Audio / CARRIE UNDERWOOD TALKS ABOUT THE TITLE OF HER FIRST CHRISTMAS ALBUM, MY GIFT.

    Download

Carrie Underwood (My Gift album title) OC: …good title. 1:21
I chose My Gift as an album title. It’s a bit of a story. I wanted something to kind of define this album and me in it. And “Little Drummer Boy” kind of became a cornerstone for this whole project and it does tie back to that story of a little boy not having anything to give Jesus and he gave him what he could, which was his talent, his gift which was given to him by God, his love of music. I always say I like to imagine that he was good at it. He was a good drummer. Had to be. And that’s what he wanted to give to Jesus, which was a gift that was given to him by God. I feel like my gift in my life, which I’m blessed enough to have many gifts that I’m so thankful for, but my heart and my cornerstone is the gift and the love of music. That’s what I get to do. That’s my gift that I get to do when I get on stage or when I record a song that is something for me and I’m so thankful for it. So I want ultimately with this album to give it back to Jesus like the little drummer boy. So, I thought My Gift was a good title.”

Carrie Underwood (Favorite Time of Year) OC: …song collection. :34
“’Favorite Time of Year’ is a song about all of the things that make you smile during Christmas. There’s so much about Christmas that is absolutely wonderful. Obviously, the birth of Jesus, that’s what we’re celebrating, but there’s so many other things too – like the presents, the family, the weather, the decorations – just all those things all wrapped up to make the favoriteist time of year, the favorite of year. So, I love the song because it’s hard to sing it without smiling. It’s hard to listen to it without smiling. I think it’s a perfect edition to the rest of my Christmas song collection.”

  • MICKEY GUYTON WILL RELEASE HER DEBUT ALBUM, REMEMBER HER NAME, ON FRIDAY (SEPTEMBER 24TH).

Mickey Guyton is set to release her debut album, Remember Her Name, tomorrow (September 24th). The title of the 16-song collection that’s been nearly a decade in the making comes from a song she wrote following the tragic killing of Breonna Taylor last year. As she was writing it, Mickey says it also turned into her story.

“’Remember Her Name’ I was really inspired by Breonna Taylor, watching that whole tragedy go down was really hard for me. And anytime you see someone that has been murdered unjustly they’ll say, ‘Remember Her Name,’ ‘Say Their Name,’ ‘Say His Name,’ ‘Say Her Name.’ So, I was inspired by that, and when I was writing this song, it also turned into my story,” says Mickey. “When we first start out in any career that we want, we are so bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and so confident and then life happens and slowly your confidence goes away. And tis song is just reminding you that person, that little girl, that little boy that was in you when you first started is still there and to not forget that person; remember that person, remember that fire that you once had.”

You can catch Mickey on NBC’s Today Show tomorrow, as well as The Tonight Show and The View next week.

Mickey was also named CMT’s “Breakout Artist of the Year” at 2021 “CMT Artists of the Year” celebration airing live October 13th at 8pm ET on CMT.

Audio / Mickey Guyton was first inspired by the tragic murder of Breonna Taylor to write “Remember Her Name,” but as she was writing it, it also turned out to be her story as well.

    Mickey Guyton
is set to release full-length debut album Remember Her Name, on September 24th. The music, grooves, melodies, and lyrics of its 16 songs lay bare the heart of a woman and the life she began to lead once she decided to let her truth set her free. That freedom has been mesmerizingly translated into intimately confessional ballads of piercing power including “What Are You Gonna Tell Her?” and “Black Like Me” and also fizzy ditties like “Rosé” as well as the sultry “Dancing in the Living Room” that remind us that playfulness and passion are necessary partners to reflection. Remember Her Name finds Guyton celebrating her truest voice in ways that will resonate with any listener who has loved, lost, struggled, laughed and lived.

“It’s crazy that the album is a story essentially,” says Guyton of the project that has been both three years and, in some ways, a lifetime in the making.

“I was just writing and writing,” she says. “I didn’t even know what the album meant or what it was going to be, when I was writing these songs. I just started writing songs about my feelings.”

The Texas singer-songwriter understandably had a lot of those having arrived in Nashville a decade ago and been lauded for her powerhouse voice. While some success and accolades followed, including her 2015 hit “Better Than You Left Me,” barriers within the industry seemed insurmountable.

Until one day, she decided to be herself and not the woman Nashville expected her to be. “I had a conversation with my husband three years ago asking him why my career wasn’t really taking off and why it wasn’t working out for me,” recalls Guyton. “He said it was because I was running away from everything that made me different.”

The lightbulb officially clicked on. The positive consequences were almost immediate on every level. Guyton began writing songs that spoke to powerful truths and gained recognition for them, including a Grammy nomination for “Black Like Me,” making her the first black female solo artist to earn a Grammy nomination in a country category. Critical plaudits also poured in from The New York Times, L.A. Times, Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone and more with NPR proclaiming succinctly, “Guyton raises the rafters and distills emotion with impeccable clarity. Her high notes thrill, her nuance in storytelling captivates. A star for our times claims her place.”

You can hear Guyton, who was preparing to be a new mom amidst the maelstrom of 2020, staking that claim on the title track, a triumphant anthem of self-assurance: “Where did you lose the girl with no fear?/Oh, she never left/Take a good look, she’s right in the mirror/Don’t let yourself forget/ Remember the fire/Remember her face…Remember the girl that didn’t let anything get in her way.”

She decided to make that song the title track “to remind all of us, including myself, about the strength we have inside that we don’t always know is there,” says Guyton. “As women, there are so many times where we lose ourselves and our dreams as we’re growing up and living life. This song is about a woman rediscovering herself and what made her strong. That is my life story, discovering my own power, and that felt like the right title for the whole album since it explains all the facets of my story.”

  • ALAN JACKSON RELEASES POWERFUL MUSIC VIDEO FOR “WHERE HAVE YOU GONE.”

Country music superstar Alan Jackson releases a new music video later today – the very special piece created for “Where Have You Gone,” the title track from his acclaimed new album, premiering Thursday evening (September 23rd) at 6:00pm CT – watch HERE.

Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium provides the setting for the Peter Zavadil directed video. Filmed in black-and-white, creating an instantly dramatic and cinematic feel, Jackson can be seen alone on the stage of the Mother Church of Country Music. The Country Music Hall of Famer is surrounded by instruments – a fiddle, steel guitar, banjo, upright bass, acoustic guitar, simple drums – all just waiting to be played.

The lone figure strums his favorite guitar as he sings the mournful lament on the famous stage, his eyes drawn to the light from windows high above the building’s pews. As the song unfolds, Jackson is joined behind the Ryman’s footlights by the ethereal-but-very-real images of bonafide legends who made history on that very same stage: Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Hank Williams and Tammy Wynette.

“This is Alan’s idea…capturing all of this incredible history that’s happened here,” Zavadil shares. “The goal was to make the Ryman as much of a character in this as Alan is the artist onstage,” he adds. “This is a magical place.”

“The song kind of starts out like it’s a lost love,” Jackson says. “I love what I call ‘real country music,’ and I just see it fading away more than I ever have,” he explains. “I just wanted to say that.”

“Where Have You Gone” is just the latest music video by Jackson, who embraced the medium with his debut single and has gone on to create and star in nearly 60 music videos (including such career-defining clips as “Chattahoochee” and “Midnight in Montgomery,” both CMA Video of the Year winners and “Drive (For Daddy Gene),” an ACM Video of the Year). In 2014, the CMT Music Awards recognized Jackson’s unparalleled music video history by presenting him with the inaugural Impact Award.

“Where Have You Gone” – written by Jackson – is the title track from the 2021 album that HITS calls “the quiet superstar’s rebuke to those who would forget the roots of where this music comes from.” American Songwriter notes the project “finds him wielding his poet’s perspective to weave together a masterful love letter to country music,” while Billboard cites Jackson’s “penchant for writing honestly,” adding, “the new album continues that tradition.” Where Have You Gone topped the country album chart upon its debut and became Jackson’s 15th Top 10 on the all-genre Billboard Top 200. It also topped the country charts in the UK, Canada and Australia.

Jackson is set to wrap his 2021 tour schedule with a “hometown concert” Friday, October 8 at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.

    ABOUT ALAN JACKSON:
A member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and an inductee to the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Alan Jackson’s membership among music’s all-time greats is part of a long line of career-defining accolades that include three CMA Entertainer of the Year honors, 30 years of membership in the Grand Ole Opry, a Billboard ranking as one of the Top 10 Country Artists of All-Time, induction to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the Heritage Award as the most-performed country songwriter-artist of ASCAP’s first 100 years.

The man from rural Newnan, GA has sold nearly 60-million albums worldwide, ranks as one of the 10 best-selling male vocalists of all-time (rock, pop and country). He has released more than 60 singles – registering 50 Top Ten hits and 35 #1s (including 26 Billboard chart-toppers). He has earned more than 150 major music industry awards – including 19 Academy of Country Music Awards, 16 Country Music Association Awards, a pair of Grammys and ASCAP’s Founders and Golden Note Awards.

Jackson – one of the most successful and respected singer-songwriters in music – just released his latest album, Where Have You Gone, in May. The 21-track collection, which topped the country album chart, features 15 songs penned solely by the music icon. He’s also the man behind one of Nashville’s most-popular tourist stops, AJ’s Good Time Bar, a four-story honky-tonk in the heart of downtown featuring daily live music and a rooftop view of Music City.

  • JON PARDI HAD A BLAST RECORDING “GETTING OVER HIM” WITH LAUREN ALAINA.

Jon Pardi had a really good time recording “Getting Over Him” with pal Lauren Alaina. He says the song, written by Lauren, Emily Weisband and Paul DiGiovanni, was a blast and feels like they should have some shots.

The pair first sang together when they hosted the ACM Honors show a few years ago and realized they sounded really good together. Since then, they recorded a pair of duets — “Don’t Blame It On Whiskey” on Jon’s Heartache Medication album and “Getting Over Him” on Lauren’s new album, Sitting Pretty On Top Of The World.

“I loved the song. I loved the attitude of it. I love the aspect of girls going out and having a good time and saying basically like, ‘Whatever. This is what it is. We’re gonna have a good time and I’ll see you when I see you,’ basically. It’s a fun thing,” says Jon. “I thought it was a great song for Lauren and to be a part of it was awesome. So, this is our second duet together. It all kinda started from the first ACM honors when we first sang together, like we’re kind of good at singing (LAUREN: “singing together.” Laughs) and also making people laugh and messing up names. But that’s what kind of sparked it on top of our long friendship. But, I think this one’s a lot of fun, ‘cause our other duet ‘Don’t Blame It On Whiskey’ is awesome, but it’s very chill where this is like, ‘Let’s do some shots!’”

Jon is currently sitting around Top 15 on the country charts with his latest single, “Tequila Little Time.”

“I am beyond blown away to see the generational connection between my first single, ‘Strawberry Wine’ and all the fans, young and seasoned,” award-winning country singer-songwriter Carter shares. “Being a part of a song that has become an anthem for the ’90s and beyond is such a blessing and more than I could’ve ever dreamed of. The fans have been the catalyst for the success of ‘Strawberry Wine’ and the whole Shave album because of their connection to the truth and realness behind the songs.

“They lived it — just like I did — and just like all of my collaborators did. It was an honor to re-record two favorites with my fellow female artists who inspire me and who I admire. These new versions are a way of raising a glass to everyone who loves these songs, and to the country radio stations still playing them, and to say thank you. I hope everyone enjoys celebrating 25 years of Did I Shave My Legs For This? as much as I’ve enjoyed putting together these very special releases.”

1997 CMA Single and Song of the Year “Strawberry Wine,” written by Matraca Berg and Gary Harrison, was also nominated for a GRAMMY for Best Country Song, the Academy of Country Music Awards Best Country Song, and the Country Music Radio Awards for Song of the Year. Carter co-wrote the title track “Did I Shave My Legs for This?” with Rhonda Hart.

“Who knew that some girl talk would end up becoming a cultural catchphrase for decades to come? Wow! This song is proof that a genuine, heartfelt message can be delivered with a sense of humor,” she added, “yet stand firm in the conviction to not settle for less in this life. Thanks to all the ladies who have sung this anthem at the top of their lungs and to my record label for letting me boldly title my debut album so memorably.”

Other chart-toppers from Carter’s debut album included “We Danced Anyway” (co-written by Berg and Randy Scruggs), “How Do I Get There” (co-written by Carter and Chris Farren), and “Count Me In” (co-written by Carter and Chuck Jones).

As part of the album’s 25th Anniversary celebration, Carter will perform on the Grand Ole Opry Saturday, October 16th, as part of the Opry’s 4,998th show. To purchase tickets, click HERE
