    “I’ve always been intrigued when a song is born in a writer room – there is a magic that happens there,” shared Church of the unique process that went into creating the triple album when first announcing the project. “I wanted to put that in the studio form. So, every day, we would write a song in the morning and we would record the song that night… The interesting thing about this process is that Jay kept asking me the last three or four days, ‘Are we done?’ and at that time I didn’t know what the project was. I kept saying ‘God, this is going to be really hard. There’s a lot here. Is this a double album? And if it’s a double album, how do we leave out these five or six songs?’ I am the hardest critic on making sure every song deserves to be on the record, and I beat this thing to death going ‘this can’t be that good.’ But it was just a special, special time and a special, special project that I think will be among our best.”

    Indeed, both the industry and critics agreed, with the relentless pace of songs first rolled out from the ambitious project in 2020 helping to propel him to that year’s CMA Entertainer of the Year title and the project going on to be named among 2021’s best by Rolling Stone, Billboard, Stereogum, Tennessean, Nashville SCENE, Taste of Country, The Boot, Sounds Like Nashville, Saving Country Music, Whiskey Riff and more.

    Eric Church spent last year releasing new music at a relentless pace; sharing the results of a marathon session during which he spent nearly a month writing and recording a song per day while sequestered in rural North Carolina – including his latest Gold-certified No. 1 “Hell of a View” and current Top 5-and-climbing single “Heart On Fire.” The resulting critically acclaimed and chart-topping three-part project, Heart & Soul, is available everywhere now.

    “Heart & Soul — I think that everybody wants to know why Heart & Soul and it’s interesting. I think for me, I didn’t go in there trying to make two albums or three albums. That is not what I tried to do; that is not what this was about. But I think it was about a moment, and what I found when I listened back to the project is there were a lot of songs that had heart in them or cars or guitars or music, and I think that’s because that’s what was on my mind at the time. And what I found that was interesting is there were two groups that they were this kind of song and then this kind of song that kind of grouped together. And then there was this middle five or six songs and I didn’t know where they went. They were cool. And then the thought was raised — do they belong together and that’s the first time that three albums came out. I would initially have said nah. I’m a cynic. I’m a music guy. If you tell me you made three albums, I say well you made one decent one. Just me. That’s not what this is. These are three different feels. These are three different things. They sound the same because they were made in the same moment, but they group up different. And yes, we could have done just Heart and Soul and there would have been six songs that didn’t make it anywhere. But I don’t think that’s right. I think that if you listen to them, they have their own thing. They belong in their own spot. And that’s what ended up at least conceptually with what Heart & Soul is.”

    Eric Church is celebrating the one-year anniversary of his three-record collection, Heart & Soul, this week. The project was a huge undertaking and he had no idea it would end up on three separate records.

    “I thought it was one album. I didn’t know if it would even happen. The great thing about this song, ‘Heart On Fire,’ is it was the first one we recorded, and if this one had not had worked, I don’t know that the project would’ve worked, because at the time, I had not convinced everybody that this was the thing to do,” says Eric. “My band was pretty skeptical, my producer was skeptical, the songwriters I had onsite were skeptical. What I found is everybody kind of committed the way I thought they would with we knew what we had to do, and we had a songwriter that knew, hey, we have to do this because we’re recording tonight, and we have to get this right and we have to figure this out. This can’t be bad. And you really had people that really just committed to it and the band and the producer, they committed to it, and then I was singing, I committed to it. And it just became four, five, six songs in, we knew we kinda had a special thing going.”

    Eric took his band, producer and songwriters out of the normal environments to write and record at a restaurant in the mountains of North Carolina, not knowing what the project would look or sound like, but knowing he wanted to shake things up a bit. What he found was a huge commitment to making it all work.

    “What I found is there’s something about doing something different that there’s a belief there,” he says. “Every night we would eat together. Every morning we would be together. And they respected the players, the songwriters. They all respected what I was trying to do. I was honest with them. I said, ‘Hey, I may bring in a song. This song may suck but I wrote it today so give me – I have not slept. Give me a break.’ So, I think at some point in time they committed themselves to what we were trying to do and they gave 110% of that. They knew this dude has been up all night. This dude is trying and we’re going to try, too. And I think that there’s something to that overall, pulling on the rope the same way that made it – made it what it is. Made the project what it is.”

    Church released the first of his three records, Heart, April 16th, 2021. He created the middle album of the trilogy, &, specifically for the Church Choir (his fan club), which was available exclusively to them only as a vinyl record and was released April 20th, 2021. The third installment, Soul, was released April 23rd.

    Eric is racing to the top of the country charts with his latest single, “Heart On Fire.”

    “I want to say Happy Anniversary to the Heart & Soul album. I can’t believe it’s been a year since it’s been out. It will always be, they will always be among my most favorite records to make because we wrote and recorded a song the same day. It was a challenge, it was hard as hell, but it was also the most in-the-moment, the most spiritual, the most connected I think I’ve been to a project, and it has been a joy to play those on the Gather Again Tour. It’s been a joy to watch them grow, it’s been a joy to throw in new songs here and there and watch people react to it. It’s just been a lot of fun. My favorite thing as an artist is to watch these grow over time. It’s happened every time in our career.”

    “We would always have the Easter Egg Hunt before church. You know, my mom, she would dress us in these ridiculous, pastel-colored, gosh, good Lord, I’m sorry for saying this, but the worst part about Easter for me is some of the photos I have of what my mom dressed us in. It was hideous! But yeah, that was it growing up. We would have our Easter Egg Hunt, and I think for me early on, and probably like a lot of kids, Easter was another Sunday where it was a very mini, mini Christmas. We’d get some candy, every once in a while, we’d get a present, something that we wanted, we’d go to church, and everybody looked great. It was like the day to wear the new dress or the guys had these crazy ties on or something like that. And it really wasn’t until, I think, I was able to kinda hit my high school years and kind of start to strengthen my faith that I realized how special that holiday was.”

    TAE: “Easters growing up for the Dye fam, my side, is  when I was younger, we’d go to my grandparents a lot and we’d do the whole Easter egg hunt and we’d go to church. My parents would always dress us up in these really cute springy outfits. But, yeah, Easter with family is always so much fun.” MADDIE: “Our Easter was very similar. My grandma would always get us this white chocolate cross with little flowers on it. It was so delicious. And me and my sister typically had matching dresses, which annoyed me at the time, but looking back it was precious. But Easter for us, Tae and I love us some Jesus! That is our favorite dude ever!     Chris Stapleton picked up four nominations for this year’s Billboard Music Awards, including Top Country Artist, Top Country Male Artist, Top Country Tour and Top Country Song (“You Should Probably Leave”). Carrie Underwood also has four nominations, including Top Country Female Artist, Top Christian Artist, Top Christian Album (My Savior) and Top Country Song (“If I Didn’t Love You”). Luke Bryan has two with Top Country Tour and Top Country Song for “Buy Dirt,” which is also a nomination for Jordan Davis. Eric Church picked up a nomination for Top Country Tour. The BBMAs will broadcast live coast-to-coast from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 15th at 8pm ET/5 pm PT on NBC and will stream live on Peacock.

     

    Priscilla Block, who is performing at tonight’s (April 11th) CMT Music Awards, is set to open the 2022 Downtown @ Sundown Concert Series in Clarksville, Tennessee on May 6th. The Concert Series is free to the public and will take place on the first and third Fridays of the month May through October.

    University of South Carolina alum Darius Rucker will perform a free concert for students to celebrate the women’s basketball team’s national championship. Darius suggested the concert in a tweet April 1st after South Carolina beat Louisville for a spot in the championship game. The Gamecocks went on to defeat UConn 64-49 to take their second national title in five years. Students can sign up for a lottery here to win a ticket to the concert, which will be held April 24th at Colonial Life Arena.

    After first breaking the news to his Church Choir faithful last night, CMA Entertainer of the Year/superstar Eric Church now officially announces his second headlining stadium show this summer, with “One Hell of a Night in Minneapolis” set for Saturday, June 11 at U.S. Bank Stadium. The supersized show will see the 10-time GRAMMY nominee joined by fellow songwriting craftsmen Morgan Wallen and ERNEST.

    Today’s announcement adds to an already remarkable year for the man celebrated by Stereogum as “one of the biggest touring musicians on earth,” as rock-infused anthem “Heart On Fire” climbs the Top 10 at country radio and The Gather Again Tour holds the top spot on Pollstar’s Live75 chart for back-to-back weeks, with Variety proclaiming: “For a guy whose concerts time out at three hours a night, the pandemic’s break was but a way to rest up and blast off, ferociously.”

    The update follows Church’s recent news that he will also headline a Milwaukee stadium show over Memorial Day weekend, with Brothers Osborne and Parker McCollum joining him at American Family Field on Saturday, May 28.

    “Church is never predictable — aside from the fact that he consistently stages one of the most explosive (and longest) sets in country music,” the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel remarked upon that show’s announcement. “For the second stadium-headlining show of his life, expect Church to give his fans his all.”

    Tickets to the U.S. Bank Stadium show go on sale to the general public Friday, March 11 at 10 a.m. CT via EricChurch.com. Members of the Church Choir will have early access to tickets beginning Friday, March 4. Tickets to the American Family Field show and remaining dates of The Gather Again Tour are on sale now.

    The 57th Academy of Country Music Awards take place next Monday (March 7th) and several of your favorite country artists are preparing to take center stage.

    Chris Stapleton earned nods in the categories for Entertainer of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Single of the Year (“You Should Probably Leave”) – nominated as artist + producer and Video of the Year for “I Bet You Think About Me” with Taylor Swift.

    Carrie Underwood is nominated for four awards this year, including Entertainer of the Year, Single of the Year (“If I Didn’t Love You”), Video of the Year (“If I Didn’t Love You”) and Music Event of the Year (“If I Didn’t Love You”). She is a 45-time nominee and 15-time winner, including three Entertainer of the Year Awards (the only female artist in history to win this award three times).

    Jordan Davis is nominated for Single of the Year (“Buy Dirt”), Song of the Year (“Buy Dirt”) – nominated as artist + songwriter, Music Event of the Year (“Buy Dirt”), along with Luke Bryan.

    Reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year Luke Bryan is up for three nominations with Jordan Davis for Single of the Year (“Buy Dirt”), Song of the Year (“Buy Dirt”) and Music Event of the Year (“Buy Dirt”).

    Eric Church is nominated for Entertainer of the Year, while the members of Little Big Town are up for Group of the Year.

    The reigning CMA Duo of the Year Brothers Osborne, as well as Maddie & Tae are up for Duo of the Year.

    Parker McCollum is up for New Male Artist of the Year, while Priscilla Block is nominated for New Female Artist of the Year.

    The two-hour show, featuring more than 20 performances, will stream live without commercial interruption and is hosted by icon Dolly Parton and co-hosted by reigning ACM New Female Artist of the Year Gabby Barrett and reigning ACM New Male Artist of the Year Jimmie Allen.

    The 57th Annual ACM Awards will be streamed live from Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium March 7th at 8pm ET/7pm CT on Amazon Prime.

    “I think, for me, every night I try to empty the tank. There’s always that energy floating around.  It’s a palpable thing. It’s up to me to start that exchange and get the crowd to give it back to me and then watch it build on itself, and just to have that experience. I mean, we have one night here in whatever city we are in, whether it’s Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Monday. We got this night, I’m not going to see you for a while and you’re not going to see me for a while, you know? And I love being able to capitalize on that moment and trying to live in that moment and get as much energy exchanged between myself and the crowd as we can. I love that! That’s my favorite part of what we do.     Priscilla Block has released the official music video for her new single, “My Bar,” from her debut album, Welcome To The Block Party.

     

    Taylor Swift, who is making her way up the country charts with “I Bet You Think About Me” with Chris Stapleton, joins forces for a beautifully reimagined version of Ed Sheeran’s “The Joker And The Queen.”  Sharing a friendship that spans well over a decade, today marks Ed and Taylor’s fourth official collaboration to date, following “Everything Has Changed” (2012), “End Game” (2017) and “Run (Taylor’s Version)” (2021).

    The accompanying Emil Nava-directed official video brims with nostalgia as continues the storyline from the iconic “Everything Has Changed” video – Taylor and Ed’s previous collaboration, released in 2012. Ten years on, the video – featuring the original actors – captures the coming-of-age story of the now 18-year-olds, Ava and Jack, as they head to college and embark on new adventures.

     

    Eric Churchhas been announced as a headliner for the Faster Horses Festival later this year, along with Tim McGraw and Morgan Wallen. The three-day concert event, taking place in Brooklyn, Michigan July 22nd – 24th, will also feature performances from Brothers Osborne, Jordan Davis, Lauren Alaina, Ashley McBryde, Cole Swindell, Jake Owen, Chris Janson, Michael Ray and many others.
