• CARRIE UNDERWOOD MY SAVIOR BROWN BAG INTERVIEW

Seven-time GRAMMY® Award winner Carrie Underwood follows the extraordinary success of her recent Christmas album, My Gift, with an album of gospel hymns, titled My Savior.  The new album will be released on CD and Digital this Friday (March 26th), just prior to the Easter holiday, and on vinyl April 30th.  My Savior is co-produced by Underwood and GRAMMY® Award winner David Garcia, with whom she co-produced her critically acclaimed 2018 album Cry Pretty, her seventh album to be certified Platinum or Multi-Platinum by the RIAA.

My Savior consists of covers of traditional gospel hymns Underwood grew up singing.  Highlights of the album include a duet with CeCe Winans, the best-selling and most-awarded female gospel artist of all time, on the classic hymn, “Great Is Thy Faithfulness.”  Singer/songwriter Bear Rinehart, frontman of the rock band, NEEDTOBREATHE, also makes a special appearance, joining Underwood to sing harmony on another traditional hymn, “Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus.”

Underwood’s co-producer on My Savior, David Garcia, is a multi-platinum selling, four-time GRAMMY® Award-winning record producer and songwriter.  With his early roots in Christian music, over the past decade he has achieved chart-topping success across multiple genres of music with over 20 #1 songs to his credit.  He has twice been named ASCAP’s Christian Music Songwriter of the Year (2015 and 2019), has written three ASCAP Award winners for Christian Music Song of The Year, as well as won nine Dove Awards.

Underwood and Garcia assembled a stellar group of elite Nashville musicians for My Savior, including Southern gospel and harmonica legend Buddy Greene, guitarist and 10-time CMA Musician of the Year Mac McAnally, Southern gospel piano virtuoso Gordon Mote, and frequent Underwood collaborator, singer/songwriter/musician Brett James joining Underwood on harmonies, among many others, to create a unique pastiche of musical styles from classic country to folk, bluegrass, and gospel.

“This is an album I have always wanted to record.  When I set out to choose these songs, I wanted to include the beautiful, familiar hymns I grew up singing in church,” says Underwood.  “There are several songs I have performed in the past, like ‘Softly And Tenderly,’ ‘How Great Thou Art’ and ‘Amazing Grace’ that mean so much to me and I knew immediately we needed to record for the album.  This music shaped who I am as a person and is the foundation of my career as a recording artist.  I feel so blessed to get to share these songs with generations of people who love them as I do, as well as others who might be experiencing them for the first time.”

    My Savior Track List:

    1. Jesus Loves Me (instrumental)
    2. Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus (with Bear Rinehart of NEEDTOBREATHE)
    3. Blessed Assurance

“We wanted to do something special for this album. I think the album itself is very special and I feel like we all need to experience some live music, you know. So, we started thinking about where to perform it and when I think of country music and church and places that are special to me, I think of the Ryman Auditorium. There’s something so special about it. It is an auditorium, but it feels like church, I mean for many reasons. It’s just so beautiful and has such a spiritual feel to it anyway. So, we thought of bringing this album to life and what better day to stream that on than Easter Sunday. So, I’m just very excited. I’m always excited to sing but when you get to do something that’s very intimate and something that feels like home, which again I feel like this whole album feels like home, to do it in a place that feels like home is just going to be extra special.”

I’ve worked with Save the Children in the past and they’ve just been a wonderful organization that does a lot of good things for kids in the world. It’s an honor to get to work with them again and do positive things.”

Audio / CHRIS STAPLETON TALKS ABOUT THE TITLE OF HIS 2015 ALBUM, TRAVELLER.

    Download

Chris Stapleton (title of Traveller) OC: …folks too. :43
“The song ‘Traveller’ and how it ended up being the title of the record, it seemed like a natural thing to call it, because a lot of, certainly the inspiration for this record came from a series of events. It’s kind of the only song that was written inside of, well, there might’ve been one other song written inside of knowing I was going to make this record in this way. The rest of the songs came from outside of that time period. So, that’s one reason to name it that. The other reason is that it can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people. It’s about a journey in a musical sense and in a physical sense and in a spiritual sense. In every way that you can have a journey, this record is kind of that for me, and hopefully for some other folks too.”

  • TRAVIS DENNING REACTS TO ACM AWARD NOMINATION.

Travis Denning seems to be living his best life with a new single, “ABBY,” part of the New Faces Show during this year’s Country Radio Seminar, and also an ACM nomination for New Male Artist of the Year, which is nearly overwhelming to him.

“Absolutely just totally blown away and honored to be nominated for New Male Artist. I’ve always thought that category is such a motivator for a lot of artists, and it definitely is for me. And for someone like the ACM, which is just an amazing organization and they love country music, I’m truly blessed and honored. I mean, this is a cherry on top to an already awesome life and a great career that I’m blessed with, so I’m very excited.”

The show usually takes place in Las Vegas, but due to the global pandemic, last year and this year, the show is being held in Nashville at three separate venues. “I hate that it ain’t gonna be in Vegas, but we’re still gonna have a lot of fun,” says Travis.

The 56th Academy of Country Music Awards, hosted by Keith Urban and Mickey Guyton, will air live from Nashville April 18th beginning at 8pm ET/7pm CT on CBS. The show will also be available to stream live and on demand on the new Paramount+ channel.

  • BROTHERS OSBORNE’S “ALL NIGHT” STARTED WITH A GUITAR RIFF.

Brothers Osborne went into the studio (pre-pandemic) one day to work on their ACM-nominated album, and they were catching up with the musicians when John Osborne started noodling around on his guitar. The riff he was playing sparked an idea for their latest single, “All Night.”

“We were there (in the studio) just chatting, just catching up with each other, and John just starts playing this lick and he had a baritone guitar, and it was badum, badum, badum and he had a baritone guitar, and I was like, ‘Stop! Everybody stop talking! Like that is awesome. Let’s write that right now!’ And we did,” says TJ Osborne. “And that’s like, obviously, that’s my favorite part of the song. It’s like this badass like awesome guitar part. That type of thing is definitely lost on Zoom, but I think being there in the moment, that was like the leading thing that happened.”

The duo is nominated for two ACM Awards, including Duo of the Year, as well as Album of the Year for Skeletons. The 56th Academy of Country Music Awards, hosted by Keith Urban and Mickey Guyton, will air live from Nashville April 18th beginning at 8pm ET/7pm CT on CBS. The show will also be available to stream live and on demand on the new Paramount+ channel.

  • ERIC CHURCH RELEASES “NEVER BREAK HEART,” EARNS 3 ACM NOMS.

For 10-time GRAMMY nominee and reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year Eric Church, the month-long session during which he wrote and recorded a song from start to finish each day was meant to push the limits of creativity and the resulting project, his highly anticipated triple album Heart & Soul set for release this April, proved the unconventional method a success.

What the songwriters and musicians sequestered in rural North Carolina during the early months of 2020 didn’t know, however, was just how drastically the world was about to change. And yet, several songs on the project offer an almost prescient message of resilience and hope that fans are eager to hear amidst the ongoing pandemic. With “Never Break Heart,” out today, February 26, Church delivers that encouragement earnestly:

Don’t let fear steal your brave heart
Don’t let doubt take your faith heart
It’s ok to cry, but don’t never break heart

Church first shared the song nearly a year ago, just two months removed from its creation, when he performed a stripped back version celebrated by Billboard as a “dazzling performance” and by Stereogum as “gracefully growly” on the “ACM Presents: A Salute to Our Country” television special.

“The hardest thing about this for me as a dad, as a husband, as a business leader, as a citizen, has been the unknown. I believe we fear the unknown,” Church shared that evening. “Here’s what I know: I have hope and you should have hope, because since the beginning of time, people have gathered… and we will gather again. The important thing to remember is to not fear, to be brave, and to endure. That’s what this song is about.”

Now, a full year into the pandemic, Church has been recognized for continuing to push creative boundaries and for persistently releasing new music through this unprecedented time, earning nods in the Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year categories at the upcoming ACM Awards, as announced this morning. Church also received a third nomination, in the Music Event of the Year category, for his chart-topping “Does To Me” performance with Luke Combs. He is also a nominee at the upcoming GRAMMY Awards, earning a nod for Best Country Solo Performance with “Stick That In Your Country Song.”

“Never Break Heart” is featured on the Heart album, set for release Friday, April 16. In keeping with his longtime commitment to put fans first, Church created the middle album, &, specifically for the Church Choir and will make it available exclusively to those fans and only as a vinyl record on Tuesday, April 20. Rounding out the trilogy is Soul, available everywhere on Friday, April 23.

    About Eric Church
Reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year and current GRAMMY nominee Eric Church has spent the past year releasing new music at a relentless pace; providing a glimpse into the results of a marathon session during which he spent nearly a month writing and recording a song per day – including current single “Hell of a View” – while sequestered in a rural North Carolina cabin, and fueling speculation of his highly anticipated new three-part project, Heart & Soul, set for release this April.

Just as unique as Church’s approach to recording and releasing music is his tenacity on the road. During his most recent outing, 2019’s Double Down Tour, Church played back-to-back nights of two unique shows in each market sans opening act, giving every city’s fans six-plus hours of his iconic music. The tour also featured a massive stop at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, where he broke the venue’s concert attendance record with more than 56,000 fans in attendance and became the first artist to sell out the venue with a solo lineup. Church also recently took to the field at Tampa Bay’s Raymond James Stadium to perform the National Anthem with R&B star Jazmine Sullivan ahead of Super Bowl LV.

A seven-time ACM Award winner, four-time CMA Award winner, and 10-time GRAMMY nominee, Church has amassed a passionate fanbase around the globe known as the Church Choir as well as a critically acclaimed catalog of music. His most recent album, Desperate Man, earned a GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Album (his third nod in the category) and produced his most recent No. 1 hit, “Some Of It.” Previous releases include the Platinum-certified Sinners Like Me (“How ’Bout You,” “Guys Like Me”), Carolina (“Smoke a Little Smoke,” “Love Your Love the Most”) and Mr. Misunderstood (“Record Year,” “Round Here Buzz”), the Double-Platinum certified The Outsiders (“Like a Wrecking Ball,” “Talladega”) and the 3x Platinum-certified Chief (“Springsteen,” “Drink In My Hand”)as well as 22 Gold, Platinum and multi-Platinum certified singles.
