      George Strait (1st No. 1) OC: …incredible feeling. :34
“It was pretty incredible, because I just felt fortunate to get a record contract. I’d been trying to do that for quite a few years. I went to Nashville and I cut ‘Unwound’ and they signed me on that record, which gave me a chance to do an album when ‘Unwound,’ I think went to five or six on the charts, so they let me do an album. I felt real fortunate just to be able to do that, and to have one go No. 1 was an incredible feeling.”

  • GEORGE STRAIT ADDS SHOWS IN WICHITA AND KANSAS CITY FOR 2020; RELEASES NEW VIDEO FOR “EVERY LITTLE HONKY TONK BAR.”

George Strait may have retired from traditional touring, however it hasn’t stopped him from playing to sold-out crowds in Las Vegas at T-Mobile Arena or revisiting select cities to take music from his new album Honky Tonk Time Machine to the fans for one-off exclusive shows. Strait heads to the heartland in 2020 with performances at INTRUST Bank Arena on Friday, January 24th for Visit Wichita Presents Strait to Oz and in Kansas City for Strait to the Heartland at Sprint Center on Saturday, January 25th. Tickets for both shows go on sale Friday, May 17th.

Both prior performances at INTRUST Bank Arena in April 2014 and Sprint Center in January 2014 were part of Strait’s final two-year tour, The Cowboy Rides Away Tour. The sold-out concerts respectively held single event attendance records for nearly five years.

Showing no signs of slowing on the new music front either, Strait recently released Honky Tonk Time Machine on MCA Nashville March 29th, debuting as his record-extending 27th No. 1 Billboard Country album. Comprised of 12 original titles plus Strait’s version of the Johnny Paycheck classic “Old Violin,” Honky Tonk Time Machine marks an incredible 30th career studio album for Strait.

Strait, who produced the album alongside Chuck Ainlay, wrote eight of the 13 tracks including “Sing One with Willie” featuring Willie Nelson that the pair happily debuted at a recent Nashville show marking the first time the two country icons have ever shared the stage.

Honky Tonk Time Machine’s lead single, “Every Little Honky Tonk Bar,” is currently Top 20-and-climbing with the music video for the single available now.

The Country Music Hall of Famer recently played his 21st and 22nd sold-out shows at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The “Strait to Vegas” series began with six shows in 2016 and extended with 10 more in 2017. In 2018, Strait headlined Bayou Country Superfest to a sold-out Mercedes-Benz Superdome crowd in New Orleans, Louisiana, two nights in Tulsa, Oklahoma and one night in Austin, Texas. This year, fans can catch Strait at Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio on June 8; at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. on Aug. 17; at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas on Nov. 22 and 23; and four additional “Strait to Vegas” shows at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Aug. 23 and 24, and Dec. 6 and 7. • GEORGE STRAIT GETS FEEDBACK FROM FANS ABOUT “THE WEIGHT OF THE BADGE.”

George Strait is feeling “The Weight of the Badge” as fans and members of law enforcement give the superstar feedback on the song that has affected them.

“It’s gonna be a long one another graveyard shift
As he says goodbye to his wife and kids
He spends his life just like his dad’s
Driving away under the weight of the badge

He’s seen it all in his fifteen years
Watching our backs, facing our fears
Lord knows it ain’t no easy task
Keeping us safe under the weight of the badge

He swore that oath to protect and serve
Pours his heart and soul into both those words
Lays his life on the line
The line he walks is razor fine
    Tempered strength is always tough
    But he ain’t gonna buckle
Under the weight of the badge”

He wrote the song with his son, Bubba, and frequent collaborator Dean Dillon, after an encounter with an officer and his grandson Harvey during the ceremony honoring him with the Texan of the Year Award.

“I get a lot of feedback from ‘[The] Weight of the Badge’ from people. I’ve gotten mail, I’ve seen, you know someone was doing a documentary, I think it was, and it was actually called ‘Weight of the Badge,’ which was really coincidental, but I got a note from the folks saying that after seeing the lyrics, reading the lyrics of the song it related so much to the documentary that they were doing,” says George. “But I get all kinds of feedback. I actually heard from the officer that I was talking to because when Harvey was playing with his badge, and I picked it up, I said ‘Weight of the Badge.’ I said, ‘I’m gonna write that,’ I told him and he remembered it, so that was pretty cool.”

George is closing in on the Top 15 with his latest song, “Every Little Honky Tonk Bar.” Catch him live when he performs at Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio on June 8th.

  • GEORGE STRAIT BRINGS HIS CODIGO TO ALL 50 STATES.

George Strait didn’t just write and record a song called “Código,” he’s also one of the investors in the company producing Código 1530 tequila. He didn’t mean to get into the liquor business, but when he was playing golf down in Mexico with a couple of friends, one brought a bottle of it to the course, where they sipped it. George said it was the best tequila he has ever tasted.

“The tequila itself, we started thinking about doing something – or at least I did – probably 10 years ago when I first tasted it down in Mexico,” recalls George. “My friend Feddy and Ron, those two guys that are involved in Código now. We were all out playing golf and Feddy brought this tequila out, well, it didn’t even have a name. Nobody had ever tried it. He said, ‘You guys gotta try this. It’s the best tequila that there is.’ So, we did, and then we started taking bottles home that weren’t marked or anything, and we were going, ‘How are we gonna get this into the States?’ ‘Cause I would get some of my friends to try it, and they loved it and we just thought it would be a great thing to have it in the States.”

He adds, “None of us were really looking to try to get in to a new business, honestly. I do what I do. Feddy was a very successful real estate guy in Cabo, and Ron was formerly the CEO, the guy at Crocs. And so, we just decided we wanted to do it, and here we are two-and-a-half years into the deal and we’re in all 50 states. So, I think that’s pretty good. It’s doing really well.”

George is making his way up the country charts with his latest song, “Every Little Honky Tonk Bar,” from his Billboard No. 1 album, Honky Tonk Time Machine.

You can catch George performing at Ohio Stadium in Columbus (Ohio) June 8th and Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass August 17th. For more information, visit www.GeorgeStrait.com.

Early in George Strait’s career, he played every little honky tonk bar in Texas you could think of, and the Broken Spoke which is featured on the cover of his new album, Honky Tonk Time Machine, was one he played quite often. Whereas now he has fans standing in front of the stage and standing in their seats to watch him perform, if you didn’t have the crowd dancing in a honky tonk, you weren’t doing your job.

“All of those honky tonks have a really, really great feel to ‘em. I mean, they’re very intimate,” says George. “Of course, in those days, the crowds weren’t standing at the front of the stage. They were dancing. That was what it was all about. If they weren’t dancing, you probably weren’t doing too good.”

While he played several of the honky tonks, George does have a few favorites. “If I had to pick three of the best honky tonks that I ever worked in those days, I think it would be Gruene (pr. Green) Hall, Cheatham Street Warehouse and Broken Spoke.”

King George just released his 30th studio album, Honky Tonk Time Machine, last week, and he is currently making his way up the country charts with his latest song, “Every Little Honky Tonk Bar.”

  • GEORGE STRAIT KNOWS “THE WEIGHT OF THE BADGE.”

George Strait pays tribute to police officers with “The Weight of the Badge,” a song from his new album, Honky Tonk Time Machine. He wrote the song with his son, Bubba, and frequent collaborator Dean Dillon, after an encounter with an officer during the ceremony honoring him with the Texan of the Year Award.

“Last year, me and Bubba, Tamara and Harvey, everybody Norma, and even Jilliann, I think were there, and I had security, I had an officer who was talking to Harvey and letting him play with his badge and hold it and pinning it on his shirt. And I just got to thinking about that because it really wasn’t that heavy until you put it on it and then it means, it really gets heavy,” says George. “So, that was one of those things I thought was a real important message especially these days and times.”

In addition to his new album containing such an impactful song as “The Weight of the Badge,” the collection also features his Top 20 smash, “Every Little Honky Tonk Bar.”

George will perform at Ohio Stadium in Columbus on June 8th, followed by a show at Gillette Stadium on August 17th. Tickets are now on sale.

George Strait (The Weight of the Badge) 1 OC: …it turned out. :45

“‘The Weight of the Badge, the idea for that song came about when I got the Texan of the Year award about a year ago, I guess, last year, me and Bubba, Tamara and Harvey, everybody Norma, and even Jilliann, I think were there, and I had security you know I had an officer who was talking to Harvey and letting him play with his badge and hold it and pinning it on his shirt. And I just got to thinking about that because it really wasn’t that heavy until you put it on it and then it means, it really gets heavy. So, that was one of those things I thought was a real important message especially these days and times. I love the way it turned out.”
