Lauren Alaina (writing songs for SPOTOTW) OC: …been through. 1:16
“I wrote the whole album during the pandemic. What a crazy time. I was flooded with emotion like the rest of the world, and for the first time in 10 years, I stopped, and I was able to more fully process everything that’s happened over the last ten years, specifically the last two to three years. And I wrote most of the songs in the last six to eight months. And when I went into the studio to record the songs, I had written some of them a month before. I wrote it all in a pretty short amount of time, which is very different than my other projects because I think I wrote Road Less Traveled over like four or five years and I haven’t had a project out in quite a few years. But I really think that this album happened the way that it happened because I was home, and I was able to think about everything that has happened to me and able to process everything that’s happened and get my head wrapped around all of it and write a really raw, emotional, truthful album about everything that I’ve been through.”

Audio / Lauren Alaina says writing songs for her new album, Sitting Pretty On Top Of The World, helped her grow and recognize her growth over the past 10 years.

Lauren Alaina (realized how she’s grown since last album) OC: …in life. :38
“Writing the songs helped me to grow and they also helped me to realize how much I have grown. I’ve been through a lot since I was 16, a lot of life changing events. And this album for me feels like a celebration of all of those things and overcoming all of those things. And I start – this journey is really a lot about my love life more than anything I’ve ever done. I mean I was 16 to 19 writing the last album and this album I was 25. So that’s a really big difference in life.”

  • KEITH URBAN PROVED CRITICS WRONG; THEY JUST FUELED THE FIRE OF HIS “WILD HEART.”

Keith Urban heard a lot of negative comments when he was trying to get his break into the music community. All he ever wanted to do is play music for a living, probably since his dad gave him his first guitar at the age of six. Like the message in his new song, “Wild Hearts,” “sometimes you just gotta prove ’em wrong” when you’re following your dream.

“That second verse in the song talks about ‘has anyone ever told you you’ll never amount to anything and you’re just wasting your time chasing that tail of a dragon kind of dream.’  I had plenty of those people in my life that didn’t believe in me, thought I was wasting my time,” says Keith. “And I probably found that fuel for my fire even more than the people who believed in me. It was sort of the motivation for proving them wrong was great motivation.”

He recalls one older country artist in Australia making a condescending comment to him after he returned from writing songs in Nashville who ended up adding more fuel to the fire.

“One of my first trips to America when I was about 21, 22, I came to Nashville and wrote some songs, went back to Australia. And I was playing at a country music festival. I’ll never forget it,” he says. “And this older country artist said to me backstage,‘So, where you been?’ I said ‘Oh, I’ve been in Nashville writing songs.’ And I was like so excited and he looked at me and he said, ‘Yeah, yeah, you’ve got to get it out of your system, don’t ya?’ And I could have punched this guy square in the face. I was so angry at this comment, this kind of condescending, jaded thing that this guy said to me, and I’ve burned on that fuel for so many years. I think about that guy a lot and I’m grateful now that he gave me that fuel to burn on because it was a 180 degree turn from how I felt about my life and what I wanted to do in my life. So, that verse is kind of somewhat of a thank you to the people who say you can’t do it because they give me, people like me a lot of fuel.”

Keith recently posted a video on his socials at age 16 performing during a talent show Down Under, in which the panel of judges gave him some negative criticism. Using a cool editing technique, it appeared as if the early version of Keith was singing his new song, “Wild Hearts,” and flashing to present day with Keith performing in front of thousands of fans.

“Once we started going back and finding older videos from my childhood and stuff like that, it really started being emotional and special. And then once we started seeing all of the footage (director) that Michael Monaco had gotten while being on tour with me, and even that emotion of the backstage area where I won my first Entertainer of the Year was just worth its weight in gold. And so, as this thing came together, I got more and more emotionally invested and now I’m really just invested because I’m excited for the potential to help people heal through tragedy and being inspired through tragedy and the ups and downs in life. So many people deal with that and are going through that constantly so I hope that they can watch this and really feel, understand that there is a light on the other side.”

“We’re beyond excited to get back out on the road for so many reasons that I cannot even possibly describe. But I would say above all else, it’s just getting to actually play music in front of fans that appreciate and support what you do and they sing the songs back and to get that relationship back with the fans, I mean, everything we do from writing from these interviews to recording, it’s all so we can get out there and play for the fans. And just being able to do that, it’s reminding us of why we put all the work into what we do.”

“My performance at CMA Summer Jam is gonna be hopefully some songs people know and sing along to, and I will have a special guest Dwight Yoakam who’s gonna be joining me. We get to sing a couple of songs together, which I’m super excited about ’cause he just oozes coolness. It’s gonna be great. It’s gonna be fun. It’s gonna be hot, but we are ready for it.”

“You know, I’m just so honored to be on the CMA Summer Jam. I got lucky. I wrote a song with some buddies last year that was kind of a summery song that did pretty good for us. So, I’m gonna go out there and have fun and try to bring some ‘Beers and Sunshine’ to everybody.”

“Well, it’s just so great just to get a chance to perform with Miranda’s band. She’s got a great band, so it’s fun to get there, and I’m just so appreciative of the fact that she asked me to come help and sing a song. I’m gonna get up and do my song with her band, and then I get a chance to collaborate with her, Miranda, and Brothers Osborne. So, came up with an idea of doing ‘Midnight Rider.’ It’s a great song that has a spot for four harmonies or lead vocal and three harmonies. So, we get to sing together, which is my favorite part of music anyways, which is harmonies, so that’s really fun and just  see some friends and look out at this great crowd of diehard country music fans. It’s gonna be a special, special night.”

Audio / Eric Church is just looking forward to performing...anywhere.

Eric Church (CMA Summer Jam) OC: ..back out there. :42
“The place I’m most excited to perform is anywhere, because it’s been that long. I’ve tried to get like five-year-old birthday party gigs and anybody that would hire a guy with sunglasses to play. But I will play anywhere, and I think the band will play anywhere. I think it harkens back to, at least for us, it’s about the love of music. And I think COVID and coming out of COVID is I don’t think I took things for granted. I really don’t, because I really tried to soak in the moment and take in the moment. But if I did take anything for granted, I won’t do it again and we can’t wait to get back there.”

“I just try to go out there and give it my all every night and have fun and connect with the crowds and be loose and fun, but play songs that fans want to hear and play songs that put smiles on all the fans’ faces and it’s gonna be a great time out there.”

“I have been watching CMA and all of the amazing events that CMA puts on for a long time, and to finally be included in that is just really, really cool and special to me, and I’m just so excited to be able to be a part of it. I get to sing during Carrie Underwood’s set. Like, that is not anything that I pictured two years ago, and here I am and I’m just so grateful for that.”

  • CARRIE UNDERWOOD NOMINATED FOR TWO GOSPEL MUSIC ASSOCIATION DOVE AWARDS.

Carrie Underwood has been nominated for two Gospel Music Association Dove Awards for her critically-acclaimed album of gospel hymns, My Savior. The album is nominated for Bluegrass/Country/Roots Album of the Year and her duet with gospel superstar CeCe Winans, “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” is nominated for Inspirational Recorded Song of the Year.

My Savior was released this past March. The album debuted #1 on the Billboard Country chart, making it her ninth consecutive release to do so, extending her record as the only artist to accomplish that feat with all nine of her album releases from the beginning of her career. The album was brought to life with a virtual livestreamed event from the legendary Ryman Auditorium on Easter Sunday which raised over $112,000 for Save the Children. The My Savior: LIVE From The Ryman concert DVD and television special were released this month.

“It should be like a warm hug, and I feel like there’s so many people that are like me that kind of long for that,” Carrie has said about the album. “You think back to that sense of home and your church that you grew up in with the pews. I mean it’s just one of those things that it just feels like home. And after a year like last year, I feel like people are definitely searching. A lot of people were thrown out of their daily routines and trying to figure life out and be more introspective or kind of slow down. We were all forced to slow down.”

Underwood recently announced the upcoming release of her album My Gift (Special Edition) on CD/digital September 24th, and on vinyl November 5, featuring three additional tracks. Initially released September 25, 2020, Underwood’s first-ever Christmas album, My Gift, debuted #1 across multiple global charts, including Billboard’s Country, Christian and Holiday album charts.

The 52nd Annual GMA Dove Awards will be held live and in-person on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Lipscomb University’s Allen Arena in Nashville, and will be broadcast worldwide on Friday, October 22nd, 2021 through TBN.

“These particular songs for My Savior, you know, I grew up singing these in church and my church that we go to right now they play a lot of very contemporary Christian songs, praise and worship songs, and it’s great. But every once in a while, they’ll kind of throw in like a chorus or something of some hymn that I grew up with and there’s an immediate sense of home when I hear that. And that’s kind of where I was at when we were recording this. It should be like a warm hug, and I feel like there’s so many people that are like me that kind of long for that. You think back to that sense of home and your church that you grew up in with the pews. I mean it’s just one of those things that it just feels like home.
