• JOSH TURNER HELPS A FATHER REALIZE HIS DREAM ON THE TODAY SHOW.

To help a father — Lewis Lusk — celebrate Father’s Day, NBC’s TODAY Show surprised him with the gift of recording his own original track at the iconic Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee. And Lusk got a little help from a new friend: country singer Josh Turner.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 18, 2015) – Country superstar Josh Turner teamed up with NBC’s TODAY Show for a very special Father’s Day “Make Your TODAY.” Turner and the TODAY Show set the scene for Tennessee native Lewis Lusk at the famed SUN Studio in Memphis.

Lusk had early dreams of being a country singer, but as life took a different path and he became a single parent and an adoring father of two young boys, he put his family first and his musical aspirations aside.

Lusk’s now grown sons turned to the TODAY Show’s Al Roker to help make their father’s dream come true. After successfully luring Lusk to SUN Studio, where legends like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash recorded some of their biggest hits, Lusk learned he was going to record his very own original song, “Sally & Jack,” with guidance from his new friend, the multi-Platinum-selling Grand Ole Opry member, Josh Turner.

Turner expresses, “It was such a special day for me to get to share this with Lewis. As a father myself, I respect the sacrifices parents make for their children. In this case,” Turner continues, “Lewis put his dreams on a shelf for the sake of his boys, and to have a hand in helping make that dream come true for him here is something I won’t forget.”

  • KACEY MUSGRAVES MAY NOT BE ‘PAGEANT MATERIAL,’ BUT SHE IS A COVER GIRL.

    gallery-1434474721-july-kacey-musgraves

Kacey Musgraves is featured on the cover of the July edition of Redbook magazine and inside, she talks about self-acceptance and how she’s found peace with her own musical path.

When critics are offended by some of her lyrics, such us “roll up a joint/or don’t” from her song, “Follow Your Arrow,” she says, “I’ve come to conclusion that people are always going to find a way to be offended about something, and it’s almost like they want to be. I won’t be everybody’s cup of tea. I’ve found peace in that. I’m cool with not being the biggest superstar on the planet. I don’t let people’s approval make or break what I’m doing.”

Many of her songs talk about self-acceptance, because it comes from some of the kids she grew up with not being able to be themselves. “After high school, my best friend came out to me, and he was like, ‘I don’t feel like I can be myself, and you’re the first person I’m telling,’” says Kacey. “That is still a lot of people’s reality. So if a kid feels like they can walk a little taller because of something I sang, I’m inspired by that.”

Kacey returns with her new album, Pageant Material, on Tuesday (June 23rd).

  • KACEY MUSGRAVES IS JUST A GOOD OL’ ‘DIME STORE COWGIRL.’

Kacey Musgraves’ new album, Pageant Material, is set for release next Tuesday (June 23rd), and one of the songs featured is “Dime Store Cowgirl,” which Kacey co-wrote with Shane McAnally and Luke Laird. The title originates from a real experience Kacey had as a young pre-teen performer back in Texas, but talks about the many career moments she’s had over the last two years.

“I had this title saved for a while. It’s something that someone said to me a long time ago. I was probably 11 or 12, and this stage mom, this certain stage mom of this girl I used to sing with, well, we would wear these really Western outfits and she would like to wear hers down real low, and I like to cock my hat back, my cowboy hat, kind of retro-like, which I still think is really cute today,” says Kacey. “And I was like doing my own thing, and this stage mom came over and she was like, right before we went on stage, she was like, ‘Don’t wear your hat like that! You’re gonna look like some dime store cowgirl.’ So, there’s a song now.”

Kacey will perform a few tracks from her new album when she hits the stage Thursday night in Aspen, Colorado.

Audio / Kacey Musgraves explains how she came up with the song “Dime Store Cowgirl,” which is featured on her new album, Pageant Material, out June 23rd.

Kacey Musgraves (Dime Store Cowgirl) OC: …song now. [laughs] :52
“‘Dime Store Cowgirl’ is the second song on the record. This one’s special to me, because it kind of talks about the last year and a half or two and just everything that I’ve gotten to see and do, and every single thing in the song is true. And it’s really from this like small town girl’s point of view. I had this title saved for a while. It’s something that someone said to me a long time ago. I was probably 11 or 12, and this stage mom, this certain stage mom of this girl I used to sing with, well, we would wear these really Western outfits and she would like to wear hers down real low, and I like to cock my hat back, my cowboy hat, kind of retro-like, which I still think is really cute today. • DIERKS BENTLEY SENDS EMOTIONAL NEW SINGLE, RISER, TO RADIO.

NASHVILLE, TN – June 15, 2015 – There’s a heightened depth in Dierks Bentley‘s vocals on the powerful anthem “Riser,” an increased vulnerability and a greater sense of purpose in every word, every line. The title track of the Multi-PLATINUM singer/songwriter’s CMA, ACM and GRAMMY nominated album RISER (Capitol Records) is being released to radio today.

It’s an everyman quality that underlines Bentley’s performance of the song, giving a voice to the peaks and valleys of life familiar to many Americans. The new single radiates with intensity but is hardly a downer.  It conveys a sense of hope and perseverance, spiked with just the right amount of levity.

“Everything we’ve done for this album has been building to the release of ‘Riser’ as a single,” said Bentley. “It’s the cornerstone of this record, and the lyrics speak to the kind of guy I want to be. It’s about the country fans that I see out in the crowd each night…the sacrifices they make and the hardships that we all have to overcome. It’s for anyone who chooses to be a Riser.”

Bentley’s “finest vocal work ever” (Country Weekly), serves as the perfect exclamation point to his seventh studio album and follows three consecutive No. one hits, “I Hold On,” “Drunk On A Plane” and “Say You Do.” The standout track “reflects not only his standing as one of country music’s most durable acts, but his personal journey as a man” (People).

Bentley first performed the song nationally on CBS’ The Late Show With David Letterman, and his unforgettable performance during the 50th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards was handpicked by Billboard as the night’s best, boldly stating “here’s hoping it’s his next single…and No. 1.” And now, on his new headlining 2015 SOUNDS OF SUMMER TOUR, epic performances have inspired standing ovations and an emotional fan reaction with Rolling Stone noting “’Riser,’gets a spectacular treatment fitting its name and drawing all eyes to Bentley.”

The lyrical power of the song is spreading through social media through personalized lyric cards where fans can choose which line of the song means the most to them and then match an image to make it unique to their own real life experiences. The lyric cards are available at  www.tweematic.com/risercard/.

The 2015 SOUNDS OF SUMMER tour continues this week in St. Louis, MO (6/18), where fans will be able to stream the concert on Yahoo! before he continues on to Chicago’s first-ever Windy City LakeShake (6/19) and Pittsburgh, PA on Saturday. • ERIC CHURCH CELEBRATES WITH FANS DURING A SURPRISE FILLED WEEK.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – (June 15, 2015) – Even by Eric Church’s always-rising expectations, last week was a pretty damn good week.

The acclaimed country rocker known for his blue-collar attitude put in extra work last week with some of his most memorable performances, partied with Church Choir members at a secret party and raised more than $20,000 for his Chief Cares charity fund.

Church capped a week of heartfelt and personal performances on Sunday night at the CMA Music Festival at LP Field where he started his set with Little Feat’s “Sailin’ Shoes” and finished the night with a surprise  performance during Keith Urban’s set of their shared #1, “Raise ‘Em Up.” The Little Feat cover was part tribute to his favorite band and part history lesson for fans who may not know of that seminal rock ‘n’ roll group’s impact on modern country music and Church’s own sound.

“I’m a huge Lowell George fan,” Church said of Little Feat’s late guitarist. “There are two huge influences on my life, The Band and Levon Helm, and Lowell George is my favorite guitar player ever. He’s just my guy. I grew up on those records. To me, musically that’s the DNA of who I am and that’s the DNA currently of what country music should be.”

The week of memorable performances started Wednesday night when the North Carolina native performed his latest single “Like a Wrecking Ball” – a performance that will be immortalized as the music video, premiering on CMT this Wednesday – from 2014’s smash success The Outsiders at the CMT Music Awards before walking across Lower Broadway to Ryman Auditorium for Marty Stuart’s Late Night Jam.

There he played The Band’s “The Weight” for fans and caught everyone by surprise by offering an off-the-cuff cover of Little Big Town’s “Girl Crush” with that quartet’s Karen Fairchild and Phillip Sweet along with special guests Chris and Morgane Stapleton.

“It was when (Stuart) welcomed Eric Church onstage a little after 1:00 a.m. that the evening truly heated up, reenergizing a crowd that had taken their seats hours earlier,” Rolling Stone wrote of the night, noting of “Girl Crush”: “Here was country’s preeminent alpha male singing the year’s most sultry torch song – and the fans hearty enough to still be awake ate it up. Fairchild stepped in to finish the song, balancing Church’s growl with her own purr.”

Then on Friday night, Church pulled another surprise out of his ball cap, opening his own The Outsiders World Tour stop for a record crowd at The Amphitheater at The Wharf in Orange Beach, Alabama. He played an acoustic set for 45 minutes, then brought out his band for his regular show. He then joined Kenny Chesney’s The Big Revival Tour at the Georgia Dome on Saturday night in Atlanta before returning to Nashville with the Atlanta Journal Constitution raving, “Between his clenched fists and grimaces, it was obvious that Church feels every note he sings and plays,” before acknowledging, “Church offers a refreshing blast of originality in a country music market that can get mired in sterility.”

Church also raised money for his own charity, opening “The Outsider’s Joint” pop-up store in East Nashville during the festival. Shoppers had a chance to buy rare and unique items, helping Church raise more than $20,000 for the Chief Cares 501c3 non-profit charity run by Church and wife Katherine. The charity serves more than 2.5 million people around the globe with charitable giving. For more information on Chief Cares Fund, visit http://www.ericchurch.com/chiefcares.

Church will resume The Outsiders World Tour, which has already set five venue attendance records, on June 20 at the Black Diamond Harley-Davidson in Marion, Illinois. For a full list of tour dates, visit www.EricChurch.com.

  • KACEY MUSGRAVES’ ‘FAMILY’ DYNAMIC.

Kacey Musgraves is getting ready to release her sophomore album, Pageant Material, and the subject of one of the songs on the new project, “Family is Family,” should be relatable to just about everybody.

“I just love it, because no matter who you are, what family you’re a part of  — rich, poor, black, white, whatever – family is family. It’s all the same dynamic. Everybody’s got the crazy ones in their family, no matter how much they try to hide it. It’s just the truth, and so yeah, family’s family no matter what,” says Kacey. “That one was just really fun, because we got to sit there and dream up like, and laugh about just all these little nuances that happen in families.”

Pageant Material, which also features “Biscuits,” is set for release Tuesday (June 23rd).

Audio / Kacey Musgraves says “Family is Family” from her new album, Pageant Material, was a fun song to write.

Kacey Musgraves (Family is Family) OC: …it goes, you know? :48
“‘Family is Family’ was a really fun one to write. This one was Josh and Shane – Josh Osborne and Shane McAnally – and I just love it, because no matter who you are, what family you’re a part of  — rich, poor, black, white, whatever – family is family. It’s all the same dynamic. Everybody’s got the crazy ones in their family, no matter how much they try to hide it. It’s just the truth, and so yeah, family’s family no matter what. ‘In church or in prison/you get what you get/and you don’t get to pick ‘em.’ That one was just really fun, because we got to sit there and dream up like, and laugh about just all these little nuances that happen in families, where you don’t talk to someone for a while and then someone dies, and then oh, there they are at the funeral and you reconnect again over some whiskey or whatever, and you’re like, ‘You know, we need to hang out more.’ It’s just the way it goes, you know?”
