  • GEORGE STRAIT RELEASES LIVE FROM AT&T STADIUM. (AUDIO)

George Strait hits stores with The Cowboy Rides Away: Live from AT&T Stadium Tuesday (September 16th). The show, which also featured special guests Eric Church, Alan Jackson, Vince Gill, Jason Aldean, Ray Benson, Kenny Chesney, Sheryl Crow, Faith Hill, Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride and Asleep at the Wheel’s Ray Benson, was performed in front of nearly 105,000 folks.

Eric Church not only performed in Dallas for the final show, but he opened up for King George a few times during the tour, and the Country Music Hall of Famer was very impressed with how he held the crowd in his hands. “Eric Church is just a great artist. He’s a great songwriter. He’s a really great performer and great songwriter. He’s got the total package,” says George. “When we did our shows together during the tour he came out and well he said I’m just going to do – I’m not going to bring my band. I’m just going to do a set just me and my guitar. And I’m going well alright. If that what he wants to do that’s fine. That’s going to be a little difficult I think to pull off because you’ve got 20,000 people there and you’re doing an hour or whatever it was he was going to do just him and his guitar. And not too many people could pull that off but he did. He pulled it off and the crowd loved it.”

However, all doesn’t seem bright and rosy between the two. The Country Music Hall of Famer is taking issue with how Eric and his wife, Catherine, bonded with his dog Jammer, and he’s not giving up the details.

“I really got to know him when we worked together and we spent some time together on the bus after those two nights. We had some drinks together, and his wife and he got involved with my dog and that’s another story,” he laughs. “We won’t go into that, but my dog is safe now. I have him home, and he’s doing alright, but he’s had to see some people, but anyway. (laughs)”

The Cowboy Rides Away: Live from AT&T Stadium features such hits as “Check Yes or No,” “The Love Bug,” “Cowboys Like Us,” “Marina Del Ray,” “Here for a Good Time,” “Murder on Music Row,” “The Chair,” “Give It All We Got Tonight” and “Ocean Front Property.”

George Strait (Eric Church) OC: …good one. 1:36
“Well, Eric Church is just a great artist. He’s a great songwriter. He’s a really great performer and great songwriter. He’s got the total package. When we did our shows together during the tour he came out and well he said I’m just going to do – I’m not going to bring my band. He pulled it off and the crowd loved it. And so I didn’t know Eric very well until, I don’t know, maybe – I had heard his music for sure but I really got to know him when we worked together and we spent some time together on the bus after those two nights. We had some drinks together, and his wife and he got involved with my dog and that’s another story. (laughs) We won’t go into that, but my dog is safe now. I have him home, and he’s doing alright, but he’s had to see some people, but anyway. (laughs) So anyway, again, he’s a great artist and when he agreed to do the Dallas show, so just check that off, another good one.”

AUDIO: Darius Rucker talks about recording a Christmas album in the middle of summer.

Darius Rucker (Christmas album) OC: …in December. :34
“We wrote this great song — me, Frank Rogers and Monty Powell wrote this song called ‘What God Wants for Christmas,’ and that instantly got me in the mood. I mean, it was one of those things that after we wrote it, I thought, ‘That’s Christmas to me’ — I wonder ‘What God Wants for Christmas.’  So, once you put the headphones on…like the other day, I was doing ‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside’ with Sheryl Crow — we did that together — and it was so easy to get in the Christmas spirit, because you start hearing those songs, the music, and you’re in December.”

AUDIO: George Strait says he was a big nervous when tickets went on sale for his final show in Dallas.

George Strait (Dallas show) 1 OC: …it that way. 1:07
“You don’t know how these things are going to turn out. You put tickets on sale and you hope for the best and you see what happens. Man, when I got that call how many tickets we sold the first day I’m going like, ‘Wow, this is so cool. What great fans I have.’ And it was a heck of a night. And I said it on stage, I’ve been thinking about this show ever since we announced the Cowboy Rides Away Tour, and I really had for two years. It was just it was always on my mind it was going to end right there. And so the closer it got the more nervous I got about it and the more things we had to do to prepare for it, getting all these great artists to participate and song lists and rehearsals and figuring out how we were going to do it, the structure of the show. We went through so many different scenarios of how it could be. Finally just go like, ‘Well, we can just do it like we’ve been doing it on tour. They just come up and do their songs and we’ll work it that way.’”

AUDIO: George Strait says he could really feel the love from the fans during the final show of his Cowboy Rides Away Tour in Dallas.

George Strait (Dallas show) 3 OC: …at this place. 1:23
“When I’m standing in the wings there and Ray Benson is reading this big introduction, I’m nervous as a cat because when the show started it was light in there. It was broad daylight and you could see everybody. (laughs) And when you walk out in front of 104,000 people, that’s scary. (laughs) But I mean once I got on stage all that went away, and I could just feel the energy and the support and the love from the fans. It was just unbelievable. And there’s just no way to totally describe the feeling that you have when you walk out there in front of a crowd that big. Not many people get to experience it. (laughs) I’m very lucky that I did, and it was so much fun, and then at the end it was sad. I almost lost it a couple of times but I didn’t want to do that and I managed not too, but it still was very sad to know that – and I did this a lot, during the two years I would walk out there and as I left the stage I’m going I may never be back here doing this again ever at this place.”
