• CARRIE UNDERWOOD, ALONG WITH RYAN SEACREST, ARE THE PRIMARY AMBASSADORS OF DISNEY AND ABC’S #CHOOSEKINDNESS CAMPAIGN TO HELP END BULLYING.

Throughout the entire month of October, ABC, Freeform and Disney Channel will roll out a series of customized public service announcements (PSAs) with fan favorite stars that call on audiences to end negativity, celebrate their differences, support love and, ultimately, choose kindness. Serving as the primary ambassadors for the campaign are award-winning radio and television personality Ryan Seacrest and seven-time GRAMMY® Award winner, multi-platinum selling, global superstar Carrie Underwood.

Underwood lends her new single “Love Wins,” from her latest album “Cry Pretty,” as an anthem of solidarity throughout Disney|ABC’s month-long campaign. “Cry Pretty,” which Underwood co-produced, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and Top Country Album Charts, and is her first album released on Capitol Records Nashville. “Love Wins” was written by Underwood, David Garcia and Brett James.  A custom PSA, produced by Radio Disney Country and featuring Underwood, has debuted on the Disney Channel and across Radio Disney and Radio Disney Country’s social media platforms and YouTube channels.  Underwood recently received the Hero Award at the 2018 Radio Disney Music Awards recognizing her humanitarian efforts and support of a myriad of charities.

Stars across Disney|ABC Television are rallying behind National Bullying Prevention Month and encouraging viewers to #ChooseKindness through personal testimonials and videos that reinforce the importance of being kind. Along with nonprofit partners GLSEN, GLAAD, PACER, ESPN’s “Shred Hate” campaign, No Bully, and Common Sense Media, the multi-platform and cross-network initiative, now in its sixth year, focuses on inspiring kids, families and change-makers around the country to put an end to bullying in their communities and online.

“The Choose Kindness campaign is incredibly important to our identity as Disney|ABC Television, with storytelling across our series and networks that celebrate inclusion, respect and love,” said David Ambroz, executive director, Corporate Citizenship & Internal Communications. “We’re thrilled that for the sixth year, our talent has stepped up to deliver heartfelt and honest messages that encourage our viewers to accept the challenge of choosing kindness, and that our ongoing partnerships with these nonprofit changemakers continue to make a difference in our communities.”

“We are extremely proud to once again partner with Disney|ABC Television on this year’s #ChooseKindness campaign for National Bullying Prevention Month,” said Eliza Byard, GLSEN executive director. “Their invaluable dedication to this cause within its programming, through its talent and more continues to be an inspiring example for young viewers everywhere. As a national education organization working to create safe and inclusive K-12 schools for LGBTQ youth, GLSEN has seen firsthand what happens when students stand up against bullying – as happened just last week in thousands of schools nationwide during GLSEN’s Ally Week. When young people are encouraged to choose kindness, respect and taught how to be allies for one another, school becomes a safer and more welcoming environment in which all students can fully reach their academic potential.”

In addition to the PSAs, several stars offered honest testimonials of their personal experiences with bullying. From being called names to being teased about their weight to being judged by the color of their skin, these heartfelt videos offer audiences a glimpse into an epidemic that their favorite stars are not immune to, as well as uplifting messages on how to take a stand for those being bullied around them.

Among the stars featured in the videos and photos throughout the month are Kelly Ripa (“Live With Kelly and Ryan”); Taran Killam (“Single Parents”); Leighton Meester (“Single Parents”); James Roday (“A Million Little Things”); Ron Livingston (“A Million Little Things”); Randall Park (“Fresh Off The Boat”); Nathan Fillion (“The Rookie”); Raven-Symoné (“Raven’s Home”); Issac Ryan Brown (“Raven’s Home,” “Kim Possible”);  Sasha Pieterse (“Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists”); Janel Parrish (“Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists”) and many more.

In partnership with GLAAD and PACER, Disney|ABC will also celebrate two key dates in October that call on audiences to show their support and stand against bullying. On Thursday, Oct. 18, GLAAD encourages supporters to wear purple for “Spirit Day” to stand against bullying and demonstrate support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) youth. On Wednesday, Oct. 24, viewers are encouraged to celebrate PACER’s Unity Day. Wear and share orange to show unity against bullying and band together to celebrate for kindness, acceptance and inclusion.

Additional campaigns being celebrated throughout the month of October include GLSEN’s “Ally Week” and ESPN’s “Shred Hate,” a bullying prevention program from ESPN, MLB and X Games which seeks to eliminate bullying by encouraging kids to choose kindness. As part of “Shred Hate,” No Bully, a nonprofit organization that ignites student compassion to eradicate bullying and cyberbullying, is partnering with local school districts and training them how to implement the award-winning No Bully System. To date, more than 25,791 students have been impacted by the program in schools across the country and an additional 60,000 students will be reached in the 2018-2019 school year.

Carrie is set to perform on the American Music Awards which airs on Tuesday (October 9th) beginning at 8pm ET on ABC.

Carrie Underwood (what fans can expect) OC: …ever had before. :39
“I literally meet fan club members and fans at meet and greets and things like that that will say, ‘I voted for you on American Idol. I’ve been a fan club member since it started,’ and that’s absolutely incredible. I feel like we’ve kind of just all grown and evolved together, and I feel like that’s so cool. I hope they listen to this album and maybe get a bigger glimpse of me and who I am because I definitely feel like this project has been a bigger representation of me as a person, as an artist, as a creative being, because I’ve had so much more of a hands-on approach with this album than I’ve ever had before.”

Audio / Carrie Underwood says she learned a lot about herself as a co-producer with David Garcia.

Carrie Underwood (prepping to record a song with David Garcia) OC: …up here, you know? :48
In working as a producer with David, I feel like I learned so much about, obviously making music, but also about myself as an artist, myself as a writer and myself as a vocalist. I feel like previously in my career, I love being technically good. I love to sing. It’s what I love to do, and I take a lot of pride in working hard at being good at what I do. But I would go in with David and it would be time to record, put my vocals down. Like we’re doing this. I’m stepping up to the plate. Here we go. I’m going to hit a grand slam, and in my mind, that’s what I’m thinking. I’m going to sing every note perfectly. I’m going to be great. I’m talking myself up here, you know?”

  • CARRIE UNDERWOOD SINGS ABOUT HER OWN “KINGDOM” ON THE NEW ALBUM, CRY PRETTY.

Carrie Underwood gets up close and the most personal on her new album, Cry Pretty. One of the songs she wrote and recorded for the album and that speaks straight to her soul is the uplifting, goosebump-inducing and domestically lovely “Kingdom.”

“It ain’t always pretty as a picture
And it ain’t a mansion on a hill
    It’s perfectly imperfect
It’s worth more than it’s worth
It’s our life, it’s our heart, it’s our home
    This is our kingdom”

“I feel like ‘Kingdom’ is just all about the things that make you. I’m from a very small town in Oklahoma. When I sing this song, this is what I think of,” she says. “We had everything that we needed. Everything. We did not have a lot of extras in our lives, and that was, I think, a good thing. But to me when I think, I’m gonna cry, [starts crying] when I think about home it’s the best thing. I’m so glad that I grew up where I grew up with my amazing family and the house that we grew up in that my parents still live at in that tiny town with not a lot to do and not a lot of extras. That is part of me.”

Carrie loves going home to Checotah, Oklahoma and staying with her parents in her childhood home and she recently told CBS Sunday Morning [see link below] that being at home lets her “sleep.” “I feel like this is the only place that my soul can rest,” she said. “It’s just when I come here, I can turn off, and there’s no other place in the world like that…I sleep when I’m here. I mean, I sleep, and I don’t get that anywhere else.”

Catch Carrie on the Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday (September 19th). On September 20th, she will receive her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and will perform at the upcoming iHeart Radio Music Festival on September 22nd in Las Vegas.

Carrie Underwood (Kingdom) 2 OC: …part of me. 1:14
“I feel like ‘Kingdom’ is just all about the things that make you. I’m from a very small town in Oklahoma. When I sing this song, this is what I think of. We didn’t have an abundance of fancy stuff. We didn’t live in some giant house or some, I mean there was really nothing to do but we kind of had each other and we were really proud of what we had. My parents worked really hard for everything that they were able to give us, and I respect that so much. Our house wasn’t that special but it’s home. So as a child you – I don’t want to say we were poor. That’s the wrong word because we had everything that we needed. Everything. We did not have a lot of extras in our lives, and that was I think a good thing. But to me when I think, I’m gonna cry, [starts crying] when I think about home it’s the best thing. I’m so glad that I grew up where I grew up with my amazing family and the house that we grew up in that my parents still live at in that tiny town with not a lot to do and not a lot of extras.
