• CANAAN SMITH MAKES HIS FOOTBALL PICK!

Canaan Smith will be paying some attention to the NFL playoffs this weekend, more so to the second game on Sunday (January 18th) than the first one, since his hometown team, the Indianapolis Colts are taking on the New England Patriots.

“I was born in Indiana, so I got to favor the Colts, just because of the hometown connection there,” says Canaan. “So, I’m going to go with the Colts for the Super Bowl.” He does, however, hope the Tennessee Titans (his adopted hometown team) have a better season coming up than they did with the 2-14 record they had this past year.

Canaan admits he’s more of a college football fan, and he was rooting for the Ohio State Buckeyes to pull out a win, especially since his wife, Christie, graduated from OSU. “My wife (Christie) is from Ohio. She went to Ohio State, so I married into the Buckeye tradition,” he says. “We were watching the Championship the other night, and we were jumping off the couch with excitement.”

Canaan is currently making his way up the country charts with his single, “Love You Like That,” from his forthcoming album, due out later this year.

Audio / Canaan Smith says he’ll pull for the Indianapolis Colts over the New England Patriots on Sunday (January 18th), and he says they’ll take the Super Bowl, as well.

“I was born in Indiana, so I got to favor the Colts, just because of the hometown connection there. But, I wish the [Tennessee] Titans would get it together, because I’d love to be able to stand behind the Titans, and I still do, but it’s just not their year. So, I’m going to go with the Colts for the Super Bowl.

Audio / Canaan Smith says he and his wife were very excited about Ohio State University’s win over the Oregon Ducks on Monday (January 12th).

Canaan Smith (OSU Championship game) OC: …pretty awesome. :31
“My wife (Christie) is from Ohio. She went to Ohio State, so I married into the Buckeye tradition. We were watching the Championship the other night, and we were jumping off the couch with excitement. Cardale Jones, that being his third game ever, was just mind-blowing. He’s definitely NFL bound. Ezekiel Elliott just crushed it. It was just cool to see people perform under pressure. That’s what I have to do every night on stage and getting to see collegiate athletes doing what they do and being their best when it counts the most is pretty awesome.”

  • Alan Jackson Offers Exclusive Guy Harvey Designed 25th Anniversary Tour T-Shirt To Benefit Ocean Conservation.

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL—JANUARY 13, 2015— An avid boater and fisherman, country star Alan Jackson, and celebrated marine wildlife artist Guy Harvey, have collaborated on a message behind the music to raise money and awareness for ocean conservation and research.
Harvey, known for his colorful and highly popular depictions of marine wildlife and support for science and research, has created a colorful logo to commemorate Jackson’s 25th Anniversary Tour, which kicked off this past weekend in southwest Florida. The logo, depicting Jackson in a fishing fighting chair with leaping sport fish, will adorn several Official 25th Anniversary merchandise items including an official Tour T-Shirt which will be sold at each concert date, as well as other 25th Anniversary items that will be available exclusively at www.guyharvey.com.

Alan Jackson and Guy Harvey have agreed to donate back $5 for every item sold to marine conservation through the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation, a non-profit that advocates sustainable fishing practices, funds inspired scientific research and supports innovation educational programs.  Last year, Harvey’s foundation distributed approximately $1 million to more than 60 organizations involved in research and education.

“We are honored to work with Alan, who as responsible fisherman, clearly understands and supports our mission to conserve our marine environment and resources for future generations,” said Harvey, who has a Ph.D in Fisheries Biology.

Jackson, who has sold over 60 million records worldwide, registering 50 Top 10 hits and 35 Number One hits, got into offshore fishing 25 years ago.

“I’ve fished everywhere most people do, including the Bahamas, off Florida in the Keys, Mexico and the Virgin Islands,” the Grammy Award winning singer, songwriter and musician told The Boot.

Jackson’s 25th Anniversary Tour is an extension of the already year-long 25th anniversary celebration.  KEEPIN’ IT COUNTRY TOUR will make stops over the coming months in Los Angeles, San Diego, Dallas, Phoenix and Nashville, to name a few, wrapping for the spring with a show at the famed Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver (Morrison), CO on May 17, 2015.  For tour dates go to www.alanjackson.com.

Harvey is also popular with country fans having attended several regional concerts for guest appearances to spread his message, and has created an interactive Conservation Village, which has served as the centerpiece for Fort Lauderdale, Florida’s Tortuga Music Festival, which promotes ocean conservation.

  • MICKEY GUYTON’S HARD ‘WORK’ PAYS OFF AS HER DEBUT SINGLE HITS RADIO.

Newcomer Mickey Guyton hits radio with her debut single, “Better Than You Left Me,” on Monday, nearly three years after signing her record deal with Capitol Nashville. It hasn’t been roses and riches for the Texas native in those three years, since she’s been working on her album and working another job to pay the bills.

Mickey says people think once you sign a record deal, money isn’t a problem anymore. That isn’t the case. “I got my record deal, and it was my saving grace,” recalls Mickey. “It felt like I wouldn’t have to worry about money, and I was just going to focus on my album, and it’s just not the case. Your bills still have to be paid. You still have things happen where you have to fork out a whole bunch of money, where you’re like, ‘Well, there that goes!’ Once I moved to Nashville, got my record deal and was focusing on my music, and then I realized my money was running out…So, I drove my little self over to Nordstrom and got a job in the lingerie department. So, Monday through Thursday, I wrote, and then Friday, Saturday and Sunday, I worked.”

“I look back at some of my pictures and I had lost so much weight because I wasn’t even able to eat, because I was constantly on the go,” Mickey adds. “You do have to make a living for yourself. I know other artists who’ve had to do that or who got their car repo’d because they couldn’t pay their bills, because it’s really truly so hard. You never know when your money’s coming in, but it makes you a stronger person, and it makes being in this room talking about my life that much sweeter.”

Mickey just made her debut on the Grand Ole Opry (at the Ryman Auditorium), and she declared it, “Hands down, one of the best moments of my life.”

Church returned to the road last week with powerhouse performances in New Orleans, LA (1/8), Tupelo, MS (1/9), and Nashville, TN (1/10) where his audience of 18,411 fans set a new event attendance record for the Bridgestone Arena. Catch him this week in Oklahoma City, OK (1/14), Las Vegas (1/16 and 1/17), and San Diego (1/18).
Church’s current album, The Outsiders, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart and theBillboard Country Albums Chart earlier this year, featuring his No. 1 hit “Give Me Back My Hometown” and his current single “Talladega.” The Outsiders is the follow-up to Church’s Platinum-certified album Chief, (named the 2012 Album of the Year by both CMA and ACM, and GRAMMY-nominated for Best Country Album) which featured five Top 20 singles: “Homeboy” (certified Platinum for sales in excess of one million singles); the Top 10 “Like Jesus Does” and the Top 5 “Creepin’” (both certified Gold for sales in excess of 500,000 singles each); and two No. 1 hits “Drink in My Hand” (certified Platinum) and “Springsteen” (certified Double Platinum for sales in excess of two million singles). Church’s 2006 debut album, Sinners Like Me (2006) and his sophomore album Carolina (2009) are both RIAA Gold-certified. Carolina had three hit singles: the Top 10 “Hell on the Heart” as well as Top 20 hit “Smoke A Little Smoke” and Top 10 smash “Love Your Love The Most,” which were both certified Gold. Sinners Like Me spawned three Top 20 singles: “How ‘Bout You,” “Two Pink Lines,” and “Guys Like Me.”
    Brothers Osborne
Two sons from a working class family, John and TJ Osborne grew up in a small, Maryland water town. They spent most nights not in front of the television, but writing and playing songs for friends and family in their father’s shed. John (guitar) moved to Nashville first to play in other bands and two years later, TJ (vocals/guitar) joined him. It was then they formed Brothers Osborne and in April 2011 they signed with Warner Chappell/King Pen Music for publishing followed by a deal with Capitol Records a year later. Their blue-collar rural Maryland upbringing still informs the music they make as a twang-and-crunch duo that blends equal parts country and rock into one of the freshest, most identifiable sounds to come out of Nashville in recent years. Their latest single “Rum” was named one of the top country songs of 2014 byBillboard as well as Rolling Stone and Nashville Lifestyles recently named them one of the Top 25 Artists to Watch in 2015. They are currently in the studio finishing their debut album set to release in 2015.
    Drive-By Truckers
Rolling Stone called the Drive-By Truckers “the boldest ‘n’ baddest Southern band in the land.” Throughout their twelve highly acclaimed albums, the Truckers have surveyed the modern South with a complex blend of realism-tempered pride and compassionate but uncompromising analysis. Their latest album, English Oceans, finds the group refreshed and firing on all cylinders. Both Mike Cooley and Patterson Hood penned songs independently that dovetailed brilliantly with each other on English Oceans, originating in a truly collaborative effort that the band has never utilized before. The album was recorded with a compact, retooled lineup. Jay Gonzalez, who joined the band in 2008 as keyboardist, stepped into an expanded role by adding guitar to his duties, while bassist Matt Patton was drafted from the Tuscaloosa group The Dexateens. The band hit the road non stop in 2014 and brought their live show to an all new level which was recently recorded over three nights at The Fillmore in San Francisco and will be released as a live album in 2015.
    JD McPherson
JD McPherson’s new single, “Let The Good Times Roll,” premiered recently at The Wall Street Journal and can now be heard/shared via SoundCloud. The song is the title track to McPherson’s highly anticipated new album, which will be released February 10 on Rounder Records. Already receiving widespread critical acclaim, the album was recently included in World Café’s 2015 Music Preview. Of the music, Ann Powers praises, “There are people who imitate and people who work within that genre…that become original. And I really think that JD is doing that with his band…” This new music follows McPherson’s widely praised 2012 debut, Signs and Signifiers, which resulted in McPherson’s selection as a Rolling Stone “Artist to Watch,” an NPR Music “Artist You Should Know” and a WXPN “Artist to Watch.” He was also awarded “Best Rock/Hard Rock Album” at the 2012 Independent Music Awards.
    The Cadillac Three
The Cadillac Three is a high-energy trio who describes their sound as “country fuzz.” Composed of three Nashville natives – Jaren Johnston (Guitar & Lead Vocals), Kelby Ray (Bass Steel Guitar, Dobro, Acoustic & Vocals) and Neil Mason (Drums, Percussion & Vocals) – all three guys have weathered wild adventures as a country group with a rockin’ edge. They have opened for acts like ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Eric Church and Eli Young Band. Johnston is known for penning Keith Urban’s No. 1 smash “You Gonna Fly,” two new cuts on Tim McGraw’s latest record Two Lanes of Freedom, and several other tunes for acts like Kenny Chesney, Jake Owen, Sara Evans and Dierks Bentley.
    The Lone Bellow
Then Came the Morning, the second album by the Southern-born, Brooklyn-based indie-folk trio The Lone Bellow due out Jan. 27, opens with a crest of churchly piano, a patter of drums, and a fanfare of voices harmonizing like a sunrise. It’s a powerful introduction, enormous and overwhelming, as Zach Williams, Brian Elmquist, and Kanene Pipkin testify mightily to life’s great struggles and joys, heralding the morning that dispels the dark night. Working with producer Aaron Dessner of the National, the Lone Bellow has created a sound that mixes folk sincerity, gospel fervor, even heavy metal thunder, but the heart of the band is harmony: three voices united in a lone bellow. Then Came the Morning is the follow-up to the group’s critically-acclaimed, self-titled debut album which was released in 2013.

  • SCOTTY McCREERY RELEASES A STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF HIS GRANDFATHER.

Scotty McCreery‘s paternal grandfather, William James McCreery, passed away over the weekend. Below find a statement from Scotty on his passing.

“I am sad to share my Granddad, Bill McCreery, passed away unexpectedly last Sunday. He had celebrated his 86th birthday just two days earlier. My Granddad was a hard worker who spent 20 years in the US Air Force Strategic Air Command and 10 more years working for the US Civil Service at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine. He lived life to the fullest, was good-natured and had a hearty laugh. He was totally devoted to my Grandmother Paquita for 57 years. Together, they raised three children and were inspirations for their six grandchildren. He was one amazing guy who drove a black mustang convertible and could still dive off his diving board in his backyard pool.  As his only grandson, it will be an honor to carry on the family name. Thank you Granddad, for everything, but especially the lessons on love and respect, the golf and diving lessons AND that McCreery deep voice.”

  • LADY ANTEBELLUM’S CHARLES KELLEY WOULDN’T TAKE NO FROM DARIUS RUCKER.

Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley co-wrote Darius Rucker’s latest single, “Homegrown Honey,” withNathan Champman, and it was a writing session that Charles actually pushed for during a round of their favorite sport.

“We were out playing golf, like we always do when he’s in town, and I was gettin’ on to him that we’ve never written before, and he said he was writing for a new record,” recalls Charles. “Literally, I didn’t give him an out. He was having a busy day actually the next day singing vocals, and he was done until like 8 that night. I’m sure he was tuckered out. I said, ‘We have to make this a priority and write,’ and sure enough, came up with what I think is a great song, and it’s his first single [from the new album], and I’m excited, man. Just to have a little part of a Darius Rucker song is a huge honor.”

“Homegrown Honey” is the lead single from Darius’ forthcoming album, due out later this year.

Lady A’s on the country charts with their latest hit, “Freestyle,” from their 747 album.

Lady A (Darius Homegrown Honey-Charles) OC: …a huge honor. :42
“It’s exciting. You know, Darius Rucker has been a friend of mine now for a while. We’re on the same label, and we actually got to tour with him a couple years ago. We were out playing golf, like we always do when he’s in town, and I was gettin’ on to him that we’ve never written before, and he said he was writing for a new record. Literally, I didn’t give him an out. He was having a busy day actually the next day singing vocals, and he was done until like 8 that night. I’m sure he was tuckered out.
