Academy Awards on Sunday night (March 27th). She was accompanied by the show’s all-star band, which included Sheila E., Travis Barker, Kevin Jonas and Robert Glasper.

The film’s co-star Mila Kunis introduced Reba’s performance of the Diane Warren-penned song.

After performing, the cameras panned to the song’s composer first, who mouthed “beautiful,” then cut to her boyfriend, actor Rex Linn who gave two thumbs up to the camera.

This wasn’t her first performance at the Oscars. In 1991, she sang “I’m Checking Out” from the movie Postcards From the Edge, which took place less than two weeks after the plane crash in which several members of her band and crew were killed.

Prior to Sunday night’s show, she chatted with reporters about performing at the Oscars. She explained that a few friends asked if she was excited about her appearance to which she replied that she was feeling a heaviness about the performance on Wednesday before rehearsals (March 23rd).

“I was very emotional about the Oscars because I said yes to the Oscars in ’91, and then the plane crash happened, and then I went ahead and sang the song because I felt Jim Hammon (her road manager who died in the crash) had been talking to me saying, ‘Go do it for us, we’re checked out of this heartbreak hotel.’ So, everybody said, ‘Aren’t you excited, aren’t you excited?’ and I didn’t feel excited. And so, I finally figured it out yesterday, I thought if I got too excited, something could happen, so I said, ‘God, I’m just gonna give it up to you.’ I don’t know why I didn’t when I first felt this hardness or this heaviness in my heart. So, I just said, I’m giving it all up to you, let me have a good time, let me sing it the way I am supposed to sing it, the way you want me to sing it. Your will, not my will. Your way, not my way.’ And it lifted like a hundred pounds off my shoulders. We went to rehearsal, and I had a great time.”

Reba also just released a gospel album, My Chains Are Gone, on Friday (March 25th).

Audio / Reba McEntire said she was pretty emotional about performing at this year's Oscars, her first time since performing in 1991, just days after the plane crash that killed most of her band and crew.

Keith Urban invited some Las Vegas high school students to take a look behind the curtain at his Las Vegas residency at Caesar’s Palace’s Colosseum. Approximately 30 students – all guitar majors – from the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts were able to watch Keith perform several songs, go backstage to witness the production of the show, as well as learn about sound engineering and ask the global superstar questions.

“It’s great to kind of be in that situation to give any answers that might help, but also to hear questions and challenges that they’re going through right now,” Keith exclusively told PEOPLE.

“It was very apparent that this is what I was going to do. I love that I get to play [The Colosseum,] but I’d be doing it if I could just play some bar on the Las Vegas Strip tonight. That’s where I’d be. I’d be doing that,” he added. “But this place is better. This place is amazing.”

Keith, who is sitting inside the Top 10 on the country charts with his latest single “Wild Hearts,” will resume his Vegas residency March 30th, 31st and April 1st before heading across the pond.

  • REBA McENTIRE WILL MAKE HER SECOND APPEARANCE ON THE OSCARS THIS SUNDAY.

Reba McEntire will be performing during Sunday night’s Academy Awards Show. She will sing the Oscar-nominated song “Somehow You Do” from the drama Four Good Days, starring Glenn Close and Mila Kunis. The song was written and composed by Diane Warren, who is nominated for her 13th award in the Best Original Song category at the Oscars this year.

This isn’t Reba’s first performance on the Oscar stage. She first performed on the Oscars less than 10 days after she lost most of her band members in a tragic plane crash. She sang “I’m Checking Out” at the awards in 1991. Meryl Streep sang the song in the film, Postcards From The Edge, and it was nominated for Best Original Song that year. She wasn’t able to perform it on the Oscars because she was very, very pregnant.

“The first time I got to sing on the Oscars, it was right after the plane crash. I sang ‘checking out of this heartbreak hotel for Postcards From the Edge. I’m pretty sure, now correct me if I’m wrong, but I think Meryl Streep was pregnant and could not perform at the Oscars, so they asked me to do it. I almost didn’t do it, because of the plane crash, but I did. I did sing it,” says Reba. “And here we are all these years later, and I’m singing another song by Diane Warren that is so powerful and needed, because it gives hope. If you’ve seen the movie, Four Good Days, it’s such an emotional movie about drug addiction – opioids, oxycontin. So, it’s needed today, and this song gives hope, which we always need. So, I’m very honored that Diane asked me to sing the song, and we are both so thrilled to get nominated.”

The 94th Academy Awards will air live on Sunday (March 27th) beginning at 8pm ET on ABC.

“It’s a refreshing and accomplished pop-country debut album, and an ambitious one too… The sheer scale of some of the album’s choruses – on “My Bar,” “Heels in Hand,” “Wish You Were the Whiskey” and others – recalls the power country of the 1990s and early 2000s, when the genre was taking its cues from arena rock, and when its pop ambitions were unfettered. Nothing about this album is shy.” – The New York Times
