• LAUREN ALAINA REVEALS THE PRETTY AND NOT SO PRETTY PARTS OF HER LIFE.

Lauren Alaina is set to release her new album, Road Less Traveled, on Friday (January 27th), and it’s a project that is very personal to her. She basically wrote about her life over the past several years.

“This time has been a real defining time for me. Five years is a long time from 16, 17-ish to 22, and I went through a lot,” says the Rossville, Georgia native. “My parents went through a divorce; my dad is an alcoholic and he went through rehab. I had vocal cord surgery. I was writing a second album. I changed management. Everything in my life changed. I mean, there wasn’t a single thing, besides my boyfriend, that stayed the same…And it was the best thing that ever happened to me and this music, because it pushed me to grow as a person, it pushed me to grow as a songwriter, as an artist. I had to grow up, and I’m really thankful for that, and I think the music showcases that growth.”

“I just feel like all of those things that happened to me made me really decide to be honest and really dig in to what I wanted to say to my audience, because I came off my favorite TV show and I got a record deal and I started touring and I put an album out, and I never sat and thought, ‘What do I want to say to these people? What’s important to me and what do I want to say to them,’” she adds. “And the last five years that’s all I thought about was, ‘Who am I, and what do I want to say to people?’ And that’s what this album is. It’s every part of me – the pretty and not so pretty parts.”

Lauren co-wrote all 12 songs on the album, which was produced by the award-winning busbee (Keith Urban, Maren Morris, Lady Antebellum). The collection features her Top 15 single, Road Less Traveled.

Audio / Lauren Alaina says the time between albums helped define who she is and what she wants to say.

  • LAUREN ALAINA TAKES THE ‘ROAD LESS TRAVELED’ TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM.

There’s just a few weeks left before Lauren Alaina releases her new album, Road Less Traveled, and she couldn’t be more thrilled.

“I have felt just about every feeling you could feel about this album,” says an exuberant Lauren. “There were moments where I never thought it would come out. There were moments where I thought I could not write another song, and there were moments where it was all I was living for. I mean, like, that’s all I thought about. I woke up every morning obsessing over it, and to have a long time between the albums is really rare. Five years is a long time to not have an album out. So, to have new music out and a date and a definite time it’s gonna come out, I’m just, I could not be more excited.”

She says even though this is her second album (her debut album, Wildflower, was released in 2011), she feels the collection is basically launching her into the world. “I have put every part of me into this album. I have had a crazy few years emotionally and I wrote about all of that, and I really feel like this album is introducing me.”

Road Less Traveled, featuring her Top 20 hit of the same title, will be available January 27th.

Audio / Lauren Alaina explains the emotions she’s been dealing with during the time between her two albums.

  • CHRISTMAS 2016: Lauren Alaina

Lauren Alaina released her own version of the holiday classic, “O Holy Night,” last month. She loves Christmas music so much she’d like to release a full album of holiday songs. She has a few favorite songs that she’d have to include on the collection. “I have a few favorites. It’s like a fast favorite actually. Surprisingly is ‘Oh Santa’ by Mariah Carey. I jam to that, girl. I mean I am crazy about that song,” says Lauren. “And I also like ‘O Holy Night,’ like when I just want to really sing and kind of get in the Christmas spirit. It was my grandmother’s favorite, one of her favorites. My grandmother loved Christmas.”

When it comes to her favorite holiday movies, she can’t pinpoint just one. “Oh gosh! I have so many favorite Christmas movies, but I usually like the funny ones like The Grinch and Elf,” declares Lauren. “I don’t know. I like all of it. It’s so hard to pick. I love Christmas.”

As for her favorite Christmas gift as a child, Lauren goes back to the time Santa Claus brought her a Barbie bicycle, and she felt like she was in charge. “My favorite Christmas memory is when I got my Barbie bike when I was six years old, and I thought I ruled the world because it had a horn and it had Barbie’s picture on it.”

Lauren is currently making her way up the country charts with her hit song, “Road Less Traveled.”

Lauren Alaina (O Holy Night) OC: …loves it. :35
“I really think ‘O Holy Night’ is one of the most  beautifully written songs I’ve ever heard, Christmas or not Christmas. The melodies and the lyrics and everything the song represents, it’s gorgeous, and I’m so thankful that  I was able to do a version of this song. I’ve always wanted to record it and to do kind of my own spin on it, and to sing a song that really represents what Christmas is all about and that’s Jesus and love and happiness, and I hope everyone loves it.”

    Lauren Alaina (RLT-turning point) OC: …of a diet. 1:05
“It was difficult for me to get better. The eating disorder thing was not an easy thing to overcome, because I knew if I quit I was gonna gain weight, and that was my biggest fear. I was practically killing myself. I mean, you have to eat. You have to have nutrients to live. I mean, my hair was falling out. I was balding. My fingernails wouldn’t grow. I think I finally got so sick, that I realized, and they told me if I didn’t quit, it was affecting my voice. So, I started was losing my, that was my one thing that made me feel like I had a purpose was my voice, my music, my songwriting, and when it started affecting, I kinda thought, ‘Okay, I’ve got to do something,’ but it didn’t make it easy. I mean, it took me before I was really better in that process, a couple of years. I started trying to get better around 17, almost 18, and I didn’t really get it figured out until I was probably 19 or 20. And I still struggle with it, but I had to completely let go of a diet.”
