  • JOSH TURNER’S GRANDMOTHER INFLUENCED HIS LOVE FOR COUNTRY AND GOSPEL MUSIC.

Josh Turner just released his first gospel collection, I Serve a Savior, and he says his grandmother’s record collection profoundly influenced him.

“She had a huge collection, and she had everything from Roy Acuff to Waylon Jennings to Johnny Cash to The Stanley Brothers, the Osborne Brothers, all kinds of southern gospel groups, Ernest Tubb,” says Josh. “She loved music and she loved gospel music, and she had one of those huge ginormous stereo console things in her house with a record player and 8-track machine and all that stuff. Every time I went to her house she had one of those records playing.”

In addition to the 12-track studio project, Turner has released a complementing 90-minute live performance DVD featuring a special interview of Turner with gospel legend Bill Gaither, a performance with Turner alongside his wife, Jennifer, their four sons, and more. • KEITH URBAN WRAPS HIS “GRAFFITI U WORLD TOUR” THIS WEEKEND.

Keith Urban wraps the U-S leg of his Graffiti U World Tour this week with shows in Little Rock on Thursday (November 1st), New Orleans on Friday (November 2nd) and Dallas on Saturday (November 3rd).

“It’s a conundrum because I wanna play what the audience wants to hear obviously, and there’s a mix of people in the audience. You’ve always got new people that have never seen us live and they’re hoping that you do ‘X’ song, whatever that might be. It could be ‘Kiss a Girl.It could be ‘Sweet Thing.’ It could be ‘You’ll Think of Me.’ It could be ‘Days Go By.’ There’s just so many songs, and then you’ve got people who’ve seen us hundreds and hundreds of times who are like, ‘Oh, please don’t do that song again. We’ve got to have heard that a million times. We wanna hear more of the new ones,’” says Keith. “So, it’s a beautiful challenge that I feel very blessed to have. And at the end of the day I’ll put together a setlist that feels energy and emotion and thematically and musically and every other way right from top to bottom, covering as much as we can without playing for four hours. It’s also part of the reason we didn’t take any other acts on the tour. We just took Kelsea and us. That gave us more time to play.”

Keith, who is making his way up the country charts with “Never Coming Down,” is nominated for several CMA Awards, including Entertainer, Male Vocalist and Album of the Year (for Graffiti U). The 52nd Annual CMA Awards, which will broadcast live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena November 14th at 8pm ET/PT on ABC.

  • TRAVIS DENNING PAYS HOMAGE TO THE ALLMAN BROTHERS.

Travis Denning feels he owes The Allman Brothers for his music career. He says he probably would’ve never picked up a guitar if it weren’t for this iconic band and their different influences.

“When I first started playing guitar, I loved classic rock. I loved AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, I mean those kinds of bands. The more I played guitar, you know the more and more I wanted to hear it faster and louder, so I got into Metallica and I got into Motorhead and Slayer,” says Travis. “I fell in love with singer-songwriters. I fell in love with John Mayer. I fell in love with Neil Young and Amos Lee. It’s so funny telling that story that people go, ‘Man. You’re all over the place with your music.’ I think the reason I was able to do that is because I always looked to the cornerstone of what I loved which was The Allman Brothers Band, and they did the same thing. They had jazz. They had blues. They had country music. They had folk. They had so much that they combined to create this genre called Southern Rock, which is still the fiber of my being.”

Travis will often break out into an Allman Brothers song, like “Whipping Post,” while in concert.

Travis, who is making his way up the country charts with “David Ashley Parker From Powder Springs,” is on the Hallelujah Nights Tour with LANCO.

The more I played guitar, you know the more and more I wanted to hear it faster and louder, so I got into Metallica and I got into Motorhead and Slayer. I mean, I have a lot of hard rock and heavy metal in my veins, and then that led to, I fell in love with singer-songwriters. I grew up 30 minutes away from where they lived, where they recorded. And I think there’s something to be said about coming from that same area and being a part of my life throughout my whole life.”

Luke Bryan wrapped his touring year on Friday night delivering his thirteenth stadium show of 2018 playing to a sold-out crowd in Detroit’s Ford Field. This was the third time Luke closed his touring year at the home of the Detroit Lions. The four-time Entertainer of the Year and American Idol judge performed for 1.5 million fans in 2018.

These shows were deemed the “What Makes You Country Tour XL Stadium Sized” and played for 30,000 to 50,000 thousand fans at each stadium stop often reaching crowds of more than 100,000 in a weekend with multiple back-to-back stadium dates and weekends.

When you’re playing a 15,000-seat amphitheater, everybody’s right in front of you. When I get done with a stadium, I feel like I ran a marathon. There’s no just getting up there and nonchalantly making a stadium show happen. You gotta work hard at it.”
