• GEORGE STRAIT WILL MAKE HISTORY WITH HIS NEXT CHAPTER IN VEGAS.

With a North American record-setting final tour stop sell-out at AT&T Stadium on his The Cowboy Rides Away Tour, 104,793 fans helped multiple ACM and CMA Entertainer of the Year George Strait bring one chapter of his inimitable touring career to a close, but the book is far from over for the iconic artist who continues to rank among country music’s most-streamed artists, logging more than four billion audio streams and counting as of this week.

In 2015, Strait revealed he would perform a series of exclusive worldwide engagements at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas that commenced last April and continue through 2017, including his most recent sold-out dates with Kacey Musgraves. The two Texans closed the Strait To Vegas shows by playing for a capacity crowd of more than 33,000 people between Feb. 17 and 18.

During the closing weekend, Musgraves sat down with Strait to ask him fan-submitted questions via Facebook Live, where he shared things like his bucket list item of fishing in Cuba and his first memory of playing in Las Vegas. But the primary question on every fan’s mind was: “What is the future of his live concerts?”

Strait answered their question: the reputable country star revealed that his exclusive performances in Las Vegas will continue — with a twist. Strait has announced that he will shake things up with an unprecedented two nights of No. 1’s beginning with his April 7-8 shows. With an unmatched 60 singles hitting the top of the charts during the span of his career and more than 283,000 fans streaming Strait’s “60 #1 Hits” playlist on Spotify every month, the King of Country wanted to share these radio hits plus several fan-favorites such as “Amarillo By Morning” and “Troubadour” that, surprisingly to many, never reached No. 1. During Strait’s upcoming 2 Nights of Number 1’s, he will play 30 No. 1 hits Friday, April 7 and 30 No. 1 hits Saturday, April 8, in addition to those “can’t miss” classics.

“I think some fans would throw something at me if I didn’t play those,” Strait noted with his signature grin. “We’re going to try this out in April and change it up for those shows, then see how it goes. It’s important to me to hear what the fans think and take it from there.”

Strait elaborated,”We’re going to be rehearsing, I would say 25 songs that we haven’t played in years, so this should be fun!”

Speaking of hits, his Strait Out of the Box: Part 2 is available now. The impressive three-disc, 56-track collection features 36 hit singles – including 26 No. 1’s – plus two new songs co-written by Strait, along with 18 choice album cuts. Strait Out of the Box: Part 2 spans 20 years of Strait’s career from 1996 to 2016 and follows the highly successful, 8x Platinum-selling 1995 release, Strait Out of the Box.

George Strait (Vegas 60 No. 1s) OC: …each night. 1:12
“Well, the Vegas thing that I’ve been doing has been really something that we kind of fell into. It wasn’t planned out when I ended the touring thing back three years ago. I always wanted to do some one-offs, and I wasn’t sure exactly how I was going to do it, how many I was going to do, when or where, any of that. So, when this Vegas thing came along, well, it just kind of fit what I wanted to do perfectly. What my plans are is to do two nights of number-one songs, since I’ve got 60. Obviously, I can’t do 60 in one night or I may never sing again. [laughs] But I’ll try to do 30. I’ll do 30 one night, and I’ll do 30 the next night.  As I’m thinking about the 60 songs and the 30 songs that I’m going to do, I’m thinking well I’ve got a lot of songs that I have to do on each show that maybe weren’t number ones, like ‘Amarillo By Morning’ wasn’t a number-one song. I can’t not do ‘Amarillo,’ and there’s songs like that that I will still have to do. So, it’s probably going to be a pretty long show each night.”

With a North American record-setting final tour stop sell-out at AT&T Stadium on his The Cowboy Rides Away Tour, 104,793 fans helped multiple ACM and CMA Entertainer of the Year George Strait bring one chapter of his inimitable touring career to a close, but the book is far from over.

  • GEORGE STRAIT AND JAMEY JOHNSON GOT TOGETHER TO WRITE A ‘COUNTRY’ SONG.

George Strait just released his new box set, Strait Out of the Box: Part 2, last Friday (November 18th), and one of the new songs garnering a lot of attention is “Kicked Outta Country,” which he co-wrote with Jamey Johnson after a conversation they had one night.

George says he’s been very fortunate and certainly very blessed to have the career he has right now. “It’s just something that happens at some point in everyone’s career. It doesn’t mean I have to like it, but ‘cause I always expected it was gonna come at some point. It’s a little hard to take after all these years to release something at radio, and it doesn’t get played anymore because for so long I just kinda got used to hearing things on the radio,” says George. “Anyway, the song’s kinda about that. I’ve been very fortunate, don’t get me wrong. I’ve had a lot of longevity in this business, and I’m very grateful for it. I’ve got a lot of great fans out there who still support me. They come out to my shows in Vegas and it’s a great night. It’s great seeing ‘em, and I’m very blessed.”

King George, who began his career before his 1981 hit “Unwound” hit the airwaves, says he still loves making music and will continue to do so as long as his fans want it.

The Country Music Hall of Famer and entertainer is definitely one of the hippest guys around. For example, George and Jamey weren’t in the same room, hell, probably not even the same state when they wrote the song. They did it by texting lyrics back and forth. “We wrote it all with texting,” says George. “We wrote the whole song texting. [laughs] Well, I mean people do it all the time now. It’s so common. I see Bubba Skyping and writing with somebody somewhere and it’s just so easy to do. Yeah, I just started scribbling stuff down and I’d send it, he’d send something back, I’d send something back and that’s the way it happened.”

I just wrote a new song today
I pulled out my old guitar, and I started to play
Pressing my fingers into the strings
I felt the feeling a country song brings

I did some Jones, and one for The Hag
Waylon and Willie, and the great Johnny Cash
They all got kicked outta country back then
But then one day country came calling again

    Cash stomped out the footlights
    Haggard, he had a ball
And Willie and Waylon, they stole the nation
And Jones showed up after all

The other new song on Strait Out of the Box Part Two is “Gotta Go Through Hell,” which George co-wrote with his son, Bubba, and iconic tunesmith Dean Dillon.

Strait Out of the Box Part Two, which also features his current single “Goin’, Goin’, Gone,” is available now exclusively through Walmart.

Audio / George Strait talks about the song, "Kicked Outta Country," which appears on his new Strait Out of the Box Part Two collection.

  • GEORGE STRAIT INCLUDES A PAIR OF NEW SONGS ON HIS NEW BOX SET.

George Strait just released his newbox set, Strait Out of the Box: Part 2 on Friday (November 18th), and it features a couple of new songs, including “Gotta Go Through Hell,” which he co-wrote with his son, Bubba, and celebrated tunesmith Dean Dillon. After listening to the song on which the legendary session guitarist Brent Mason played on, George said it kind of reminded him of the theme song from the HBO show, True Blood.

“I haven’t watched it in a long time, but when it was new I watched it a lot. So I heard that, I’m like hmmm, that sounds like something I remember,” says George. “And then I mentioned it. I don’t know if Brent played that on. He could have. It could be Brent. But he’s an amazing guitar player and the guitar part – well, all of his guitar parts are amazing. He plays on a lot of my sessions and most everything that I do.”

Strait  Out of the Box Part Two is a three-disc, 56-track collection, featuring 36 hit singles including 26 No. 1s, plus two brand new songs, his latest radio single “Goin’ Goin’ Gone” and 18 choice album cuts.

NOTE: “Bad Things” was written and recorded by Jace Everett, who was signed to Epic Records in Nashville in 2005.

Audio / George Strait says the song “Gotta Go Through Hell” from his new box set reminds him of “Bad Things,” the theme song from the TV show, True Blood, which is now on Netflix.

“Well, I told Brent Mason that it reminded me of the song that it’s the start of True Blood that I think it’s a Netflix show or something that I got into watching. I haven’t watched it in a long time, but when it was new I watched it a lot. So I heard that, I’m like hmmm, that sounds like something I remember. And then I mentioned it. He plays on a lot of my sessions and most everything that I do.”

  • GEORGE STRAIT RELEASES HIS NEW STRAIT OUT OF THE BOX PART TWO COLLECTION.

George Strait is releasing his new box set, Strait Out of the Box: Part 2, exclusively with Walmart on Friday (November 18th). This impressive three-disc, 56-track collection features 36 hit singles including 26 No. 1s, plus two brand new songs, his latest radio single “Goin’ Goin’ Gone” and 18 choice album cuts, all personally selected by the King of Country Music.

“So, I’ve got this new project coming out, Strait Out of the Box Part 2, and there’s 56 songs on it. Twenty-six of them are number-one records, and the rest are songs that I picked that might have got passed over but that I felt like were strong enough to probably be released if we would have done it,” says George. “So, hopefully, if somebody buys this Strait Out of the Box Part 2, they’ll hear some of those songs that maybe they’ve never heard before.”

Strait Out of the Box: Part 2 spans 20 years of Strait’s career from 1996 to 2016, following the highly successful, 8x Platinum-selling 1995 release, Strait Out of the Box. Strait is one of the most celebrated country music stars in history and Billboard recently named him No. 1 on the Greatest of All Time: Country Artists list. With 60 No. 1 singles and more than 70 million records sold, Strait has more No. 1 songs than any other artist and is third only to Elvis Presley and The Beatles with the most Gold and Platinum albums in history.

George says he’s looking forward to releasing a third box set at some point because he still has something to say.

“I do feel like I still have something to say. I feel like I have a lot of songs in me to write. I have a lot of ideas that I want to get out there for people to hear. I still feel relevant in this business. I feel like I can still sing as good as I ever could,” says Strait. “And my band is great. I love playing with them. Every night we’re out there. And so I don’t see – I can’t just see me not being a part of this. I want to get my records out there.”

Strait Out of the Box: Part 2 is available for only at Walmart.com.

George Strait (Strait Out of the Box Part 2) OC: …Heaven. :49
“So, I’ve got this new project coming out, Strait Out of the Box Part 2, and there’s 56 songs on it. Twenty-six of them are number-one records, and the rest are songs that I picked that might have got passed over but that I felt like were strong enough to probably be released if we would have done it. So, hopefully, if somebody buys this Strait Out of the Box Part 2, they’ll hear some of those songs that maybe they’ve never heard before. When we were putting this together, I went in the studio and I cut a couple of new songs for it, so they’ll be on it as well. I wrote one with Jamey Johnson called ‘Kicked Outta Country,’ and then I wrote another one with my son and Dean Dillon called ‘Gotta Go Through Hell to Get To Heaven.’”

Audio / George Strait says it’s unbelievable that he’s releasing a second box set.

George Strait (Strait Out of the Box Part 2) 2 OC: …be good. [laughs] :22
“It’s hard for me to believe that I’m releasing another box set. This is Strait Out of the Box Part 2 and it’s been 20 years. And so now I’m looking forward to Strait Out of the Box Part 3, which I’ll be talking like this but it should be good.” [laughs]

Audio / George Strait says he will continue making records because he still has something to say and lots of songs in him to write.

George Strait (still has something to say) OC: …make them. [laughs] :44
“Well, I do feel like I still have something to say. I feel like I have a lot of songs in me to write. I have a lot of ideas that I want to get out there for people to hear. I still feel relevant in this business. I feel like I can still sing as good as I ever could. And my band is great. I love playing with them. Every night we’re out there. And so I don’t see – I can’t just see me not being a part of this. I want to get my records out there. If they play them that’s great. I’d love for them to play them. I know my fans would like to hear them. But if not that’s just it is what it is, but I’m still going to play them and I’m still going to make them.”

George Strait (Vegas #1 shows) OC: …each night. :38
“What my plans are is to do two nights of number one songs. Since I’ve got 60, obviously I can’t do 60 in one night or I may never sing again. [laughs] But I’ll try to do 30. I’ll do 30 one night and I’ll do 30 the next night.  So…and as I’m thinking about the 60 songs and the 30 songs that I’m going to do, I’m thinking, well, I’ve got a lot of songs that I have to do on each show that maybe weren’t number ones, like ‘Amarillo By Morning’ wasn’t a number one song. I can’t not do ‘Amarillo’ and there’s songs like that that I will still have to do.  So, it’s probably going to be a pretty long show each night.”
