“What we’ve done the past several years is because it’s so hard to go home, we would have what we call the Misfit Thanksgiving dinner, and all the people in Nashville who aren’t able to go home to their families, we would just invite them over to our house and have a big potluck style Thanksgiving dinner. We’ll take like a couple of tables and throw them together and throw some sheets on it just to make it look nice. It’s a very redneck display of like tableware, because all the plates don’t match and the forks and knives don’t match, but we don’t care. People will bring wine, and at the end of the day, we’ll probably have 12-15 people all sitting at dinner together that weren’t able to go home with their families, and just enjoy it with friends. It’s been really fun. Definitely a lot less stress than going home.”

For him to win New Artist, Album and Male Vocalist, it just seemed right with his album, Traveller, that came out this year. And he’s just so good and humble and just mind-blowingly great. I was somehow on the third row in front of Chris Stapleton and Justin Timberlake, and I was like at church. I think the whole room just felt the magic of something changing in country music.”

“Miranda [Lambert] got up on stage [after] winning CMA Female Vocalist of the Year with a Chris Stapleton T-shirt on bedazzled out – I need to find one of those – dear Lord. And she was like, ‘Justin Timberlake, Chris Stapleton, I’m going home to practice.’ And you know what? That’s exciting for us musicians. It’s exciting for us to go, ‘Let’s raise the bar, let’s raise the bar, let’s raise the bar,’ and just have a fun, an amazing time, because we’re doing this because we love music, and I’m glad it happened with my buddy, Chris Stapleton. I get a little emotional when someone you’re a huge fan of gets a shout-out like that, because he’s been writing songs and singing songs for empty rooms and half-filled rooms. And he’s never even had a Top 20 as a singer on the radio, yet, he won Male Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year and New Artist of the Year. That’s awesome. That’s great music, and I’m glad that people are speaking up about it.”
